Firewind - Live Premonition (Century Media Records) - Back
After five studio albums this is the first live DVD release from the Greek Power Metal band Firewind. With a more stable line-up for the past two albums Allegiance and Premonition, “Live Premonition” has twenty-two tracks including two solos and one part drummer solo You can tell that effort was put in this release. The menus are punchy and the new graphics are greater than you'd think the band had budget for. As for the concert itself... a great selection of songs which showcases the band at their best. Beware; the 'Dreamchaser' track is just a drum solo with a small 'Dreamchaser' snippet at the end, rather than the whole track. I just wished they played the whole song because its one my personal favorites of the band. I was also pleased to see all their albums were covered during this recording, filmed at the Principal Club Theater in Thessaloniki, Greece on January 12th 2008. As well as a great Guitar solo from Gus G, Drummer Mark Cross and Keyboardist Bob Katsionis also have their turn with respective impressive solos.

The overall presentation is great and it sounds fantastic and very powerful. The title track from their latest album "Allegiance" kicks off and is a great starter just bursting with energy. One track that sounds sensational live is the instrumental 'The Fire and the Fury', one other of my favorites from the band which is found on the album Burning Earth. Vocalist Apollo Papathanasio gives a superb performance here, in fact the whole band were really on fire this night. Whether you watch and listen to 'Into The Fire', 'My Loneliness' or 'The Fire And The Fury', it's quality all over. What makes a great live DVD for me is not only how the band performs or what songs are played but also how the concert was filmed and presented the concert is professionally filmed and also the sound quality is great, I am really pleased that the band has mixed the DVD in stereo as opposed to the surround sound which contributes to a big extent to your viewing and listening pleasure the way the DVD is put together makes me feel that I am actually watching the band in concert!

The band has also taken the pain to include in the extras all their videos from 'The Premonition' and 'Allegiance' as well as put together a tour diary and include two unplugged tracks and three live tracks captured and filmed in Montreal Canada 2008 plus filmed on MAD TV. . The DVD also comes with 2-audio discs, which feature the 'Live Premonition' show in full for you to blast in your cars and on your stereo's. What you have here is One DVD and two CDs full of great metal- what more could the Firewind enthusiasts or just metal fans want! This is a DVD which will please the hardcore fans as well as first timers' guitarist and founder Gus G and his band mates have delivered a mighty live performance. This year I was more than impressed with Firewind's The Premonition and the 'Live Premonition' DVD has left me wanting even more from this amazing band! We can only hope now that Firewind will plan an Australian tour!
