  • SIX FEET UNDER AND CATASTROPHIC (FEATURING EX-OBITUARY GUITARIST TREVOR PERES) ADDED TO NOVEMBER TO DISMEMBER LINE UP

November to Dismember, the Texas metal festival set to take place in San Antonio at the Live Oak Civic Center on Friday and Saturday, November 5 and 6.

Just announced yesterday that Metal Blade recording artist's SIX FEET UNDER will be joing the already stupendous bill in San Antonio at this year's first annual November to Dismember. Also announced on the bill will be CATASTROPHIC, the new band from Ex-Obituary Guitarist Trevor Peres.

  • Lauded death metal band NILE has begun pre-production work on the follow-up to the acclaimed 'Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka' album. Guitarist Karl Sanders elaborates, "The direction of the band has not moved one inch. The material for the new album continues to explore the juxtaposition between extreme metal and Middle Eastern sounds, and we are committed to expanding the brutality and exotic tones that were on 'Nephren-Ka...'"

Several songs have already been completed. Titles include "The Black Flame," "Multitude Of Foes," "Masturbating The War God," "Defiling The Gates Of Ishtar," and "Onward To Kadesh."

"The Black Flame" and "Masturbating The War God" were debuted along the band's recently-completed 18-month 'Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka' World Tour. An extensive European tour report by Karl himself can be read in the forthcoming issue of Metal Maniacs, due on newsstands in early October.

The as-yet-untitled full-length is scheduled for a spring 2000 release through Relapse Records. Metal Maniacs

  • ABSU recently sent us this latest correspondence from Cythraul, Texas. Apply if equipped on all fronts...

"Globe-commanding mythological occult metal act Absu is seeking a permanent (or session member for touring purposes only) lead guitarist/vocalist to appropriately complete their occultic dynasty. [We are] painstakingly looking for an immortal, esoteric spirit with a tyrannical sentiment; a professional musician-magician is what [we] must obtain, that is, to banefully conquer this sphere!

Some of the Cythraul Klan's requirements:
    *Medieval/Barbaric/Soothsaying image is a MUST.
*If you grasp an "attitude" or an attitude problem, you will most likely associate, "click" with them.
*Must have played (lead) guitar for least 6-8 years and think you're the absolute BEST executioner of euphony eternally. [We're] looking for a King/Hanneman/Petrozza/Fripp/Colin-Tocquaine/Schuldiner/LaRocque-style guitarist, but faster and far more advanced than these ascendancies. Music theory and aural skills a plus.
*Drug addicts are not a problem with ABSU. Sometimes mortal manufactured toxins are aesthetically creative within the metaphysical mind of a musician-magician.
*Must own professional equipment and gear; no DOD "Death Metal" distortion pedals or Peavey amplifications please.
*Must be able to tour extensively from May to December, 2000: no ifs, ands, or buts.

If you're this mighty, please contact ABSU's manager, Roberta Evans, for the interview. Thank you and keep burning the ancient flame!

  • Look for a release from the extreme supergroup LOCK UP on Nuclear Blast this winter – LOCK UP features Shane Embury (Napalm Death), Jesse Pintado (Napalm Death), Nick Barker (Cradle of Filth) & Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy) and is expected to be reminiscent of Terrorizer and old Napalm Death. • An ANTHRAX b-sides album is in the works called ‘Return Of The Killer B’s’ – Joey Belladonna will be recording some tracks and will join the band to record some songs live – the band recently recorded a cover of ‘Ball of Confusion’ with both Belladonna and John Bush on vocals – apparently ANTHRAX is toying with the idea of touring with both Bush and Belladonna. • HAMMERFALL recently released a home video called ‘The First Crusade’ – Anders Johansson (Yngwie Malmsteen) has been named as the new drummer – the new single “I Want Out” entered the German Singles Chart at #75. Metal Update

  • On Saturday night in Cleveland, OH, the Coal Chamber, Machine Head, SLIPKNOT, and Amen tour arrived. My friend Matt and I went around the show during Amen's very impressive set.  We went over by the gate were bands can come out and walk around in the crowd and we stumbled upon a few members of SLIPKNOT.

We talked with the band for a little while, and we found out that the group MUSHROOMHEAD had problems with SLIPKNOT. Something on the lines of copying there scene in Cleveland, where MUSHROOMHEAD is from. SLIPKNOT was also informed to watch out, because a group of irate MUSHROOMHEAD fans were gonna be at the show, to shoot sharp objects at SLIPKNOT.

Later, when SLIPKNOT takes the stage, it took no time for the objects to fly out of the crowd. It seemed to be a group of about 20 people on the MUSHROOMHEAD side that were throwing objects. After the second song was over on of the guitarist came down from the stage and proceeded to swing at someone in the crowd. The show went on, with out any other conflicts during SLIPKNOT's set, but the objects continued to fly.

After SLIPKNOT was off stage I went back to check to see if everyone was alright. Everyone was, but they were pissed. SLIPKNOT went out to take care of business with the help of a few members from AMEN. A few scuffles occurred. Joey, the drummer from SLIPKNOT, even though he maybe the smallest band member, he had the most rage in him that night. It took 3 guys to restrain him.

After the incident, I believe most stuff was settled, and about 10 people were thrown out of the show. I wish SLIPKNOT the best of luck on the rest of the tour, because they deserve it!

  • I was informed on Friday night by Jason Avery of Monstrosity, and I was told that DEICIDE will be hitting the studios to record their new album in November.

  • In Birmingham UK, the birthplace BLACK SABBATH, will host the final reunion shows on December 21 and 22 – the Sabs will be supported by System of a Down, Godsmack and Drain STH. Metal Update
