  • Premier Screening of STEVE VAI’S New Concert Film Announced

Red Carpet at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood on September 15th

This Event Will Benefit Hollywood Arts

HOLLYWOOD, CA – Grammy-award winning guitarist Steve Vai announces a premier screening of his concert film STEVE VAI LIVE IN MINNEAPOLIS: WHERE THE WILD THINGS at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood on September 15th. Attendees will have the rare opportunity to view the concert film in its entirety and also listen to Vai and his band members discuss the making of the film, as well as the behind-the-scenes details of the tour.

The screening will be open to the public and proceeds from the event will benefit Hollywood Arts, an arts academy that provides creative and commercial art instruction to homeless and at-risk youth. Vai has been a member of the board of directors for Hollywood arts since 2007.

“I’m thrilled to be sponsoring this event in support of such a vital organization as Hollywood Arts”, explains Vai. “I have personally seen how this institute has mended broken spirits and changed the quality of people’s lives while cultivating them to become valuable contributors in building a healthier society.”

Music celebrities from all walks are donating items for a silent auction that will be held at the Egyptian on the night of the screening. There will also be an eBay and live auction to help raise funds and awareness for Hollywood Arts. Visit http://favorednations.com/auction/index_3.htm to view some auction items.

2010 will mark Vai's 30 year touring anniversary. Vai first stepped into the spotlight in 1980 as a guitarist in Frank Zappa's band but his indelible contribution to music came during his solo career, which includes combined sales of nearly six million albums. WHERE THE WILD THINGSARE was filmed in Minneapolis during Vai's sold out Sound Theories tour which spanned several continents. The film is scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-ray Sept. 29th. A live audio CD that contains select performances from the DVD will also be released on Sept. 29th. A preview of the film may be seen at www.vai.com/wildthings.

  • GNAW THEIR TONGUES; New Material Devours With Increased Appetite

Picking up where 2008's An Epiphanic Vomiting Of Blood left off, GNAW THEIR TONGUES is back with nine new tracks of fearsome blackened orchestral chaos and abstract horror that still sounds like little else out there.

On All The Dread Magnificence Of Perversity, we're feeling an even heavier bass-assault compared to the other releases, and this is easily the heaviest GNAW THEIR TONGUES release yet. This monstrous, noxious bottom-end roar that skulks and slithers throughout the album suggests a foul fusion of Abruptum and Leonard Rosenman's most nightmarish film scores, piled in towering heaps of sadistic noise, warped orchestral strings, degraded samples, shrieking voices, and punishing lurching doom draped in suffocating atmosphere. Hyper-abstract black metal sound-collage? Wagnerian avant-doom psychosis? You can try, but GNAW THEIR TONGUES remain ultimately impossible to pin to any one genre.

This album plunges even deeper into a black pit of total cinematic horror, sexual perversion, and shapeless chasms, deeper into dementia than you previously thought music could take you.

Samples of this heinous, auditory expulsion can be unleashed at this location: http://www.crucialblast.net/gtt_dread.html.

All The Dread Magnificence Of Perversity track listing:

    1. My Orifices Await Ravaging
    2. Verbrannt Und Verflucht
    3. Broken Fingers Point Upwards In Vain
    4. The Stench Of Dead Horses On My Breath And The Vile Of Existence On My Hands
    5. L'ange Qui Annonce La Fin Du Temps
    6. Gazing At Me Through Tears Of Urine
    7. Rife With Deep Teeth Marks
    8. All The Dread Magnificence Of Perversity
    9. The Gnostic Ritual Consumption Of Semen As Embodiment Of Wounds Teared In The Soul

All The Dread Magnificence Of Perversity will be released on September 8th on Crucial Blast. Promo copies are available now worldwide via Earsplit. Interviews with the act are always available.

  • Misguided Aggression Release Video For “Our Kingdom Come”

Misguided Aggression have released their video for the song "Our Kingdom Come" online at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKWB3DY1NMY. The video was directed by Black Fawn Films’ Chad Archibald (Arise and Ruin, Farewell To Freeway) in Kitchener, Ontario.

“When we were tossing around ideas for a video, Chad and Black Fawn came up with this idea to stage an underground Fight Club that we thought was brilliant,” says Misguided Aggression guitarist Ben Dobson. “It was a long day; we shot about six hours of fight footage and then we had to shoot the performance aspects afterwards. Overall it felt like the equivliant of playing a show for like ten hours straight and was completely draining. In the end it was worth it because the video turned out fantastic and I’m sure fans are going to love it.”

"Our Kingdom Come" is the lead single from Misguided Aggression's debut album "Hatchala", which was recently released by Year of the Sun Records. The album was recorded at Icehouse Studios by producer Thomas Ireland and mixes bone crushing brutality with head-banging grooves to create the soundtrack to a drunken bar brawl between Lamb of God and Meshuggah. Sputnik Music hailed the album as, "One of the neatest records of extreme metal from an upcoming band I've heard in quite a while." The group is currently streaming tracks online at www.MySpace.com/MisguidedAggression

Misguided Aggression recently announced they are selling a full digital download of their entire debut album for $1.99 at www.MisguidedAggression.com. The download includes the album cover and DRM-free MP3s that will allow customers to play their music on virtually any device.

  • WHITE MICE Infest The Earth With Fourth Album

Rodent obsessed, toilet-humored, ill-tongued masked wackos. Weed-fueled, grinding sludge, noise-damaged, broken oscillator junkyard trio. Demented cheese lovers with a beef against God. Yeah the WHITE MICE from Providence, Rhode Island are all those things and more. Too fucked up and noise fixated for the average metalhead, too stoned, sleazy and salacious for the hipster and punk set, the WHITE MICE have for years existed on the fringes of every underground scene and belonged to none of em.

After condemning the Earth with 3 albums and a deluge of other releases on labels like Load Records and Blossoming Noise, WHITE MICE are now set to defile the world once more in collaboration with 20 Buck Spin. Their 4th LP, Ganjahovahdose, is the crowning drool in the band's discography, with the heaviest, noisiest, ugliest, most beautiful sound they've achieved yet, thanks in part to the massive mixing job of one Ken “HiWatt” Marshall (Skinny Puppy).

Musically speaking one might hear traces of Melvins, Brainbombs, Buzzoven, and their Providence brethren Landed, Drop Dead and Lightning Bolt, yet they stand easily apart from any proper comparison, remaining a beast of their own making. The band's live show is devastatingly loud, crude and visually incredible live show leaves mouths agape and the uninitiated properly converted, every time.

A cursory Youtube search will reveal the sinister aesthetic the WHITE MICE inhabit. Further mission plans include lo-fi video productions of their strange, peculiar world view in the near future. A completely unhealthy compulsion to alter page after page of obscure religious texts and images with their own PUNishingly scatological mockery of all things pure permeates the perverse Dadaist artwork contained within the album’s pages.

The totality of the WHITE MICE vision on Ganjahovahdose stands as a testament in praise of lord Cheezus for bestowing this deadly “conncocktion” of music, art, visuals, noise and words onto on an unsuspecting and dangerously unprepared public, on its October 20, 2009 release.

    Ganjahovahdose tracklist:
    1. PasssTheFissst
    2. Ganjahovahdose
    3. The Hard On Of Edam
    4. Placenta The Crotchtower
    5. Peeeugenicyst

  • EMPEROR To Be Included On Brutal Legend Video Game

Norway’s EMPEROR have been added to the impressive list of artists set to be featured on Electronic Arts forthcoming Brutal Legend video game. The action-adventure game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 features Jack Black as the game’s lead character with additional game players featuring the voices of Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Ozzy Osbourne, Lita Ford and actor/celebrity Tim Curry.

Brutal Legend creative director Tim Schafer, used his own music experience as inspiration for the game. It is the second game from Schafer’s San Francisco-based Double Fine Productions, a company he launched in 2000 after leaving LucasArts. Electronic Arts’ web-based biography of the game notes it “features the character of Eddie Riggs, a roadie, who is accidentally transported to a fantasy world inspired by the artwork of heavy metal album covers. Eddie becomes the world’s savior leading the down-trodden humans against a range of supernatural overlords using a battle axe, his Flying V guitar infused with magical powers and a customizable hot rod.”

The game follows the recent release of Live Inferno, a special series of recordings (2cd, dvd, deluxe box, limited 7-inch) captured during EMPEROR’s 2006/2007 reunion performances. Professionally tracked and featuring stunning packaging, the series celebrates the Norwegian black metal band’s sold out performances at Norway’s popular Inferno Fest and Germany’s Wacken Open Air Festival.

Forming in 1991, EMPEROR recordings have sold hundreds of thousands worldwide. Their impact on black/extreme metal ranks them as one of the genre's most influential. Respected by musician, fan and critic alike, Emperor recorded their final album, Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire & Demise, in 2001. Guitarist Samoth and drummer Trym continued together in Zyklon; their third and latest album, Disintegrate, released in 2006. Vocalist/guitarist Ihsahn went on to work with the now defuct band project Peccatum. He produced/recorded the debut from Hardingrock (featuring musical contributions from partner Heidi S. Tveitan from Starofash and famed Norwegian fiddler Knut Buen). He is currently finishing work on his third solo album planned for release in early 2010.

Additional artists confirmed for inclusion on Brutal Legend include Anthrax, Anvil, Black Sabbath, Carcass, Dimmu Borgir, Enslaved, Judas Priest, King Diamond, Mastodon, Megadeth, Ministry, Motley Crue, Motorhead, Ozzy Osborne, Rotting Christ, Skeletonwitch, Slayer, and Testament.

  • AUGURY FRONTMAN: “I’M A BIG FAN OF DALER MEHNDI.”

MetalUnderground.com recently posted an interview with AUGURY’s lead vocalist Patrick Loisel:

Tell me about the name of the band. Does it have a direct connection to the lyrics?

Patrick: Of course augury is a way to see the future from signs in nature. The wind, the storms, the sight of a bird, whatever. The main meaning most recently comes to use from a book I read on the Salem witch trial. What I read is that anybody who did something unusual could land in jail. The name of the charge was the “felony of augury.” Meaning forbidden knowledge, which is kind of the central meaning behind the lyrics. Back at that time if somebody knew about medicinal plants it was like “Oh she’s a witch, kill her.”

Outside of Augury what bands are you getting into lately?

Patrick: Myself I don’t listen to a lot of music. I’m the kind of guy who likes to do a lot of precise work so I like silence a lot. When I listen to music I’m really into bands like Akercocke. Emperor, Strapping Young Lad, a lot of Norwegian black metal. A lot of Arabic and Indian pop music too, the kind of stuff you hear in Indian restaurants. If I could I’d eat Indian food like 21 meals a week.

I’m not sure whether it’s Indian or not but have you heard that “Tunak Tunak Tun” song?

Patrick: I love that song. I sing along with that one. I learned the lyrics and I love to sing along. I even translated the lyrics. He’s only two years older than me, that guy. I’m a big fan of Daler Mehndi. The background music is really ugly but the basic melody of the vocals is great. “Tunak” is far from being his best song, but it’s the only song where he harmonized four lines of vocals. He did it live and recorded that tune in like half an hour. Try to sing his vocal lines, he’s one of the best vocalists on Earth. Type in Daler Mehndi on YouTube. He’s like the Indian Gwen Stefani. There’s another guy - he’s like a Yngwie Malmsteen with a turban. I’ve met a lot of third world metal musicians. One of my dreams is to play all of the places described in the movie “Global Metal.” Except maybe Iraq, I don’t want to get gunned down.

Read the entire interview and Patrick’s answer to the question “What’s the deal with Quebec being a part of Canada but not wanting to be a part of Canada?” here:

  • ANDREW W.K. TAKES HIS SOFTER SIDE - AND THE CALDER QUARTET - ON TOUR
Tour Dates Announced From Coast to Coast

New York, NY –-- Andrew W.K., bloody-nose rocker turned motivational speaker and TV personality performs on solo piano with the Calder Quartet, a contemporary classical ensemble described as, “quite possibly the finest - and definitely the most adventurous - American chamber ensemble” (Bloomberg News). Stimulating all parts of your brain, A.W.K. and Calder Quartet have teamed up to perform a collaborative show, mixing reverence with irreverence, and offering their audience a chance for both rapt listening and raucous dancing. Challenging music lovers to explore their comfort zones, A.W.K. and Calder Quartet perform together towards a liberated and impassioned definition of art. Their collaboration began at the acclaimed Wordless Music Series in New York City, where they received favorable coverage and critical response, including write ups in both the NY Times and LA Times. A.W.K. and Calder Quartet had original works commissioned by The Explorers Club, premiered at the Club's renowned annual dinner in New York City. Perhaps Metal Edge Magazine best described their recent work together when they wrote: "It was strange as hell and it pretty much ruled.
    "
"The Calder Quartet's performance with Andrew W.K. for the Wordless Music series in November of 2008 was, without a doubt, one of the all-time highlights of the series' concerts to date. From the Calder's selections of music for string quartet and electronics by Philip Glass and Christine Southworth, to Andrew's improvisations on themes of Bach, to the final closing numbers from the Andrew W.K. songbook (with certain raucous audience members joining the band onstage), it was a night I will not soon forget and hope to be able to repeat soon." -Ronen Givony, Wordless Music Series Producer

Andrew W.K.’s piano performances during this tour will be inspired by his new solo piano album, "55 Cadillac" (releasing on September 8th 2009).

  • Wodensthrone - Loss CD Now Available!!

Over 1 year has passed since England's Heathen sons, Wodensthrone, returned triumphant from finishing the recording sessions that would become "Loss". After many obstacles, the wait is finally over and England can once again breathe in the pulse of ancient times through brilliantly sculpted music.

"Loss" is a completely stunning display of epic, world building Pagan black metal, burning with the fires of England's ancient culture and antiquity. Brilliantly captured in Romania by Negura Music, the recording sessions reveal an otherworldly tone and rich atmosphere that hasn't been this majestically sculpted since the formative years of Emperor. "Loss" is a total escape from the modern complexities and uninspired cookie-cutter "product" turned out by the current black metal scene, to embrace the true power of a time that was alive with conviction and musical exploration. Traditional/folk instrumentation, soaring guitar/synth harmonies, and tortured vocals ride upon the dense aura so brilliantly created by Wodensthrone.

With stunning artwork and design provided by Moga from Kogaion Art http://www.myspace.com/kogaion_art , Loss features an impressive 16 page booklet.

    "Loss" Track listing:

  • Austrian Death Machine to release “Double Brutal” this fall!

The heaviest metal band in the world (by sheer mass) has finished their follow up to Total Brutal - get ready for Double Brutal! Not satisfied with the limitations offered by putting out a single disc album, Ahhnold demanded two full cds full of muscle pumping metal! When asked why they needed two discs and why he thought that was best, he quickly replied, “Two discs made it heavy and brutal enough to crush our enemies, see them driven before us, and to hear the lamentations of their women!!!”

Double Brutal is packed with more “juice” than a professional athlete. Disc one features soon to be classics See You At The Party Richter, and Let Off Some Steam Bennett. Disc two is crammed full of metal covers, complete with Ahhnold’s take on them, including Metallica’s Trapped Under Ice and Killing Is My Business…and Business Is Good by none other than Megadeth.

Austrian Death Machine guitarist, bassist, drummer and vocalist, Tim Lambesis adds: “Most bands sit around in a rehearsal room for a few years to put out a 10 song album and do a tour supporting that release. I've been a busy touring with As I Lay Dying and traveled everywhere this year besides Antarctica, but in the five minutes that I was home between tours I decided to put together a double disc of Ahhnold inspired brutality called Double Brutal. Also, Ed Repka (the legend behind the artwork for Megadeth) did an amazing job on this album cover.”

    Double Brutal track listing:

  • EarsplitPR Welcomes EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT

EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT: Grinding brutality, in its own unique form, shredding the minds of all alike from the close-minded, and feeble, to the strongest of free thinkers...

California technical death/grind four-piece EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT formed in early 2003 from the ashes of Ye Old Skabbard with founding members Lauren Pike (guitar/vocals) and Luke Boutiette (drums). After eight months of writing they agreed to recruit Ciribus members Johnny Helvete (vocals) and Austin Spence (bass). In November/December 2003 they entered Trident Studios and recorded the brutally acclaimed five-song EP Beheaded By Volition. Recorded/engineered by then Vile vocalist Juan Urteaga, the EP helped the band secure a deal with Spain-based label Grotesque Music. Beheaded By Volition received immediate media attention in worldwide publications and was followed by three west coast tours and various festival appearances including The Northwest Death Fest, Gathering Of The Sick Fest and the L.A. Murder Fest.

By February 2005, the band parted ways with Helvete and had Spence take on an additional role as vocalist. The new lineup proved more volatile than ever before and EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT continued to brutalize the masses with their vicious display of auditory violence. The band completed their debut full-length, Fear of Reality Exceeds Fantasy, in 2007. Recorded/engineered by Decrepit Birth guitarist/vocalist Matt Sotelo and mastered by Vile guitarist Colin Davis, the 10-song offering was quickly signed and released in February of 2008 via Deepsend Records. EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT received further praise by such esteemed metal publications as Terrorizer, Metal Maniacs, Metal Hammer and Pit. "Eschewing, though appreciating, the arpeggio swept and technically mind boggled style of an Origin or a Decrepit Birth, the approach taken is largely riff based and organic, though still angular and calamitous. Initial spins can overwhelm because of the punishing sounds," said Metal Maniacs. "EMBRYONIC's high energy musical assault is interspersed with eclectic, progressive-style interludes. Austin Spence barks out an intensely gruesome vocal style that fits well within these heinous sounding musical earscapes," added Pit.

The release also received major in store distribution. Suddenly the CD was readily available in high profile stores like Rasputin, Amoeba and Best Buy as well as hundreds of others including online digital outlets. Fear of Reality Exceeds Fantasy sold out twice and continues to possess new listeners with its unyielding and multifaceted brutality.

The band decided to add an additional guitar player (Adam Weber) to the fold before embarking on a 24-day US tour with Insidious Decrepancy and another 23 days around the US with Lecherous Nocturne earlier this year. The tours and video for "Human Harvest" were a huge success and helped the band create a deeply carved niche within the underground metal scene. View the video here.

Also remember, this footage is totally official, so you can share it in whatever fashion you like. We recomend getting it showed in dirty, mingy theatres. Nothing excites us more than the idea of desperate old men jacking off to our attractive, Scandinavian bodies. Really.

Two controversial but great festivals in Kiev (Ukraine) with SODOM and ARCHENEMY and in Poland (Hunterfest) with MOTÖRHEAD and TARJA TURUNEN are already behind us. Now we fly to southern Italy to take a part on Agglutination Festival and then on to Summer Breeze in Germany. There will be - of course – a bunch of classic ‘hits’ as well. Premiere in September. See you around ... soon!!!”

  • HALFORD Guitarist “Metal” Mike Chlasciak Launches METAL HEROES MUSIC ACADEMY

C.M.M. Entertainment, LLC and “Metal” Mike Chlasciak are pleased to announce the launch of Metal Heroes Music Academy – world’s first heavy metal institution providing workshops, extended sessions and summer camps for metal players at all levels.

“Its always been on my mind – a heavy metal establishment where players can meet, discuss, take classes and learn metal riffs from each other. A real brick and mortar place where you can get better and jam with other people that have the same interests as you. I kept thinking how cool would it be to have something like that, something you can call your own and have all this stuff happening. It’s all about the timing and scheduling, commitment and so forth. It just feels right to make this happen today. The truth is that you can have great time while you get the info that you want if you surround yourself in an environment that supports your interests. I think we are in for some good times and well, a whole lot of metal”, explains Metal Mike.

Metal Heroes allows players to pick a workshop or a music camp that interests them and fits their current playing ability. Easy as that.

Metal Heroes Music Academy is conveniently located at New Jersey’s Premiere Recording and Rehearsal Complex: AArius Studios, 4420 Bordentown Ave #4, Sayreville, NJ.

These are the legends that keep the underground alive. It was an honor to work alongside Goreaphobia and Dreaming Dead as well. • Cattle Decapitation announce upcoming tour with Soulfly, Prong; departure of bassist Troy Oftedal

An update from Cattle Decapitation front man, Travis Ryan: “It is time to announce a few things that have been going on in the Cattle Decapitation camp. First off, we have officially parted ways with bassist Troy Oftedal due to musical and personal differences. There is no bad blood and we wish him the best of luck. Filling in on upcoming tours will be our friend Rahsaan Davis. You may have seen him on our recent tour as Troy left tour early due to a physical ailment.”

Cattle Decapitation has been keeping busy throughout 2009 supporting what has been unanimously declared by press and fans as their best record, The Harvest Floor. This fall will be no exception. San Diego’s finest death/grind torch bearers have just confirmed an October tour with legendary metal acts, Soulfly and Prong.

Travis Ryan comments, “We’ll be hitting the road in late September with Soulfly, Prong and Mutiny Within for a US tour! Starting in our neck of the woods, the tour will lead us across the country, along the east coast and back home. We have a handful of dates already and there are more on the way! We here at Cattle Decapitation are all about diversity. So when we were asked to do the Soulfly/Prong tour we said "why not!?" I for one am very excited to see Prong. I've never seen them live and when I was in 7th and 8th grade they were one of my favorite bands! True, a very interesting lineup, but that's awesome as our last couple albums have proved we definitely like to switch things up to keep things interesting.”

Keep your eyes peeled for the second video from the album. The band has completed filming for A Body Farm. Fans can check out their previous video for Regret And The Grave HERE.

“This record is one of - if not THE - proudest piece of work in my career. For such a complex album, things came together nearly perfectly.” producer Billy Anderson (Melvins, Mr. Bungle, Neurosis, High on Fire, Eyehategod)

“Lyrically and musically, The Harvest Floor is an impressive work of art…there’s a sophistication to every aspect of this album that wasn’t present on earlier efforts.” Alternative Press Magazine

“…their music technical enough to cream the pants of those so inclined but steering clear of the monotony trap too many bands are falling into recently.” 9/10, Outburn Magazine

“This isn’t just some angry metal band, these are musicians and artists out to create something genuine or die trying.” CraveOnline.com

“More than simply pushing forward the wall of extreme metal, this is an album that challenges music itself, as well as the shallow way in which humanity views its place in the universe.” Blabbermouth.net

“Cattle Decapitation have the sort of skills that put them squarely at the head of grind’s noisy pack.” MetalSucks.net
