September 11th, 2008	POISONBLACK post new song “Hatelove” @ Myspace; second part of studio report online! Sensational Finnish goth metal masters POISONBLACK featuring former Sentenced-vocalist Ville Laihiala are back with a vengeance! Still, make no mistake! Musically the band strived for a dirtier and more rocking sound than before. Hence, special credits go out to Aksu Hanttu (Entwine), who mixed the album at Grooveland Studio in Lahti, for understanding what sonic texture POISONBLACK were looking for. The single “Bear The Cross” will only be released in Finland on August 13, 2008. It doesn’t only feature two brand-new album songs, but also an exclusive semi-acoustic live track the band performed on Oulu’s Radio Mega. “Bear The Cross” is likely to continue the success of POISONBLACK’s last single “Rush”, which entered the Finnish single charts on #5. We were all living and recording in the same house and it has been such an awesome experience for us. When we made the last record we spent over a month in New Jersey at a Motel 6, so this place is like the Hilton by comparison. We lived and breathed this record 24 hours a day. We started making demos of our ideas in January while we were still on the road and came to Vegas with 18 song ideas that we have now narrowed down to 12. We went through and picked the best ideas and we even wrote a couple of brand new songs right here in the studio. Our producer, Kevin Churko, has been so amazing to work with. He has pulled the absolute best performance out of every one of us, helping us find the essence of every song and every idea we come up with. We are really excited because there is an undeniable chemistry happening between us and Kevin; all the songs are turning out better than we ever imagined. Pretty much it's turned out what we had hoped for! Somewhere along “The Dead Eye” - tours we started to see a pattern in what songs we kept coming back to, and what we felt really good about in the live setting and started talking about making a record that reflected the live energy of the band. As things went along and we finished a live session for Swedish National Radio P3, we knew it could be done. We decided to record the whole album live, and add vocals and solos once we had the songs down with the right energy and groove. Tue loved the idea. Like always Peter confused the hell out of everyone by presenting 25 ideas almost a year before we were even going to record, but later calmed the mood by explaining it was mostly to inspire and provoke. It worked. Anders and Jonas started dropping CD's of scatterbrain ideas and mixed riffs and we started digging. Anders bringing industrial and melodic ideas to the table, and Jonas traditional metal roots. Initially Jensen felt he didn't know where to go with it, he told Peter, "All I come up with is grind...", "So what? Then write grindriffs! It's all gonna sound like THE HAUNTED in the end anyway." Pete told him, and shortly after Jensen started pounding us with typical simplistic Jensen trademark riffs. Recording was a quick and painless process, once all was in place, we spent ten days in PUK studios getting the music tracked under the supervision of the king cool, Tue Madsen. We spent eight days of vocal tracking at the In Flames studio, and at Antfarm, with a short pause where Pete underwent surgery for an infected jaw. Then Tue mixed and mastered most of the record in his head, driving around with his kid, eating french fries and rocking out, before returning to Antfarm to turn the necessary knobs and switches. So what does it sound like? Definitly THE HAUNTED: Great songs, catchfire-riffing, hooks catchier than herpes on a biker slut, explosive groovy beats and lyrics as sharp, dark, and dripping sarcastic bile like someone who just got back from Hell with a bone to pick. "Moronic Colossus" and "Trenches" are songs we've already picked up and added to the live set with fan approval. While Trouble-inspired "Ceremony" will have your head bobbing, "Pieces" draws to mind the current At The Gates tour, while perhaps even more efficiently constructed in its heaviness. Hardcore sniffer "Crusher", a straight up ode to heavy music and metal in particular and the inimitable fury of "Little Cage" will have you smashing furniture and breaking speed limits. A.D., who had significant influence on the songwriting for the band's latest album "Antithesis" (2006), explains his decision: "Due to my all-dominant negativity I cannot extract a single good aspect from representing my music live on stage any more. Thus the time on the road has been horrible for me. After I hit rock bottom the last time I decided to stop it all." S.O.T.M. mastermind sG finds himself distress in view of the situation: "I feel like a shadow these days. Humble, yet having the will to appear more potent than ever when all this struggle is endured one day. We're excited to record a new album since it's been two years since we recorded ‘Time Will Fuse its Worth.’ It's hard to believe it's been that long! The CD will be released on Prosthetic Records in early ‘09 and the vinyl version will come out around the same time. Phillip [Cope, Kylesa guitarist/vocalist (Baroness, Black Tusk)] will be producing the record. We'll send a few updates and photos from the studio.”In other KYLESA record news, Red Cobalt Industries is producing a very limited alternate CD version of ‘Time Will Fuse its Worth’ for a Japanese release. The packaging was totally re-designed by Laura and is loaded with extra things including a poster of the "Double Skull" tee shirt design by John Baizley (Baroness, Darkest Hour, Torche, Skeletonwitch) and a sticker by Santos. About the recordings, the vocalist Max Lima comments: "The recordings couldn't be better. It's already possible to have a good idea of the new songs' power. September 10th, 2008	DIMMU BORGIR TO RELEASE NEW DVD DURING BLACKEST OF THE BLACK TOUR Resuming activity after a 2-year hiatus, this year’s five-band Blackest Of The Black tour package – which includes headliners Danzig, Norway’s DIMMU BORGIR, Moonspell, Winds Of Plague, and Skeletonwitch – will launch a 24-show trek on October 9th in Miami Beach, Florida and play its wrap-up show on November 10th in San Francisco, California. JEFF LOOMIS' complex shredding has been a central part of the progressive but powerful and thrashy edge often attributed to NEVERMORE’s trademark sound since the band’s formation in 1992. Their debut album “Cherno”, which has been originally released through the Finnish label UHO Production in March 2008 and entered the Finnish album charts at #11, will be released all across Europe via Century Media Records on July 21st, 2008 to allow this crushingly doomy effort to reach a wider audience. KYPCK's crew features vocalist E. Seppänen, guitarist S. S. Lopakka (formerly Sentenced), bassist J. T. Ylä-Rautio and drummer K. H. M. The festival includes an assortment of headliner-status and personally-chosen unsigned artists, including three bands that will be making their U.S. debuts. Bands already confirmed are: Dew Scented, Kittie, Divine Heresy, Mustasch, Daylight Dies, Bleed The Sky, Into Eternity, Ekotren, Skeletonwitch, The Destro, Gigan (ex-Hate Eternal), Psyopus, Level-C, Obszon Geschopf, Black Chapel, Demiricous, Gates of Slumber, Threat Signal, and The Absence. In all, the festival will host 60 bands over the two days. With an extensive background in the music business and live show promotion, promoter Rob Mason has modeled the Indianapolis Metal Fest to encompass all sub-genres of metal for a well-rounded and diverse lineup of bands.
