- HIRAX TO ENTER RECORDING STUDIO FOR NEW LABEL’S COMPILATION
“SPEED KILLS…AGAIN”; US TOUR IN NOVEMBER
LOS ANGELES- Thrash metal icons HIRAX will enter the studio in October
to record the first new material since 2004’s “The New Age
Of Terror.”
The band is scheduled to begin recording 4 new tracks on October 13
at Shiva Industries Studio in Santa Ana, California. John Haddad
will produce the tracks “Lucifer’s Inferno” and “City
of the Dead” for the compilation “Speed Kills…Again,”
to be released on the new label, Heavy Artillery, a subsidiary of Punk
Core Records. The other two tracks, “Summon the Death Dealers,”
and “Crown of Thorns,” will tentatively be released on limited
edition vinyl through Black Devil Records. The compilation will
also feature two songs each from Merciless Death, Warbringer, Violator,
Enforcer, Meltdown, and Avenger of Blood.
“HIRAX has never been a conventional metal band,” said vocalist
Katon W. De Pena. “We realize the importance of the younger
bands and we have always reached out to them the same as the older metal
heads. Punk Core Records started this subsidiary label so that
they could release thrash metal bands. They really support underground
music. Their Punk Core division has released great acts such as The
Causalities, The Virus, and Lower Class Brats.”
This will be the first studio recording with recent additions Lance
Harrison (lead guitar), Steve Harrison (bass), and Fabrico Ravelli (drums)
- joining HIRAX founding member vocalist Katon W. De Pena and lead guitarist
Glenn Rogers, who has just received an endorsement from Jackson Guitars.
HIRAX plan to record their full length record, “Assassins Of War,”
beginning in early 2007. The band recently sold out of the first
pressing of its first DVD, “Thrash Till Death.”
Following a four-date tour of Mexico, HIRAX’S first-ever US tour
will begin in Philadelphia on November 10.
“We are fired up to do these upcoming tour dates!” said
De Pena. This is the first time in HIRAX history that we
will be doing an extended tour. We have played New York and Boston
before and the fans TOTALLY KICK ASS! They are very loud.
We are looking forward to playing for them again. We will be playing
some new songs from our upcoming album, “Assassins of War, “for
the first time live as well as HIRAX classics. The band is looking forward
to tear it up for the East Coast thrashers.”

- MY DYING BRIDE Parts Ways With Drummer
Drummer Shaun Steels has left U.K. doom metal band MY DYING BRIDE. "His
continuing illness shows no sign of abating and he feels the uncertaintly
could be having a negative affect on his relationship with the bandmembers,"
reads a posting on the group's web site.
Shaun Steels has issued the following statement regarding his departure
from the group:
"I would just like to salute MY DYING BRIDE for the good times
and wish them all well in the future, I feel I am not ready to fulfill
the duties in a manner befitting MY DYING BRIDE at this time and have
decided to stand down. I am sad to be leaving but at this time I feel
it is for the greater good of the band."
Peaceville/Snapper Music has set an October 31 U.S. release date for
"A Line of Deathless Kings", the new album from MY DYING BRIDE.
It is the band's ninth studio effort and introduces drummer John Bennett.

- SIRENIA album update
Norwegian Gothic Metallers SIRENIA have finished recording their upcoming
album: "The recording sessions for the new album are completed
and we are now in the middle of the mixing process. We are on schedule,
so the album will be completed by the 1st of October. The title of the
upcoming album is 'Nine Destinies and a Downfall', and it will be released
early next year."
"Nine Destinies and a Downfall" was recorded at Jailhouse
studios in Norway with engineer Hans Eidsgard and Soundsuite studios
in France with Terje Refsnes. The CD is being mixed and mastered at
Antfarm studios in Aarhus, Denmark with Tue Madsen.

British Doom masters CATHEDRAL are scheduled to appear at Finland`s
Helldone Festival. The festival will take place at the Tavastia Club
in Helsinki from December 29th to 31st. Alongside CATHEDRAL, labelmates
AMORPHIS plus acts such as HIM, KATATONIA and ANATHEMA will rock the
house.
- AUGURY GUITARIST WORKING ON SOLO PROJECT
Mathieu Marcotte is currently recording an instrumental solo project
called "Humanoid". This acoustic-space-metal project with
varied influences such as Cynic, Pink Floyd and Opeth, will feature:
Forest (Augury, Quo Vadis, Atheretic) on fretless bass and ChaotH (Unexpect)
on bass. The cover artwork will be a creation from Michel 'Away' Langevin
(Voivod).
"Humanoid" shall see its release in the spring of 2007.

- MY DYING BRIDE US RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCED
Philadelphia: Peaceville/Snapper Music today confirm October 31 as the
US release date for A Line of Deathless Kings, the new album from Yorkshire,
England's My Dying Bride. It is the band's ninth studio effort and introduces
drummer John Bennett.
Brave Words Bloody Knuckles proclaims, "My Dying Bride are practically

Unique Documentary Shot In India Also Included
(Los Angeles, CA) Joe Satriani, having raised the bar on guitar playing
and brought supreme musicianship back to rock & roll, is about to

package Satriani Live! takes multiple journeys into the essence of creativity

In addition to breathtaking, nine-camera footage of Satriani, rhythm

tearing it up for more than two hours at their Anaheim stop during this

Flying in a Blue Dream, an account of the band's shows throughout India

Films, Flying in a Blue Dream focuses equally on the music as well as
the people and places that hosted the group, from young guitar students
emulating their hero's moves to exotic landscapes that mirror the beauty
and power of Satriani's performances.
Along with these films, Satriani Live! records life and work away from
the spotlight, through podcasts that were shot by Joe and/or his son
ZZ. In decidedly unglamorous settings, from rehearsal studios to green
rooms on the European leg of their tour, the musicians emerge as slightly
crazed characters who just happen to be world-class virtuosos. Add to
this photographer Patrick Cusse's stunning slide show, based on photos
of Satch and his band, and the epic "Super Colossal" video,
and Satriani Live! towers above typical music DVDs in its ambition,

"Some of the stuff on the podcasts is ridiculously funny, where
the Peter Sellers in everybody starts to come out," Satriani says.

Century Media Records unveils footage of legendary ICED EARTH “Alive
In Athens” show from 1999
With ICED EARTH, Jon Schaffer created one of the most successful Power
Metal bands ever. One of those reasons for their success is that ICED
EARTH were always renowned as being one of the best live bands ever.
Their first and only live album “Alive In Athens” was recorded
at two sold-out shows on the nights of January 23rd and January 24th,
1999, at the Rodon Club in Athens, Greece. Originally released as a
triple-CD and 5 picture-vinyl set in summer 1999, “Alive In Athens”
entered the German charts on #55 and stayed two weeks on #1 in Greece,
where it was quickly honoured with Gold status.
“Alive In Athens” was heralded by many as one of the greatest
live heavy metal albums ever recorded, often named up among such hallowed
company as Iron Maiden’s “Live After Death” and Judas
Priest’s “Unleashed In The East” as one of the finest
live albums ever captured.
Seven years after the release of “Alive In Athens”, a discovery
was made when raw footage of the live show itself was discovered in
a discontinued archive, and out of curiosity alone the footage was immediately
converted to a modern tape format and examined. Although only three
cameras were present at the show, the energy and atmosphere of the material
was overwhelming, and only three of the 31 live songs (“Slave
to the Dark”, “A Question of Heaven” and “Iced
Earth”) were absent or unusable due to videotape changes of the
camera team. Not having known that camera footage existed from such
a legendary concert, the decision was made to share the material with
the world in the form of “Alive In Athens – The DVD”.
The audio files have been re-mastered for 5.1 DTS surround sound to
offer the best quality live feeling. While not as slick as the modern
16-camera, quick-cut DVD releases found today, the fact that fans can
now share the visual experience of being at the show is one that will
surely be rejoiced. Some backstage footage and a Jon Schaffer interview
with the German music channel VIVA TV were also unearthed and added
as part of this historical performance, leaving it without the standard
bells and whistles but nonetheless delivering more than 2-1⁄2
hours of the best Metal ever recorded live.

- BORKNAGAR New song online!
To never stand still is a motive ideally describing Norwegian avant-garde
black metal act BORKNAGAR. Mastermind Oystein G. Brun did not fear to
take many risks on his previous releases and with such a gifted vocalist
as Vintersorg (also Cronian, Fission) on board, Brun could also make
his vision of an acoustic BORKNAGAR album reality. The result is entitled
“Origin” (European Street Date: 30.10.2006) and as a little
appetizer for this diverse and daring effort, the opening track “Earth
Imagery” is now online at the band’s Century Media Artist

Oystein G. Brun comments on the new effort and the first advance song
“Earth Imagery”:
The wooden, organic presence in our music has always been the very essence
of our musical expression through the years. The spark that lit the
torch, one winter night back in 1994, was the magical feeling that just
grabbed me when I tried out some rather untraditional chords on my new-bought
acoustic guitar. Since then I have always based my songwriting on acoustic
themes and there is few riffs throughout the years that actually have
not been written on acoustic guitars in the first place.
With our first six albums we have been on a long musical journey, taking
a huge step further each time. Progression has been crucial to the whole
existence of the band and we have always been striving to challenge
musical boundaries for ourselves and others. Our 6th album “Epic”
was a massive release in many aspects. The album was an hour long, tons
of arrangements and the lyrics had an intricate character. This time
around we just felt the urge to bring everything really down to earth
and make an album which fully blooms as a manifest of our musical origin.
Based on this we put ourselves in the challenging position to make a
100% acoustic album. The idea for this album was spawned already back
in 2001, but at that time we planned to just make an album with acoustic
re-makes of already released material. The idea evolved and in 2004
I started to work on some new material with the intention to keep it
acoustic. The summer of 2005 we started to record the album at Toproom
studio in Norway with our engineer and co- producer Børge Finstad.
The album was recorded in different locations and sporadically throughout
2005 and the first half of 2006. We were lucky to involve some top-notch
musicians to finish the production of the album. Again Mr. Tiwaz contributed
with his rumbling wizardry. Sareeta (violin) and Thomas Nilsson (cello)
helped us to obtain the genuine wooden string sound that the album craved,
and Norwegian flute-icon Steinar Ofsdal (flutes and recorders) has added
mystic and enchanting atmospheres into the organic framework.
We are truly proud to lay another milestone in our musical universe
and believe that “Earth Imagery” is a fine representative
for the album. “Earth Imagery” is one of my personal favourites
on this album and even without the blast speed, screaming vocals and
distorted guitars(this time around) I am sure it will hit you in the
face as one of our most striking efforts so far. Enjoy!"

- SOMBERLAIN announces new guitarist and mixing sessions are delayed
The brazilian death metal band Somberlain announced Diego Lucena as
their new guitarist, three months after Yuri Leite left the band. Diego,
who already played in Ark of Sin, is already working with Somberlain
and recorded all the solos of the new album.
The release of the new album will be delayed to a sickness of the bassist
Delano Lima, which made the band to reschedule the final mixing sessions.

On October 24, Rounder Records/Zoë Vision will release the first-ever
music DVD from the legendary Robert Plant. Produced by Soundstage and
directed by Joe Thomas, Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation was featured
in concert recently on PBS television and is a must-see for new and
old fans of one of rock's most celebrated figures.
Few recording artists achieve the type of legacy that Robert Plant has
enjoyed, from his early career fronting hard rock juggernaut Led Zeppelin
to his critically acclaimed solo works. Plant's musical ventures range
from gritty blues to edgy metal, delicate acoustic balladry, lush soundscapes
infused with electronic elements, glowing pop, and roots music from
around the world.
“The spirit of rock'n'roll is live performance,” asserts
Plant. “Studio recordings can be captivating, and live albums
can capture some of the synergy in a concert, but there is really nothing
like being in the moment when the music is connecting you to the people-it's
truly a communion.”
Celebrating the magic of live musical performance was the impetus behind
the landmark PBS series, Soundstage. The program initially ran for 11
years (from 1974 through 1985) and featured some of the most prestigious
names in popular music, including Bob Dylan, Al Green, Aretha Franklin,
Bonnie Raitt, Arlo Guthrie, Jose Feliciano, and the Temptations, to
name but a few. Taped before small studio audiences, these intimate
performances offered home viewers a unique concert experience and fresh
perspective on the performers and their craft. The program was recently
resurrected and has been captivating a new generation of music fans
with one-hour live sets by a diversity of artists.
So it is fitting that Robert Plant's first-ever DVD release is his Soundstage
performance which was filmed at the Soundstage Studios in Chicago on
September 16, 2005, with his band, Strange Sensation. The quintet features
Clive Deamer (drums) from Portishead and Roni Size projects; John Baggott
(keyboards) of Portishead and Massive Attack; Billy Fuller (bass) from
Bristol band Fuzz Against Junk; ambient guitarist Skin, formerly of
Brit Pop phenomenon Cast; and Justin Adams (late of Sinead O'Connor,
Jah Wobble, and the Wayward Shakes) playing gimbri, darbouka, and guitar.
Clocking in at 66 minutes total, the program was captured live in high-definition
and mixed in 5.1 Surround Sound. The set ran the gamut from reinvented
Led Zeppelin classics to some striking selections from Plant's solo
career. “No Quarter” is infused with rich world music flavors;
“Black Dog” is fueled by a deeper, funkier groove, and an
inspired version of “Four Sticks” is dedicated to the late,
great Led Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham, whose death in 1980 marked
the end of the band. Material from 2005's twice Grammy-nominated Mighty
Rearranger, Plant's first album of all new material in more than ten
years and a collection described by Rolling Stone magazine as an infusion
of “exotic melodies and blues thunder” includes “Freedom
Fries,” a roots rocker with a political twist. The concert closes
with a bang-an extended rendering of Zeppelin's orgasmic opus, “Whole
Lotta Love” which loses none of its vim despite a more subdued
arrangement and low-key setting. Bonus tracks include a rendition of
“Hey Joe,” the William Roberts classic popularized by guitar
virtuoso Jimi Hendrix and featured on Plant's twice Grammy-nominated
2002 album Dreamland and a cover of Bob Dylan's “Girl from the
North Country.”
“It's quite something to watch successive generations of music
fans discover and appreciate your work,” Plant observes. “It's
kind of like rediscovering the world through a child's eyes. You find
fresh nuances in the music and the songs continue to grow with a life
of their own. As I've explored the rich musical traditions of North
Africa and the Middle East, elements of those musics have worked their
way into some of the most unlikely songs-and that kind of constant reinvention
keeps your creativity piqued.”

This DVD is a modest testament to the timelessness of Led Zeppelin and
Robert Plant.

with singer René Betzold. The new microphone abuser will be former
bass player John Gahlert, who already wrote a lot of the vocal lines

Hansen (Heaven Shall Burn, Mercenary, Maroon, etc). The free spot behind

- TAIWANESE BLACK METAL MASTERS CHTHONIC TO RELEASE FOURTH ALBUM
SAN FRANCISCO – Taiwan’s biggest metal export, the symphonic
black metal band Chthonic, will release its fourth album, “Seediqbale,”
on October 3 through Down Port Music/RED.
The weepy sounds of the er-hu, a two-string violin that dates back to
Tang dynasty (618-907), gives Chthonic’s music an ethnic flare
while adding another eerie layer to the band’s sounds of strife
and tragedy.
“The Oriental two-string Violin is a common traditional instrument
in many Eastern Asian countries like Taiwan, Korea, China, Hong-Kong,
and Singapore,” said vocalist Freddy. “What is special about
it is its plaintive, sad tone. I decided to learn from a traditional
musician and started to play it in Chthonic’s music.”
Chthonic has stirred up controversy in the past with its strong Taiwanese
pro-independence stance, which has been the focus of much of the band’s
past material. In keeping with its culturally-inspired concepts, “Seediqbale”
reaches further back into Taiwanese history to the legend of the Seediq
and its struggle with Japan over land and religion.
Like two of the band’s previous albums, “Seediqbale”
was recorded at Borsing Recordings in Denmark. “When Chthonic
was formed in 1996, there was no extreme metal scene in Taiwan, not
to mention the studios capable of producing this kind of music,”
said Freddy. “So when we were prepared for our first album, we
compared some of the black metal albums we had and chose Illdisposed’s
album, because we liked its recording quality. Then we hooked up with
the studio that recorded that album and became good friends with the
boss, Jan Borsing. He has been working with us since then, including
in some big live concerts in Taipei as our sound engineer.”
Hailing from a country with a little-known metal scene, Chthonic has
gained national attention in its native land where it was awarded “Best
Rock Group” at the 14th Annual Golden Melody Awards, the Eastern
Asian equivalent of a Grammy.
The award was presented to the band by none other than the country’s
President Chen Shui-bian. “Music is more powerful, more moving
than politicians,” the President said before the band joined him
on stage.
The group capped off that momentous year by playing the annual New Year’s
Eve live, nationally broadcasted concert in front of President’s
Hall and the release of the band’s Mandarin theme for the 21st
Century Fox Taiwan release of “Freddy vs. Jason.”
Chthnonic’s previous albums. “Where the Ancestors’
Souls Gathered,” “9th Empyrean,” and “Relentless
Recurrence,” have been recorded in both Mandarin and English.
The group made its United States debut at the 2002 Metal Meltdown festival
and returned that year for a performance at the Milwaukee Metalfest.

GOJIRA confirmed for North American tour dates, debut on Headbangers
Ball, interview online French metal titans GOJIRA have been confirmed
as support for Children of Bodom's upcoming North American, alongside
Amon Amarth and Sanctity. The tour will cross the continent from late-November
to mid-December and marks the first time GOJIRA will play live to North
American audiences.

- SHADOWS FALL Hit The Studio; Atlantic Records Debut Expected In Spring
2007
Atlantic recording group Shadows Fall is currently in the studio recording
their highly anticipated major label debut with producer Nick Raskulinecz
(Foo Fighters, Stone Sour, Rush). The still untitled project is
the Grammy-nominated band's follow-up to 2004's critically acclaimed
"THE WAR WITHIN," and its companion release, 2006's "FALLOUT
FROM THE WAR," both released on Century Media Records.
After headlining this summer's STHRESS Tour with such supporting acts
as Suffocation and Poison The Well, Shadows Fall headed straight back
to their rehearsal space to begin pre-production. Today, September
18th, the band enters Studio 606 in Northridge, CA to begin recording.
Says singer Brian Fair, "I cannot wait to finally get this started!
We have been working on these songs for the past few months in the practice
space and are ready to lay them down in the studio. Pre-production
with Nick has been amazing. He is definitely on the same page
as us, musically and personally. He is a lifelong fan of metal

solo release from iconic KISS frontman Paul Stanley. The voice and songwriting
force behind such KISS classics as "Detroit Rock City," "Black
Diamond, "Hard Luck Woman" and "Tears Are Fallin', "
Stanley's career with KISS spans more than three decades and in excess
of 100 million records sold worldwide.
Stripping all the legendary bombast away, what becomes starkly clear
is that besides rocking relentlessly, the power of human emotion and
conviction on Live to Win can rattle not only the walls, but also touch
the heart and soul of the listener. "What I wanted to do on this
album was sing about my life because my life is not that different than
anybody else's," he continues. "The truth is, what we all
deal with in life is pretty similar. You change the names and the story's

out the album I heard in my head, without regard for having glitz and

Angels Dare" and Frederiksen on "Lift," and Knight
teaming with the frontman on "It's Not Me. "
Live to Win is self-produced by Stanley, who provides lead vocals, guitar
and percussion alongside a studio core of guitarist Corky James [Avril
Lavigne, The Matrix], drummer Victor Indrizzo [Beck, Macy Gray] and
keyboardist Harry Sommerdahl [Carrie Underwood, Lindsay Lohan]. Also
performing on the album are former KISS bandmate Bruce Kulick and guitarist
John 5.
"I've always believed that when you give somebody an album, it
should be like a fresh newspaper, where you get ink on your fingers
and it's today's news, says Stanley, who wrote and co-wrote the ten
tracks on Live to Win specifically for the new release. "For me,
this album is where I'm at now - This is where things are in my life,
and my perspective on my music.
Stanley is planning a North American club tour to coincide with the
release of the album.

Arkansas' RWAKE have begun work on their as-yet-untitled Relapse debut.
RWAKE (Gravy - guitar, Jeff - drums, C.T. - vocals, Reid - Bass, B.
- moog / samples / vocals, Kiffin - guitar) will record with Sanford
Parker at Electrical Audio (HIGH ON FIRE, NEUROSIS, PELICAN, ZAO)
and Parker's own Volume Studios (PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS, UNEARTHLY
TRANCE) in early October. This album, the band's third overall, is expected
to see an early 2007 release. Early song titles include "The Lure
of Light", "The Finality", "Fire and Flight"
and "The Cosmos Inverted".

- KK Downing produces VIOLENT STORM album.
Mick Cervino's new band, "Violent Storm" releases their album
"Storm Warning" on October 23rd in Europe. The album has been
produced by KK Downing, his first production credit outside of Judas
Priest, and features guest appearances from both Downing and Yngwie
Malmsteen.
Mick Cervino is best known for his bass playing duties with both Malmsteen,

Scottish newcomers MENDEED have just been confirmed as support for the
NAPALM DEATH / BORN FROM PAIN European tour, kicking off in Newcastle,

The recordings for MENDEED's new album, named "The Dead Lived By
Love", have been completed recently. The follow-up of "This
War Will Last Forever" shall get in stores at the end of February
2007.
- THRESHOLD recording update!
Threshold have started recording the follow-up to their 2004 album Subsurface
at Thin Ice Studios in Surrey, England. Much of the drums, guitars and
keyboards have now been recorded, with Mac's vocals due to be recorded
at the beginning of October.
No title has been announced for the album, but the song titles are as
follows: Slipstream, This is your life, Elusive, Disappear, Fighting
for breath, Hollow, Safe to fly, One degree down, Pilot in the sky of
dreams.
Recording is expected to be complete in November, with a release planned
for early in 2007.
- DEATHSTARS new guitarist
The DEATHSTARS have announced the addition of guitarist Cat to the group's
ranks. Cat, who previously played with the band as a session member,
is "an excellent guitar player with heart filled with deathsleaze
and a body built for sex," according to a posting on the group's
web site. "Cat will visit a girlfriend close to you on the upcoming
european tour."
On another note, Swiss band STONEMAN has been confirmed as the support
act for DEATHSTARS on ist "48 Carat Darkness" headlining tour,
which is scheduled to kick off in October. In addition, the following
bands will perform on select shows: LYZANXIA (France and Switzerland),
ENSOPH (Italy), PHANTASMAGORIA (Zagreb), FIRESTORM (Vienna) and CALATHEA

Los Angeles based tech-metal outfit INTRONAUT will be hitting the road

- MORE DETAILS UNVEILED ON FEAST ETERNAL’S, “PRISONS OF
FLESH” REISSUE
Open Grave Records is please to unveil more details in regards to the
reissue of FEAST ETERNAL’S, “Prisons of Flesh” album.
A release date of December 5th, 2006 has been set. “Prisons of
Flesh” is being reissued with it’s original artwork and
tracks. It will also feature two newly recording songs, "Serpents
Proclaim" and "Rage of Angels".
FEAST ETERNAL was formed in the winter of 1992 by ex-INFESTED members
John Greenman and T.J. Humlinski. The lineup was completed in October
1993 by the addition of drummer Matt Skrzypczak.
In early 2000, FEAST ETERNAL released their debut album, "Prisons
of Flesh", which was met with critical acclaim and produced a loyal
fan base. However due to personal reasons, John left the band before
FEAST was able to proceed with future endeavors, putting the band on
hold for a long period of time.
Fast forward to June 2006. The remaining members of FEAST ETERNAL (T.J.
and Matt) made their presence known again within the scene and began
writing material for a new FEAST ETERNAL album tentatively due in early
2007 on Open Grave Records.
