  • ORANGE SKY CONFIRMED TO ROCK WITH KING'S X, IN SUPPORT OF LATEST RELEASE, 'DAT IZ VOODOO'

Port of Spain, Trinidad may not be the first city music fans think of when the discussion of 'hot rockspots' comes up. But if the sophomore effort from Orange Sky, 'Dat Iz Voodoo,' is a representation of the local talent, it may soon join the likes of New York, Seattle, and London, as the group (which is comprised of singer/lead guitarist Nigel Rojas, rhythm guitarist Joel Beazer, bassist Nicholas Rojas, keyboardist Richard Hall, and drummer Obasi Springer) will be opening up a string of Texas dates with metal legends King's X. "We have always loved King's X, some of us since the early '90s," says Rojas. "We did one opening slot for them last year, in Kentucky, and got to meet Doug and the guys personally. They put on an incredible live show and we are honored to be able to share the stage with them."

The style that Orange Sky specialize in is quite varied…yet rocking. Perhaps a fan once gave the group the highest compliment, by gushing, "You guys sound and perform like if the Wailers and Black Sabbath had a baby." "I call our sound 'rock and roll'," says Nigel. "We emulate everything - hard rock, soft rock, punk, reggae, and metal, so I think the term rock and roll covers all these styles, and does not create an expectation from the potential listener of us being too metal, too reggae, too hard, or too soft. Our overall style offers all these soundscapes, colors, and emotions."

'Dat Iz Voodoo,' released via StarCity Records, represents a rebirth of sorts for Orange Sky, and proves that the group's critically acclaimed debut, 2006's 'Upstairs,' was no fluke. Case in point, the album-opening riff monger "Yesterdays and Tomorrows," the thrashy "Psycho World," the industrial-strength reggae-rock of "Is There Anybody There?" (which is a barely recognizable cover of a Scorpions song), and the crunching funk-metal riffs of "Dark Room." But there is one song specifically that stands out for Nigel. "I would say 'Alone,' because it is a blast from the past - we all like to think of it as a song we could share on the radio." A dozen songs in all, guaranteed to get fists pumping and moshpits swirling - with a couple of lighters-in-the-air/arm-around-your-girl moments in between.

And while 'Dat Iz Voodoo' is a fine stylistic showcase for the group, the quintet promises fans that they will take it to the next level on the album's ensuing tour. "Orange Sky live is one hell of a bad ass, fist pumping, heart melting, hilarious, thought provoking assault on the nervous system! Within an hour, our show will turn everyone exposed to us into our new friends and future Orange Sky seed sowers. Sounds arrogant? Not intended, just what we know what we are capable of - ask anyone who has been there. We seriously rock!"

  • EVERGREEN TERRACE announces album title – set to enter the studio this week!

(Los Angeles, CA) – Jacksonville, FL hardcore act EVERGREEN TERRACE is pleased to announce Almost Home as the title of their upcoming release and follow up to 2007's Wolfbiker. The band is now geared up to enter Audio Hammer Studios in Orlando, FL with Jason Suecof (Trivium, The Black Dahlia Murder, Job for a Cowboy) who will be recording vocals and handling mixing with the rest of the recording taking place with Stan Martell at Martell Studios in Kingsland, GA. Almost Home is set for a September release.

Here's what guitarist Josh James has to say; “Crunch time has now approached us, with just 1 week before we go into the studio. As always, we've given a lot and gone through even more during this writing period. From a member of the band leaving to a death in the family: we have accepted the changes that have come and gone in our lives and it all shows in this next batch of songs. I think this record will surprise the new listeners as well as have the old ones stoked. I'd say its best described as a good mixture of Burned Alive by Time and Wolfbiker, but of course, like every band says, ‘it's the best record we've done yet!' If you already hate our band then chances are you'll hate this record, if you already love our band then be prepared to have a new favorite ET record. Regardless, we're stoked.”

Musically, EVERGREEN TERRACE takes cues from no other. The band transitions effortlessly from fast, powerful heavy hardcore to melodic punk rock. This has allowed them to tour with a diverse group since their start in late 1999 including As I Lay Dying, Strung Out, Norma Jean, Every Time I Die, Hatebreed, Thursday, Gwar and a spot on the coveted Vans Warped Tour (2008) where the band played with Against Me!, All That Remains, Angels and Airwaves, Cobra Starship, Reel Big Fish, Rise Against, A Day To Remember, and many more.

Stay tuned to the bands website and MetalBlade.com for studio updates.

“…a riveting back-and-forth between lead screamer Andrew Carey and the guitar shrieks of axemen Craig Chaney and Joshua James, proof that some vocalists and bands are meant for each other…melody, intensity, positive attitude…” - Decibel

“Wolfbiker the album is indeed badass metalcore, and as a band, Evergreen Terrace takes a step forward…a big and boastful, fraternal, brothers in arms chant that could have filled CBGBs 10 years ago.” - Outburn

“Wolfbiker, the first release from the quintet's new home, Metal Blade, is the epitome of everything the band stands for: being yourself, doing what you want, and, of course, finding happiness.” – Alternative Press

  • New UFO album available; Fall 2009 US tour announced

In constructing this new album, legendary rock icons UFO composed more than 35 new tracks in advance of hitting the studio, 13 of which were short-listed and produced at the studio, and 10 of them making the final cut. The final product; the band's new album, The Visitor.

The current UFO lineup continues to consist of the three original members, Phil Mogg (vocals), Paul Raymond (guitar, keyboards), and Andy Parker (drums), as well as American world-class guitarist Vinnie Moore. Bass legend and original member Pete Way is currently suffering from a liver disease and was unfortunately not available for the studio production.

"All those who have been into UFO for a long time will find all our characteristic trademarks on The Visitor, and anybody new to the band will be impressed by our enthusiasm and dynamism," frontman Phil Mogg enthuses on the subject of the new songs. The Visitor sees the band benefiting especially from their collaboration with Vinnie Moore, who joined UFO in autumn 2003 and has made an excellent impression on the albums You Are Here (2004) and The Monkey Puzzle (2006), and on the band’s tours. Mogg continues,"Without running down previous UFO lineups, it's been a long time since we had a team as strong as this one. Vinnie contributes his youthful energy and amazing guitar technique, and in Andy's return we've seen the reappearance of a musician who has always been very important to the band's original sound."

Vocalist Trevor Strnad comments, “The Black Dahlia Murder DVD entitled Majesty is finally finished and ready to be unleashed on the world. Diehard fans will recognize that the title has been plucked from the chorus of Nocturnal. It was filmed and edited by our good friend/drinking partner Robbie Tassaro, whom we have worked with in the past for the filming of our ‘What A Horrible Night To Have A Curse' video. Robbie is a hilarious man in himself, and probably the only person we could trust to really capture the essence of the band. Doing a DVD was something we were very apprehensive about... doing video stuff is always a risk when you can't afford the luxuries that the MTV darlings can... I mean look at the majority of death metal videos on you tube... the comments are all people laughing how cheesy they are. For Christ's sake, look at our video for Funeral Thirst! That's ghetto metal fabulous. All of our videos, good and bad, will be featured on the second disc of the dvd, along with a shows worth of intense live footage, captured from various locations throughout our Summer Slaughter tour and our romp in support of Children Of Bodom. The live footage is unbelievable looking... it absolutely blew me away the first time I watched. I think he really nailed the energetic atmosphere of our concerts... it makes me want to stage dive myself. The main disc is chock full with over two hours of backstage footage and will give our fans a deserved look into the BDM machine. See your favorite thrashers drink 'til they puke, eat til they puke, smoke weed 'til they puke, etc. The Pantera DVD was our model to strive for, as it's the only metal DVD out there that warrants repeated viewings. Now that I have seen it a few times, I have had the semi painful realization that I am an alcoholic. I'll keep you posted on that as it develops.
Calling all thrashers! Behold the Majesty!”

Majesty, 2DVD Digipak includes over 3 HOURS of footage featuring interviews, performances and complete THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER audio/visual history. Available everywhere May 12th 2009.

Feature Documentary consisting of ridiculous tour antics, live footage, and band interviews.

  • STATIC-X Embarks on a European Summer Tour

CULT OF STATIC out NOW on REPRISE RECORDS

HOLLYWOOD, CA - Static-X will be hammering out their heaviest, most flammable work to date as they start their trek of major European festivals June 12th in Tallinn, Estonia. Just coming off the coattails of headlining 2009’s Snocore US run, this European metal journey is in support of their new release CULT OF STATIC, on Reprise Records. The album marries the band's aggressive driving force with disarming experimentation, a performance you do not want to miss.

Static-X’s CULT OF STATIC debuted at #16 on Billboard’s TOP 200 while STRINGWRAY hit the charts as the first single. Keeping the integral tones, Static-X encompasses shredding guitars with solos that have brought the band to a level of playing to be reckoned with. The cybernetic stomp of "Hypure" and "You Am I" bludgeon, bruise and break with precise grooves. Elsewhere, the staccato riffs on "Terminal" crush through an unmistakable guitar tone. Guitarist Koichi Fukuda blazes through incendiary solos, while Tony Campos bolts down demonic bass lines and Nick Oshiro pounds out deadly rhythms. Front-man Wayne Static riffs pure violence and screams out his soul. “Over the years my voice has been destroyed from excessive touring... and I love it,” exclaims Static. “The vocals on the new record are raw and brutal.” The fiery raw quality of CULT OF STATIC is blatant as the second single Z-28 now on the airwaves is climbing to the top.

The ONLY USA Show – DO NOT MISS THIS PERFORMANCE

RESURRECTION MACABRE to Release April 28th, 2009 On Mascot Records USA

HOLLYWOOD, CA – May 24th at the Maryland DeathFest 2009, USA metal-heads get a skull-crushing performance from one of the earliest innovators of Death Metal – The return of Pestilence after 15 years of deathlike silence.

Pestilence will release a brand new studio album Resurrection Macabre April 28th on Mascot Records USA. This album marks the display of the timeless power from a band that is the pacesetter of brutal death metal with extreme technique and skill.

The brand new album was recorded in Denmark, with producer Jacob Hansen. The new incarnation of Pestilence consists of original band member Patrick Mameli, the American bass wizard Tony Choy (Atheist, Cynic, a.o.) and powerhouse drummer Peter Wildoer (Arch Enemy, Darkane, a.o.). Guitar player Patrick Uterwijk will join the band for the live shows.

The result of many months of hard work is aptly titled Resurrection Macabre. The new album has everything to offer that a fan of Pestilence – old and new. It has the dark atmosphere, brutal vocals, sheer power and technical skills the trademarks of Pestilence.

Another link to the glory days of the past are the three old Pestilence songs that get a new life on the new album: Chemo Therapy, Out Of the Body and Lost Souls, all coming from the first two Pestilence albums. “It seemed like a good idea to connect ourselves to our musical past,” explains Mameli. “Apart from that I liked the idea of revisiting those old songs and to see what they would sound like when performed and recorded in this advanced day and age.”

The first responses of fans, promoters and media are overwhelming and unanimous: Pestilence are back!

    Vocalist Alissa White-Gluz comments:

"It was very difficult to decide on a single for the new album, “Lullabies for the Dormant Mind", because every song is so different and we love them all! So, we decided that we would make 2 music videos, one is currently under production and the other is ready to be viewed. This "mini-video" is for the song "...and Their Eulogies Sang Me to Sleep", and is, again, directed by the great David Brodsky. We wanted to capture the claustrophobia of a coffin and the chaos of death in the video. Enjoy!"

  • Autumnblaze "Perdition Diaries" to be released on June 15, 2009

AUTUMNBLAZE ... that does ring a bell, doesn't it? The band who ventured into the realms of alternative rock with their last album"Words Are Not What They Seem" (2004) and then imploded two years later because of internal differences now sees its phoenix-like resurrection – the classic line-up of Eldron, Arisjel, and Schwadorf (The Vision Bleak etc.) has come together again to record a new album.

"Perdition Diaries" is something of a statement, the fruit of a return to the roots of AUTUMNBLAZE, and it comes across like a creative eruption. This album is a tribute to 1990's-era dark metal, to a time where the conventions of metal were trampled underfoot and the genre's conceptual chains were irrevocably broken from the inside. AUTUMNBLAZE mastermind Eldron puts it more precisely, "Bands such as Paradise Lost, Anathema, Katatonia, My Dying Bride, Dark Tranquillity, or At The Gates are prime examples for an exploration of the human soul, the struggle of the individual against the chasms of life. Away from the metal standards of the 1980's, towards a kind of deeply emotional resistance against the norms. We spit on all those who are blindfolded by their own limitations, and we continue that which was begun in the early nineties!"

In 2009, AUTUMNBLAZE have returned to the unvarnished originality of their artistic and creative urge. Intense music enwrought with whipping melodies and full of aggression, and pieces with basic instrumentation filled with a fragile despair – between these musical poles the lyrics unfold their "Perdition Diaries": hopes, dreams, the powerful secrets of music, arrogance, annihilation, loss, and despondency. The personal destinies portrayed here turn into symbols that come alive in the depths of the listener's emotions, weaving their own images there and opening their own unique, sealed-up diaries.

The release of "Perdition Diaries" is set for June 15, 2009. You can get a first glimpse of the album here with the song "Brudermord".

  • DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT To Release KI

In a world of increasing conformity and musical banality, Devin Townsend is among the few real personalities who have character, charisma and surprising innovative creativity. As a solo artist and producer, a member of the (by now disbanded) Strapping Young Lad, with whom he played Ozzfest and the main stage at the Download festival, and vocalist on Steve Vai’s album, Sex And Religion, – Townsend has always inspired fans and critics alike. The latest chapter of his extremely diverse career is entitled Ki and will be out in May/June 2009. “Ki is the first in a series of four albums under the moniker ‘Devin Townsend Project’. Each album is essentially a different band or collection of session musicians playing my music,” Townsend explains. “They were chosen based on what the theme of the album is and the vibe that the album is trying to project. The album Ki is very specific in this quartet of albums in that it controls its anger throughout, barring one song - ‘Heaven Send’ - and really is an exercise in having little to prove.”

The most renowned project member on Ki is drummer Duris Maxwell (62), who has played with many acts, such as Heart, Jefferson Airplane, The Powder Blues, Tommy Chong and The Temptations. Maxwell even jammed with Hendrix. “I am very conscious of drummers and the energy they bring to the bands,” Townsend says. “I went to a blues club way up in the North of Canada and watched Duris. He has the vibe I wanted for the drums here: nothing to prove, but strong and a bit angry. Duris is an older cat but he’s heavy.” He is supported by bassist Jean Savoie. “Jean plays in a Beatles cover band and spent years playing the cruise ships all over the world. Name a style and he can jam it for hours. His technique is accomplished, and the fact that he had never played heavy music made him and Duris perfect for the project.” Dave Young is the keyboardist, and Townsend has been working with him for years: “He’s the most schooled musician out of all of us and can play any instrument. Keyboard players typically annoy the hell out of me, but Dave is more of an ambient musician and fills the spaces with fitting but unusual note choices simply by watching where I am on my fretboard.“

After an extremely difficult phase (“I quit many bad habits in my life after SYL ended. I felt depressed, angry and unhealthy and was not satisfied with living that way for the rest of my life. I quit all drugs, alcohol and a host of other addictions that were controlling me and my world”), Ki now sees him embark on an unmistakably new path. Although not overly aggressive, the album oozes a haunting intensity, a vitality which hides below a seemingly smooth surface. “Ki is a subtle, severe album, a challenge in some ways. The point to the music is that the whisper is louder than the roar in many ways. Ki is - on the surface - quiet and unassuming. Whenever it begins to lose its temper, it stops and doesn’t let go. It is avoiding that temptation, as that sort of anger is really gratifying but ultimately just leaves me unhappy.“

In perfect unison with this thoroughly unusual, gripping and intelligent album, Townsend presents a three-dimensional cover artwork. As the music on Ki, the graphic design is also consciously multilayered. Townsend: “I live in the North of Canada and I believe that the native cultures of the world have it really down in terms of spirituality. Nature is ‘God’, in all its subtlety and terror. And we are all a part of it, whether or not we want to be. The mask on the cover is based on native North American and Chinese paintings. It is not authentic and is just meant to be two faces in one.”

And what will the future bring? “When all four records in the DTP series are done and the ultimate box set is released at the end (eight records plus a DVD), I will play selected shows throughout the world. I will not climb into a van and play clubs in the middle of nowhere, though, I am going to assemble a sober team of incredible musicians to play ALL the records, perfectly, to many people. You will see me soon, and get ready for the next three records in the series; Ki is a subtle introduction to a sprawling theme. Please enjoy, it’s good to be back.”

  • RAVENLAND - New album with collaboration of Moonspell producer and writer

    - Brazilian goth metallers RAVENLAND will have its new album, "...and A Crow Brings Me Back" released in Brazil in the next few weeks by Free Mind Records. AOL’s Noisecreep says of the release, “a volcano swelling remix of Prong's previous album, a rather dusted over gem…” while Abort Magazine proclaims the new album is “destined to be an industrial classic.”

As previously reported, Prong will headline a European run named the “Worst of The Worst” tour (dates below); just confirmed as support will be the UK band Die So Fluid (diesofluid.net). With the postponement of The Suicidal Metalfest in Tucson, Ariz., Prong’s May 10 club show has been canceled.

  • EX DEO: Behemoth, Nile, Keep of Kalessin Members Guest on Debut Album!

EX DEO, the new Roman themed band featuring Maurizio Iacono of KATAKLYSM, have just announced a complete list of guest appearances on their debut record entitled “Romulus”. Nergal of BEHEMOTH will appear on the song “Storm the Gates of Alesia” singing a very famous quote from Julius Caesar. Karl Sanders (NILE) added a ripping solo on the song “The Final War (The Battle of Actium)” which deals with Antony and Cleopatras defiance of Octivian in Egypt. Finally Obsidian C. of KEEP OF KALESSIN lends a majestic and beautifully melodic solo on the track “Cruor Nostri Abbas”.

Commented vocalist Maurizio Iacono also of KATAKLYSM fame:

"It’s an honor for me that such talented musicians and friends lended their art for a couple songs on this album. I only asked a few select people that had an involvement with history through their music and related to this bands concept. So I salute them for contributing to Rome’s rise and they shall be aptly rewarded for it! Word coming from the province of Serbia is that the video is almost ready to be presented. I had a glimpse of it already and all I can do is smile."

  • CASTEVET drops debut 7-inch; full-length details emerge

Castevet's debut 7", "Stones/Salts" has been officially released through Paragon Records. The 7” is available on clear vinyl, and is limited to 300 copies worldwide. You can preview “Stones/Salts” now at the following site: http://castevet.bandcamp.com. "Stones/Salts" can be purchased through the band's website or from Paragon's site now. Journalists into covering the release can get in touch with Earsplit now as well.

In the demonology tome The Lesser Key of Solomon, Paimon is keeper of the secrets of music, art and philosophy. His appearance is heralded by demons in the form of men blaring discordant trumpets and rattling cymbals. In order to receive Paimon’s knowledge, a conjurer must first allow him to ask any question he wishes. “Stones/Salts” reshapes the grim, dissonant riffing and anguished rasp of black metal into a new form that asks questions of the listener before revealing the secrets hidden within its epic structures.

Castevet will be entering PAINcave Studios this September to record their debut full length with engineer Colin Marston (Dysrhythmia, Behold...The Arctopus, Krallice). The album, which is not yet titled, will be seeing a 2010 release.

Castevet will be performing alongside Bone Awl, Ashdautas, and Volahn on 6/17 at Cherry St. Station in Wallingford, CT.

  • MNEMIC GUITARIST TO DEVELOP NEW INTERACTIVE PERFORMANCE SYSTEM

The incorporation of visual arts with music has not yet been deÄned as a genre and the concept of the combination of audio and visual content is still in its early stages. As these aspects have not yet been explored to their full potential, MNEMIC guitarist Mircea Gabriel Eftemie will build a new Interactive Performance System in relation to his studies at the University of Aalborg, Denmark.

    Commented the guitarist:

"The project seeks to implement the artists’ visions by constructing a live performance application in order to enrich and expand the entertainment platform, but also to seek how to further establish an effective communication between performer and audience. As part of my Medialogy studies, I am simply trying to cross media platforms and create something new and innovative. I have a great opportunity to combine my academic skills and knowledge of the entertainment industry by implementing a platform and testing it with my own metal band, MNEMIC. Put in more simple terms, the band will perform with a dynamic canvas, displaying visuals manipulated by the band’s own audio signals. The style of the band will be reÅected in the choice of effects and images that will be displayed. The very first beta-test will give usability results that have to be further analyzed. MNEMIC’s future performances will become much more dynamic, and the goal is to enrich the experience beyond the regular platforms of modern stage performances.”

Testing will be conducted with help from visual artist and old friend Lasse Hoile (www.lassehoile.com), who has been creating visuals and videos for such class acts as Opeth, Porcupine Tree, and many other touring bands. MNEMIC will enable imagery provided specifically by Lasse Holie for the performance.

The first beta-test of Eftemie’s Interactive Performance System will take place during MNEMIC’s live performance at the 9th of May at the Studenterhuset, in the city of Aalborg, as part of Denmark’s Way Up North Festival (http://www.wayupnorth.dk/).

  • GOATWHORE announces ‘Carving Out the Eyes of God' as the title of their new studio album

New Orleans, LA's sons of American no-frills black metal, GOATWHORE, have just announced that the title of their fourth full-length album, and second for Metal Blade, will be Carving Out the Eyes of God. For the follow up to 2006's A Haunting Curse, GOATWHORE headed back to St. Petersburg, FL to record with producer Erik Rutan at Manna Studios with mastering being handled by Alan Douches of West West Side.

Vocalist Ben Falgoust comments on the direction of the new album; “I don't really know how to explain this. I don't want to come off with the typical speech about how this record is our best yet and all of that. I will say that I am quite pleased how it has turned out and all parts relating to it. I feel every member put a great deal of effort into their part of the project. I even feel Erik Rutan busted his ass even more this time to make us feel that we didn't take any steps backwards in the recording and production of this release…I don't even really care what the critics say. I think the end result is basically coming up with something you have put a lot of work into and the satisfaction achieved in completing it. I will say that the new material is ripping metal and we still have that ‘Goatwhore' sound, whatever that may mean for each individual that enjoys or hates what we do. Just look at it as another step in the evolution of this band. Each person that hears it will have his or her own perception of it. Like it or not, we don't have a say in it. The only thing we can do is just keep writing the way we do and accept the criticism. Doesn't mean we are gonna listen to the criticism and change. Just give it an honest listen and if you dig it, awesome! If you don't, then pass it on to a friend or use it as a new drink coaster.”

Guitarist Sammy Duet had this to add; “Dark, heavy, evil. Erik Rutan did one hell of a job on it. If you don't like it… kiss my ass.”

Track listing to Carving Out the Eyes of God:
    1. Apocalyptic Havoc
    2. The All-Destroying

  • NILE TO ENTER STUDIO IN JUNE

NILE will be entering the studio on June 8th at Mana Recording in Tampa, Florida to work on their forthcoming second album on Nuclear Blast with Neil Kernon as producer and Erik Rutan as engineer.

"I'm really thrilled to be working on another album with NILE,” states Kernon. “This will be the third album we've done together, and we have a great working relationship in the studio that has only improved with time. I am certain that this record will be our strongest team effort yet. It will also be a lot of fun to meet and work with Erik Rutan, who is going to be involved with the engineering end of things. I've been a fan of Erik's work in Hate Eternal and also his studio work for some time. He has a strong work ethic, and I'm very optimistic that this collaboration will be fruitful and inspiring for all of us."
