  • Job For A Cowboy: New Song Posted Online

Award-winning Glendale, AZ heavy music powerhouse JOB FOR A COWBOY (JFAC) has completed work on its hotly-anticipated sophomore album, entitled Ruination. The record will see a July 7, 2009 North American release date via Metal Blade Records.

The brand new JFAC song “Unfurling a Darkened Gospel” has been posted online today and is available to stream now at this location. The album's cover art and full color booklet have also been made available for viewing at the landing page. The striking, quasi-conceptual motif was designed by Brent Elliott White and takes its inspiration from JOB FOR A COWBOY front man Jonny Davy's album lyrics and concepts. Topics addressed by the album's schema revolve around modern day worldwide dilemmas and controversial issues including “Propaganda in the main stream media and television, humanitarian rights of Northern Korea, the modern genocidal government of Nubia, the use of torture in American military tactics, overruling by world governments and Police states / Martial law”.

JOB FOR A COWBOY's Ruination is available for pre-order now at this location. Upon the release of the album, the quintet will hit the road as one of the featured acts of the 2009 “ROCKSTAR Energy Mayhem Festival” alongside Slayer, Marilyn Manson and more. The 27-date North American march is slated to launch on July 10 in Sacramento, CA.

In additional JFAC news, the band will shoot its first music video from Ruination – for the new song "Regurgitated Disinformation" -- on Saturday, June 6 in Philadelphia, PA and is inviting fans to attend and be a part of the event. Presented by R5 Productions & 94 WYSP/Rockers, the JFAC shoot will take place in Philly's First Unitarian Church beginning at 8:00 PM EDT. Downloadable vouchers for the video shoot / live performance will cost just .94 cents and are available now at this location. In addition to the video shoot, the evening will include a full live set from both JOB FOR A COWBOY and a “special guest” opening act.

The event voucher will be exchanged for an “admission wristband” on the day of the show. Wristbands will be issued on a first come, first serve basis starting at 12 PM (noon) on June 6 at the main entrance of The First Unitarian Church and will only be available to those who purchased the voucher in advance. The wristband will guarantee admission to the show that evening as well as both a special meet and greet with JFAC and a limited edition poster that includes a promo code to download a special digital Metal Blade sampler featuring new music from Job for a Cowboy, Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth and more. Fans who arrive too late to receive wristbands will still be able to partake in the meet and greet and receive the poster with digital sampler promo code. Full details on the event can be found at this location.

JOB FOR A COWBOY features front man Jonny Davy, guitarists Bobby Thompson and Al Glassman, bassist Brent Riggs and drummer Jon “The Charn” Rice.

    Lazarus AD

“The Onslaught is firmly rooted in the classic chug-a-chug riffage, wah-wah blitzkrieg solos, and raw-throated shouts of prime 80's Bay Area thrash, but it also mixes in blast beats and more modern, progressive passages that the previous generation never would have explored, successfully dragging a dated sound into the 21st century.” 4/5 stars Revolver Magazine

“Get ready for some friggin ridiculous thrash from Wisconsin! Not bay area thrash, think Master of Puppets era Metallica thrash.” Hails & Horns

  • SUFFOCATION Film Video Clip

New York based extreme metal legends SUFFOCATION will film a video clip for the track “Cataclysmic Purification” this Sunday with director David Brodsky (ARSIS, GOD FORBID, KATAKLYSM, SWASHBUCKLE). SUFFOCATION entered the studio on January 31 with Joe Cincotta (who worked on the band's last two releases) to begin recording "Blood Oath". Ready to embark on their first tour of North America in September with Dutch death metallers God Dethroned, New York’s Abigail Williams, and Ohio’s Woe Of Tyrants in support of their Nuclear Blast debut, Fragmentary Evidence (release date: August 11th), members of Montreal’s AUGURY check in from their rehearsal space in their hometown of Montreal with the following:

“It'll be exciting to spread our music to a larger audience in America,” states guitarist Mathieu Marcotte. “Even though we have never played there yet, we have a lot of fans who are waiting to see us live. The challenge is the same wherever you're playing: to put out your best every night while having fun.”

Drummer Antoine Baril adds: “There are so many great cities that I’ve always been dreaming to visit and it’s even better to know that we will play a show in each one of them. My biggest challenge is to get better and better as a musician at each show and spread energy to the crowd to share the endless passion I have for this music we play.”

“What we expect is a spiral of colliding human bodies, rotating as a single mass, yielding all that energy,” predicts vocalist & guitarist Patrick Loisel. “In the end, it'll be like Godzilla trampled your town!”

In addition to pledging multiple updates during the tour and answering all fan e-mails, AUGURY’s self-described “archive freak” (Baril) will be uploading video footage from the tour onto the band’s MySpace site.

It began seven years ago when a pact was made within a dilapidated house hidden in Southern California. It was here that Autarch, Roskva and Menno found themselves in agreement that should the occult sciences be applied to music, the results would prove extremely dangerous to their sanity, yet yield spectacular results. LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH, as they would name it, would be in itself a meticulously designed hyper-sigil constructed to direct and antagonize the limitless dark energy that lurks within the less navigable chasms of the human mind and the space between spaces.

In 2007 the band unleashed The Golden Plague upon the earth. This declaration of unholy war was well-received and inspired a tour of the west coast and north western blocks of the United States. Audiences witnessed performances by men possessed by insane devils. LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH live continuously proved to be a conqueror’s fury leaving an ashen stain on every stage they destroyed. The tour began sharing battleground with bands like Nachtmystium and High On Fire and concluded with LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH opening for Danzig during the mighty Blackest Of The Black tour.

Said Decibel magazine of The Golden Plague, "I truly wanted to know how USBM crew LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH get their sound. It's seriously crushing and vicious and yet it sounds like it's 10 miles away. Or 10 miles underground. Uncanny. You know, it's an art sounding this fucked up. …'Let This Knife Lead You To Us’ has a riff worth killing for." SOD magazine simply called it "a torrent of anguish" while Pit added, "LSOD leave no face unripped with a blackened death approach that puts as much importance on memorable hooks and downtrodden groove as it does on blast beat blaspheme."

The second release took the form of a split CD with comrades VALDUR which was only available for a limited time at performances during the country wide 2008 Blodhevn tour. Metal Maniacs called LSOD’s part a "heavy, bestial and brutal assault bringing to mind a young and hungry Thornspawn.” Said Decibel in a recent review of the split, “Sort of like Watain with American heft, LSOD's four beastly shanties shake Tiamat from their centuries-long slumber. And she ain’t happy ‘bout it.”

The split continues to infect all who experience its unyielding expression of true chaos, but it’s only a precursor of the grand and terrible horror that is looming in the future like a headsman's shadow….

The band will pillage their way through Missouri for this year’s edition of the Kansas City Power Metalfest [http://www.myspace.com/kansascitypowermetalfest] on August 14th then make their way to New York City on August 17th for a show at Lit Lounge’s renowned Precious Metal Party [http://www.myspace.com/preciousmetalnyc]. More dates TBA soon…

  • DEVILSTONE OPEN AIR – three days of music with devils in nature
July 17-19, 2009, Dainuva valley – Anyksciai, LITHUANIA

Devilish feast on the bank of the river: three days of metallic uproar, headlined by SEPULTURA, and head-banging together with the grands of metal scene – KEEP of KALESSIN, CODE and SINISTER – in the DEVILSTONE OPEN AIR, also featuring Lithuanian metal elite and other extreme acts...

It is the debuting edition of the Lithuanian metal festival, where twenty bands are confirmed for three concerts. The variety of metal styles as well as bands’ geography is wide enough – from Brazil through Europe to Jordan, not bypassing the traditional metal music nest – Scandinavia, for sure.

The DEVILSTONE OPEN AIR will take place in small but cute, cosy and historical Anyksciai town, offering much authentic sightseeing, as well as modern amusement. Find alternative/extreme culture in the context of local ancient heritage – this is the festival’s concept, inspired by Anyksciai town legend: “...devil had been carrying a huge rock above the town, aiming to crush the church, but he dropped the stone wherever to its fate as the cock scared him away at the break of dawn...”

Thus festival mission is far reaching. Beside the three big metal concerts it will offer a rich cultural program: Night Rocktheques, Volleyball matches, specially arranged Excursion round the town, and more. Camping ground will be based right there along the river. Swimming, football, fresh air – overall place is grateful for natural attractions and devilish feast…

DEVILSTONE OPEN AIR features: SEPULTURA – Brazil, Modern Thrash; KEEP of KALESSIN – Norway, Black; CODE – England/Norway, Nostalgic Black; SINISTER – Netherlands, Technical Death; AZARATH – Poland, Death; BILOCATE – Jordan, Black/Death/Doom; TRAUMA – Poland, Death; FRAILTY – Latvia, Doom/Death; DIABOLICAL – Sweden, Death/Thrash; OBTEST – Lithuania, Pagan; HEAVEN GREY – Latvia, Doom; LUCTUS – Lithuania, Thrashing Black; LEPROUS – Norway, Progressive; CROCELL – Denmark, Death; STRANGER AEONS – Lithuania, Progressive; NAHASH – Lithuania, Occult Black; SAPLES – Lithuania, Old-school Death; Z¼AS – Lithuania, Social Rock/Metal; THE PROWLERS – Italy, Heavy/Progressive; plus sensational SPECIAL GUEST.

Question: Who works the hardest when a debut band hits the road to support their debut album?

    Answer: The van.

Ten days prior to the launch of their upcoming road trek with Pro-Pain and Sworn Enemy, MANTIC RITUAL’s vocalist/guitarist Dan Wetmore checks in from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with an update on one of the hardest working vans in show business:

“Currently, our boner red GMC Savana has over 140,000 on the clock, but sadly the past 20,000 have been done with a new engine. The original motor didn't want to face life on the road with us, so it died just after we purchased the van. The van's blue book value is currently $2,995 in fair condition, but that's too bad because I'd say our van is in worse condition than that. We have major rust issues eating this baby away, the brakes are warped to hell and I think the previous owner intentionally scratched it with various items daily. Still, it's a good looker from twenty feet away. If we added 40,000 more miles to the van, the price would decrease only $120. I think it's because it's really that crappy. Will someone please tell me when the Japanese will make me a nice full size van? Here's an additional tip for the road: When people want to stop for fast food, tell them to grow a pair! Ha, ha! Amen.”

Drummer Adam Haritan responds to the question posed about the band’s formula for success when scheduled for 39 back-to-back-to-back shows with only ONE day off:

“I don't think there's one specific formula that gets us through touring. Each one is different, with new bands to share the road with, new cities to explore, and new friends to meet. We're just doing what we love, so we can hardly call it ‘work.’ I suppose many people look at the rock veterans and envy their schedule, but everyone starts at the bottom and only the best work their way up to achieve the desired arena-rock status. Bands like .38 Special and REO Speedwagon, with their pampered tour schedule, most likely have roots in a small town, jamming to cover songs in their parents' basements like us. Maybe they get extra special treatment for sporting those killer mustaches back in the day. Ben [Mottsman, bassist] was rockin' a mustache a few weeks ago, so we'll see if that has any affect on this tour.”

Executioner, MANTIC RITUAL’s debut album, was named “the best debut album by a band of any musical genre since Metallica’s Kill ‘Em All was released way back in 1983” by Metal Sucks.net. Read the “ultra-enthusiastic 5/5 horns” review in its entirety here.

Check out the cover artwork attached.

Two songs from the album — "Beyond Recognition" and "The Beginning Of The End" are available for streaming on the band's MySpace page (www.myspace.com/threatsignal).

THREAT SIGNAL has just kicked off a headlining tour with THE AGONIST, FLATLINE and THY WILL BE DONE. Dubbed the "Road to Revision", the run will be followed by another headlining trek this July with THE AUTUMN OFFERING, THE AGONIST and SYBREED. During this tour, THREAT SIGNAL will be debuting material from "Vigilance".

Commented vocalist Jon Howard: "This tour is really special to us because we will be debuting five songs from our new album within an hour-long performance. I'm really excited to see how the fans react to the new material. It's a very solid tour package with THE AGONIST, FLATLINE, and THY WILL BE DONE, so the show is strong from beginning to end. This will be a heavy, brutal tour with lots of drinks and good times! We'll have our camera rolling for a DVD so put on your metal face and come rock out."

In a recent interview with Spine Language blog, Jon Howard stated about THREAT SIGNAL's decision to play new, as-yet-unreleased material as part of the band's current live performance, "We feel that we've been playing the same show for too long. We've been playing songs from 'Under Reprisal' for almost five years! The reactions have been amazing so far. Sometimes it feels as if they know the songs already! So with that said we have totally broken the rule. We are playing five songs from the new album, 'Vigilance", and six from 'Under Reprisal'. So you get a good blend of new and old. I think people are craving new shit, so even if they do stand and nod their head, I don't care, I know they are just taking it all in!!"

  • OF THE ARCHAENGEL finishing debut album in Sweden

    - Sleaszy Rider Records, the label which will release OF THE ARCHAENGEL debut “The Extraphysicallia”, noticed that the album release will be delayed since it will be finished in Sweden, on The Cutting Room studio (Amon Amarth, Opeth, Gorgoroth, Pain, Paradise Lost, Chrome Division, etc).

About the collaboration, the vocalist Alex Rodrigues comments: “When we received the news about the delay, of course, we weren't very happy, after all, we had booked the release of “The Extraphysicallia” in a concert with Opeth in São Paulo, and it looked like a wasted opportunity, but when we heard the reason, everything else was meaningless!

We are very happy with the attention that we are receiving from our label, specially when we remember the lack of interest of brazilian labels."

  • Misguided Aggression Announce Tour Dates With Starring Janet Leigh

Misguided Aggression have announced a short run of tour dates with Ironclad Recording artist Starring Janet Leigh. The group is touring in support of their recently released new album "Hatchala", which was released earlier this year through Year of the Sun Records.

The album was recorded at Icehouse Studios by producer Thomas Ireland and mixes bone crushing brutality with head-banging grooves to create the soundtrack to a drunken bar brawl between Lamb of God, Pantera and Meshuggah. Sputnik Music hailed the album as, "One of the neatest records of extreme metal from an upcoming band I've heard in quite a while."

Misguided Aggression recently announced they are selling a full digital download of their entire debut album for $1.99 at www.MisguidedAggression.com. The download includes the album cover and DRM-free MP3s that will allow customers to play their music on virtually any device.

Starring Janet Leigh recently released their Ironclad Recordings debut "Spectrum" on the world,. The band recorded Spectrum in June and September 2007 with Producer/Engineer Greg Dawson of BWC Studios who has previously worked with Mare (Hydrahead), The End (Relapse), Moneen (Vagrant) and many others. Mastering of Spectrum was handled by Alan Douches at West West Side who has worked with Converge, The End, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon, Unearth, and Nile just to name a few. Current fans and new comers to Starring Janet Leigh should expect to hear the band head in a much more death metal direction on Spectrum while still retaining their progressive and experimental roots. Two of California’s most promising young metal acts, thrashers RATTLEHEAD (from LA) and DEVASTATOR (from Sacramento), will be teaming up to tour the country this summer bringing their own brand of metallic mayhem to over 40 cities. The tour, appropriately called "SLAUGHTERING THE MASSES", will be both bands’ first cross-country trek, although each has done successful west coast and regional touring.

Southern California’s RATTLEHEAD have long been a hard-working cornerstone of the LA metal scene. The group have a committed DIY attitude, as witnessed by previous regional touring and the release last year of their own disc, Step Inside for the Slaughter, which they are still promoting.

Northern California’s DEVASTATOR have been having a great year. With the release of the group’s latest demo/EP, Burn The Beast, the group have received major accolades from metal press, radio and fans who recognize the band’s commitment to true metal and their continued progression as players and songwriters. The trio will embark on the tour in support of the EP and plan to finalize a label partner this fall upon completion of the dates so they can begin recording their debut before year’s end.

  • DEATH ANGEL Parts Ways With Drummer

DEATH ANGEL have released the following statement in regards to the departure of longtime drummer Andy Galeon:

“As some of you may have already heard, DEATH ANGEL's long time drummer and original member Andrew Galeon has decided that it is time for him to move on from the band. While we are sad to see him go, we wish him nothing but success. Not only has he been an integral part of DEATH ANGEL from day one, but he's also family and a friend and we will miss him. All the best to you, Brother.

As for the future of DEATH ANGEL, THE SHOW GOES ON! Old friend and long time fixture of the Bay Area metal scene, Will Carroll (SCARECROW, OLD GRANDAD, VICIOUS RUMORS, etc.), will be handling the drum duties for the upcoming local shows in June and the Summer Madness Tour in Europe with KATAKLYSM and KEEP OF KALESSIN. Will's been jamming with us for over a month now and is tearing it up! We look forward to hitting the stage with him very soon. We’ll be performing songs from ‘Frolic…’ and ‘Act III’ that we haven’t played live since back in the day so prepare for a dose of some serious old school thrash!

Thank you all for your continued support over the years. See you on the road this summer!”

Five years after the release of the band's acclaimed comeback album, "The Art Of Dying", and the follow-up effort, "Killing Season", influential Bay Area metallers DEATH ANGEL have just issued a DVD with two full-length concerts filmed in Germany. Entitled "Sonic German Beatdown", the package — which came out on April 17 in Europe (to be released in North America July 28th) — includes footage from the 2007 edition of the Rock Hard Festival and a 2008 performance in Adelsheim. As an added bonus, the set includes a live CD.

    Adrian De Buitléar

As the creators of a live release that is considered to be one of the all-time great concert recordings in the realm of heavy metal (1979's 'Unleashed in the East'), whenever Judas Priest announce a new live album, metalheads worldwide instantly take note. And on 'A Touch of Evil - Live' (released July 14, 2009 via Epic Records), the mighty Priest - which includes singer Rob Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and KK Downing, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Scott Travis - doesn't disappoint.

Focusing primarily on fan-revered album cuts (all previously unreleased in live form on CD), 'A Touch of Evil - Live' features absolutely scintillating renditions of such Priest gems as "Riding on the Wind," "Beyond the Realms of Death," "Dissident Aggressor," "A Touch of Evil," "Eat Me Alive," and the set-closing "Painkiller." Also of note are the first live album appearances of standouts from Priest's critically acclaimed 2008 concept double disc, 'Nostradamus' ("Death" and "Prophecy").

Recorded by Martin Walker and Brian Thorene during the Judas Priest's mammoth 2005 and 2008 world tours, 'A Touch of Evil- Live' also marks the first Priest album that producer Tom Allom has worked on since 1988 (co-producing along with the band). It was such Allom-produced albums as the aforementioned 'Unleashed in the East,' as well as 'British Steel' and 'Screaming for Vengeance' (among others) that made Priest not only one of the premier metal acts, but one of the leading global rock acts.

As heard throughout 'A Touch of Evil - Live,' Priest remain a must-see live act…and a must-hear one, as well.
