June 23nd, 2007	ALICE COOPER Opening Center For Troubled Teens Chris Casacchia of The Business Journal reports: Alice Cooper made a career of singing about rebellion, drug abuse and booze. Now, he spends much of his time trying to get kids to avoid those vices. The 59-year-old Detroit native became a cult hero in the '70s to millions of disillusioned teens, and scared the hell out of twice as many parents. In a way, he's revolutionized that label not for his impressionable lyrics, but for his philanthropic efforts. In late summer, Cooper and longtime golf buddy Chuck Savale plan to break ground on a $7.3 million teen center on the campus of Grand Canyon University, a private Christian college in west Phoenix. "The community right around there is economically challenged, a lot of single-parent homes," said Savale, a youth minister. "It will be a great help for the immediate neighborhoods. " Phoenix's social problems among youth are well documented. The city continually ranks low in student achievement and high in teen pregnancy and high school dropout rates. This is shocking news for all THERION fans - the masters of Opera Metal have recently announced a significant change in the band camp. KATATONIA TO RETURN TO THE US THIS FALL TOUR FEATURING ALL EUROPEAN LINE-UP Sweden's Katatonia will return to headline their first American tour this fall. Kicking of September 4, the tour will make nineteen stops around the country and will feature an all European line-up with Sweden's Scar Symmetry joining up with Finland's Insomnium and Swallow the Sun. EPICA: Dutch Tour Dates Announced Dutch female-fronted symphonic metal band EPICA has announced several headlining dates in its home country for January 2008. EPICA has set "The Divine Conspiracy" as the title of its new album, due August/September via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD, which is currently being mixed by Sascha Paeth, will feature a session appearance by GOD DETHRONED drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek. EPICA has yet to name a full-time drummer following the departure of Jeroen Simons in 2006. Guitarist PETER LINDGREN Quits OPETH; Replacement Announced Peter Lindgren has stepped down from his guitar-wielding duties in OPETH after 16 years. His official statement on the matter reads as follows: "It is with sadness I announce that OPETH and I are going separate ways after almost 16 years. The decision has been the toughest I've ever made but it is the right one to make at this point in my life. "The reason behind this is that I feel that I simply have lost some of the enthusiasm and inspiration needed to participate in a band that has grown from a few guys playing the music we love to a worldwide industry. The love of music has always been, and still is, our motive, but I personally have lost something along the way. The massive amount of touring has taken its toll. "OPETH has worked extremely hard to get where we are right now and in order to persist and maintain the quality of the music, it is necessary that we continue to work hard and always stay focused. But in doing so, it means that we nowadays spend 18 or 19 months on the road and I don't feel the same enthusiasm for the upcoming world tour that I have felt earlier. I have come to a point where I realize I won't be able to give the band 100%, and from both sides this will not be good enough for what OPETH stands for. I will always love playing, listening to, and living music, but I will do it differently from now on. "These years has easily been the best of my life and I will always cherish the memory of what we have experienced together. "I would like to thank the band, our management, record label people, all the bands I've made friends with for everything. Most of all, I would like to thank the fans from the depth of my heart for the support throughout the years. Its name is also very well known outside Poland and, every year, it brings more and more foreign visitors. In March 2007 Metal Mind Productions released "Metalmania 2006" DVD+CD. The DVD includes highlights of memorable performances by such great metal acts as MOONSPELL, ACID DRINKERS, ANATHEMA, NEVERMORE, VESANIA, 1349, HUNTER and HIERONYMUS BOSCH, among others. The CD serves as an introduction to some of the other interesting, if not as popular, acts that performed on the side stage of the festival. The 2007 edition of the festival, which took place on March 24, included appearances by such great bands as TESTAMENT, PARADISE LOST, MY DYING BRIDE, ENTOMBED, and JORN, to name a few. BLAZE BAYLEY's and DARZAMAT's shows were recorded for the future DVD releases.
