- HELL BENT FOR WEATHER:
Pär Holmgren and Pererik Åberg, the two most famous meteorologists
on Swedish national TV (SVT), have put together a band that will perform
at this year's SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL. The band, dubbed SPRIDDA SKURARS
("Scattered Showers" in Swedish), will perform well-known
hard rock classics with re-written lyrics in Swedish based around the
weather and the greenhouse-effect theme. The media interest is huge
and in addition to performing at the festival on Saturday, June 12,
the band will hold a press conference on Friday, June 11 (with former
"Headbanger's Ball" Europe host Vanessa Warwick). The show
will be recorded by Swedish national radio and filmed for a DVD. The
stage show will include a lot of "crazy" surprises, including
smoking guitars, snow machines and film sequences on wide-screen backdrops.
Backing Holmgren and Åberg on stage will be well-known names from
the Swedish rock and metal scene: Lars Chriss (LION'S SHARE) on guitar,
Thomas Broman (HUGHES TURNER PROJECT, ELECTRIC BOYS, JOHN NORUM) on
drums, Sampo Axelsson (GLENN HUGHES, CRAWLEY) on bass/guitar, Dr. Rock
(106.7 RockKlassiker, HIROSHIMA) on drums and Janne Hellman (HIGHWAY
STARS) on keyboards/vocals, plus a "very special secret guest."
A warm-up show took place on Sunday (May 30) at Fredmans in Uppsala,
Sweden.
- CHICAGO HARD ROCK BAND DROP RACES AROUND COUNTRY
CHICAGO - Chicago hard rockers Drop have teamed up with NHRA Championship
Drag Racing and will perform live at several of the organization’s
summer events.
Drop’s first NHRA performance will be July 4 at the Texas Motor
Speedway in Dallas.
“We’re looking forward to these shows because there are
a load of people there who are ready to have a kick ass time,”
said Drop vocalist Russ Stevens. “It’s a rush to perform
in front of such a huge amped up crowd.”
Added guitarist Patrick Davey: “This is a great opportunity for
us to really get our music out there and increase our fan base. When
we play in front of a big crowd we get all revved up, and we really
slam them with everything we have. The more rowdy and crazy the crowd
gets, the more fun we have up on stage.”
Drop focuses heavily on its live shows, which exude musical passion
and energy. “Our live show is powered with lots of raw real energy,
high octane stage presence, and songs that you can’t get out of
your head,” said drummer Jamie Little. “If you like our
new CD, then you’ll really dig our live show.”
Drop’s latest album, “Suckerpunch,” was released May
4 on Dark Star Records/Direct Impact. Musically Drop is nestled snuggly
between classic Black Sabbath heaviness and the sound of modern heavyweights
like Drowning Pool and Godsmack.

- “PRONG” GEAR & MERCH STOLEN IN DALLAS TEXAS
HOLLYWOOD (June 1, 2004) – The band PRONG was scheduled to play
at Trees in Deep Ellum/Dallas. After being directed to a secure parking
lot, the prior to the show, PRONG members retired to their rooms until
load-in. Upon returning to the trailer they found it was broken into.
From Tommy Victor:
“On the morning of May 27 we arrived at a Holiday Inn in downtown
Dallas Texas for our gig that night at Trees in Deep Ellum. The parking
situation was weird for our van and trailer, but we were instructed
by the security guard at the hotel to check out the lot across the street.
We were advised that it was safe. Our road manager, checked it out,
talked to a lot attendant who showed him a spot that was supposedly
under surveillance. When we woke after a few hours of sleep, after driving
all night, we found the trailer broken into. All 6 of our guitars, a
white Gibson SG with a 666 sticker on it, 3 black Schecter C-1 Ex baritone
guitars, 2 Schecter S-1's (a black and a red) 2 Warwick basses (a natural
finish and a black one), a kick drum with a Scorpio Rising cover art
front skin, in case, a floor tom, a rack including an Alesis Adat machine
with 4 Whirlwind direct boxes, 250 assorted Prong T-Shirts, and a box
of 200 Scorpio Rising CD's, were stolen.”

- IMPALED NEWS
The purveyors of gore, more commonly known as IMPALED, have been holed
up in the studio the past month recording their highly anticipated Century
Media debut offering and plan to emerge with their most outlandish work
to date. Their new album, Death After Life, shows the Bay Area unit
in their most vile state, so expect nothing but sheer putrid insanity.
Sean McGrath (vocals, guitars) checks in with the follow studio report,
"Contrary to what you've heard about us isolating ourselves in
hermetically sealed rooms, saving jars of our own urine and refusing
to cut our fingernails, we've been busy the last few weeks recording,
Death After Life, the new IMPALED album. With our new guitarist and
all around nice guy Jason Kocol (Madera Road, Puny Humans, Qoqol, Slaughterhouse
Flies) in tow, we entered Take Root studios in San Francisco on May
7th to begin recording what will no doubt be a turning point for music
and dare I say, humanity as a whole. Trey Spruance (Secret Chiefs 3,
Mr. Bungle) is producing it and Billy Anderson (Cathedral, Mr. Bungle,
L7, Sleep, and many others on his long list of credits) is handling
the engineering duties.
After many sleep-deprived nights we're finally seeing the light at the
end of the tunnel. We're finished recording all the music and vocals
and Trey is now isolated in a hermetically sealed room mixing the album
amongst jars of his own urine. It should be about a week or so until
it's done, depending on how easy it is for him to use his keyboard with
fingernails that have grown to more than six inches in length. Upon
completion we will deliver it to Century Media in a Brinks Truck surrounded
by armed guards, but it'll be awhile before those of you who want to
hear it can. Maybe if you beg we'll put a track up on the website. MAYBE.
You have been warned."

- All Out War has released the following statement:
Due to his career as a high school History teacher and recent events
in his personal life, our singer, Mike Score is no longer able to participate
in All Out War in a capacity that is beneficial to the future of the
band. Because he is the only original member of All Out War, the band
has decided to call it quits. The possibility that Mike and All Out
War may resurface at some point with a new lineup still remains, but
is not likely. The rest of us have formed a new band called Nerve Gas
Tragedy. We are currently writing new material and plan to release a
demo and start playing shows this summer. e would like to thank our
fans for all of their support over the years. e would also like to apologize
to all of the kids who didn't get to see us because of shows that we
cancelled or just didn't show up to. We hope that our unreliable reputation
doesn't carry over into any of our future endeavors.

- This is a VERY important update about Midwest Metalfest!
THE DATE FOR THE SHOW HAS CHANGED FROM JUNE 26 TO SATURDAY, AUGUST 14.
All other details (venue, current sponsorship, etc) are currently still
the same.
For the bands especially, I realize that this might be an inconvenience,
since at least a couple of you had already rearranged tour and show
schedules in order to fit MWMF in; I apologize for this. However, I
felt that it was best to move the show back several weeks in order to
maximize promotion time, and to allow me and the rest of my production
team the extra time to handle logistical issues that will ensure a properly
executed fest that will be fun and successful for everyone. I greatly
appreciate your patience with me on this matter, and I hope that the
date change will still allow all of the bands who have confirmed with
me to play this show. I would appreciate reconfirmations from each band
asap. All previously discussed offers still stand.
www.midwestmetalfest.tk
I'd like to let everyone know that the response so far to MWMF has been
overwhelming on my end, with bands and supporters coming out of the
woodwork offering to help make this show a success. Several bands here
in Indiana that were NOT invited to play the show have stepped forward
of their own accord and offered to put together a series of MWMF Preshows
to help promote the MWMF and generate extra preshow capital. 3-4 of
these shows will be set up over June and July and will feature 15-20
bands volunteering their time just to help out their local Metal scene.
As a way to thank these bands for their generosity and support, I've
offered to make these shows Battle of the Bands style shows (crowd/fan
based voting), with the winning band from each show earning one of the
remaining open slots on MWMF. Details, including dates, venues, and
numbers of bands playing each preshow are in planning, and will be announced
once ready. MWMF itself will still be a 20 band, one-day fest style
show. I am waiting on confirmation from a possible headliner; once that
confirmation is definite, they will be announced.
I'd like to thank everyone so far who has gotten involved with MWMF,
and offered their support; these especially include Rick at Jagermeister,
who has generously offered a TON of promotional material to support
the show, X102 (Rob and Jason Lee) for setting me up with the perfect
way to make sure this show gets the radio support it needs and that
Metal gets the radio support it deserves, Pyro at The Complex, and Liz
at Metal Maniacs for offering to support the show on their site and
in their newsletter. The support and help I have been offered have been
far greater than I ever expected to receive for this show, and the best
way I can think of to repay that is by making sure that this show is
done right and kicks the ass of everyone there, and everyone who is
not there. My desire to make sure everything is done right and the show
succeeds is the primary reason for moving the date.
On a final note, I have added a Midwest Metalfest forum to The Foundry,

- KITTIE NARROWLY ESCAPES ELECTROCUTION WHILE FILMING VIDEO
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The members of Kittie narrowly escaped a life-threatening
accident while on location for the shooting of its video, “Into
the Darkness.”
A huge acrylic pool that was to be suspended in the air exploded, sending
600 gallons of water gushing on to the soundstage where the band was
just completing a live segment. The soundstage was full of lights, electrical
equipment, the band’s gear, and a couple dozen people.
Guitarist/vocalist Morgan Lander grabbed her guitar and ran when she
heard the sound of ripping cardboard and an explosion. “I knew
right away what had happened and all I could think of was to get the
hell out of there,” she said. “There were hundreds of thousands
of volts in there, with the lights and the cameras, and I was most concerned
with electrocution.”
Bassist Jennifer Arroyo was in makeup when the accident happened. “I
was just talking to one of the crew saying, ‘Today is gonna be
a crazy day…I just know it,’ and a few minutes later Mercedes
and Morgan come running in telling me what happened,” Arroyo said.
“I was completely amazed when I walked out and looked at the split
and shattered tank, not to mention all the water.”
Once it was deemed safe, drummer Mercedes Lander went back to survey
the damage. “After the power was shut off, I went back to the
studio and found the whole sound stage and my drums in two inches of
water,” said Lander. “I’m just really happy no one
got hurt.”
Once the danger subsided, the two-hour-long hour clean-up process commenced
and the remainder of the shoot went flawlessly.
“Kittie’s an extreme band, we are an extreme crew, and extreme
things happen to extreme people,” said Greg Kaplan, who directed
the video along with his wife, Rafaela Monfradini. “Believe me,
the end result of this video will be a testament to all the hard work
and resiliency that went down this past weekend on set. It was incredible
how everyone from the band to the crew to the label worked together
to salvage our shoot - and, in the end, we did much more than that.
I think the traumatic event led to us all putting a whole lot more passion
and effort into the video.”
Added guitarist Lisa Marx: “The crew was very professional about
it all. They were calm and confident the ‘Grand Rapids incident’
was only a small setback, and were quick to clean up the mess. I was
amazed.”
The video for “Into the Darkness”, will have its world premiere
on MTV2’s “Headbanger’s Ball” on June 19. This
episode will also be hosted by Kittie.
Following the “Headbanger’s Ball” premiere, the video
will then be serviced to other major market and regional video shows.
The single is set for impact on radio on June 29. “Until the End,”
Kittie’s third full-length, will be released July 27 on Artemis
Records.

- THE HAUNTED SIGN WITH CENTURY MEDIA
Swedish thrash metal titans THE HAUNTED have signed a worldwide multiple-album
deal with Century Media Records. The band has already completed work
on their highly anticipated, yet still untitled, fourth album, which
will be released this fall. It will undoubtedly prove once again why
Kerrang! labeled the band as "the single greatest exponents of
balls-out metal in the world." Commented guitarist Anders Björler,
"We are happy to have chosen Century Media for the next couple
of albums. CM is a legendary metal label, and we feel strongly they'll
support us in the best way possible." Phil Hinkle, director of
A&R for Century Media America, added, "It's an honor to be
working with THE HAUNTED, and they make our already outstanding roster
that much more stellar." Leif Jensen, A&R manager for Century
Media Europe, said, "Personally and professionally, we look forward
to leading this great band to full worldwide success. Their time is
now!" Recorded at Gothenburg's famed Studio Fredman (In Flames,
Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy) with co-producers Patrik J. Steen and Fredrik
Nordström and mixed at Denmark's Antfarm Studio by Tue Madsen,
the album features such cuts as "All Against All," "99,"
"Who Will Decide" (featuring a guest appearance by Sick Of
It All vocalist Lou Koller) and "Burnt To A Shell." THE HAUNTED
also have a new addition to the fold, as original vocalist Peter Dolving,
who crushed on the group's genre-defining self-titled debut release,
returns with a vengeance. Regarding Dolving's return and the new album,
Björler said, "It's nice to have Dolving back in the band.
He's energitic, hardworking and had thousands of fresh musical ideas
upon his return. We look forward to what the future will hold for us
as a band. After having recorded this new album, I feel confident it
will work out extremely well. Be on the look out for something really
powerful this fall." THE HAUNTED burst onto the scene in 1998 with
The Haunted, a 12-track assault praised as the Reign In Blood of the
'90s and the only debut album to ever receive album-of-the-year honors
from Terrorizer. After extensive touring, THE HAUNTED returned with
The Haunted Made Me Do It (2000), which held down the number one spot
on the CMJ Loud Rock Radio Chart for four weeks and eventually scored
the band a Swedish Grammy for Best Hard Rock Album. In 2003, THE HAUNTED
unloaded One Kill Wonder and once again sent the metal world into a
frenzy. Fans and media alike responded with unbridled enthusiasm, as
Alternative Press named THE HAUNTED one of the 25 most important bands
in metal, saying that "there's no greater proponent of modern thrash."
The album broke the band's own record on the CMJ Loud Rock chart with
a five-week run at the top; it also earned the group a second Swedish
Grammy for Best Hard Rock Album. Expect THE HAUNTED to raise the bar
even further with their new album, hereby cementing their legacy as
the leading European metal band of today. http://www.the-haunted.com

- KITTIE NAMES “INTO THE DARKNESS” AS FIRST SINGLE FROM
UPCOMING RELEASE
LONDON, Ontario – Kittie has selected “Into the Darkness”
as the first single from its upcoming release, “Until the End.”
A video for “Into the Darkness” will be shot later this
month in New York City. The husband and wife team of Greg Kaplan and
Rafaela Monfradini (Everytime I Die, Avenged Sevenfold) will direct
the video.
“We all really wanted a video that would contrast the upbeat nature
of the song,” said guitarist/vocalist Morgan Lander. “We
chose to work with Greg Kaplan and Rafaela Monfradini because I think
they really saw eye to eye with our vision and understood the statement
and what the song is saying lyrically.”
The video is set to be very dark and will incorporate dream-like imagery
representing suffering, loneliness and the unknown, reflecting the lyrics
of the song.
“Into the Darkness'” is set for impact on radio on June
21. “Until the End,” Kittie’s third full-length, will
be release July 27 by Artemis Records.

- EIGHTEEN VISIONS REVEAL THEIR OBSESSION
HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW ALBUM IN STORES JUNE 15
BAND ADDED TO WARPED TOUR LINEUP
On June 15th, Eighteen Visions will release its highly anticipated new
album OBSESSION. Produced by Mudrock (Godsmack, Avenged Sevenfold),
OBSESSION was recently dubbed one of the "20 Albums You Have To
Hear in 2004" by Metal Hammer.
The Orange County quintet (vocalist James Hart, guitarists Keith Barney
and Ken Floyd, bassist Mick Morris and drummer James Shrout) are currently
touring in support, tearing up stages on a string of shows featuring
From Autumn To Ashes and Atreyu. On June 25th, Eighteen Visions will
join the Warped Tour, amplifying a lineup that includes the likes of
Bad Religion, Good Charlotte, Thursday, Taking Back Sunday and dozens
more.
OBSESSION is the follow-up to Eighteen Visions' acclaimed 2002 release
Vanity, which CMJ called "the quintessential metalcore record of
the year." The record's blast-furnace edge and blistering lead
single/"Headbanger's Ball" staple "You Broke Like Glass"
garnered ink in the pages of Alternative Press and Revolver and drew
rave reviews planet-wide. The group took the album to the road, touring
all across the U.S. and Europe with bands such as Lamb of God, Strung
Out, Terror and Everytime I Die.
When the tour ended, Eighteen Visions returned home road-tightened and
eager to redefine its focus. The result is OBSESSION, an album that
perfectly blends their hardcore roots with raw, melodic rock & roll
flavorings. From "Crushed" and "This Time" to "Tower
of Snakes" and lead single "I Let Go," the metal-bending
disc finds the band revealing a depth beyond the scope of their past
three releases (Until The Ink Runs Out, Lifeless, Vanity).
Formed by Hart and Floyd in 1995, Eighteen Visions quickly made their
mark on Orange County's fertile hard music scene with sound and style
all their own. Though rooted in metal, the band refused to be limited
by the genre's narrow confines and went on to develop a diehard international
following on the strength of three explosive albums and a live show
famous for whipping audiences into a mosh pit frenzy. With OBSESSION,
Eighteen Visions retains the key elements of its speaker-shredding signature
sound while revealing a range that broadens with each listen.
Eighteen Visions recently wrapped a tour with HIM and are currently
supporting From Autumn To Ashes and Antreyu. They'll open for The Used
in Rhode Island, followed by series of dates with Fear Before The March
of Flames and then 15 Warped Tour shows. Don't miss your chance to experience
Eighteen Visions live.

MORE DATES TO BE CONFIRMED
- CRISIS manage to once again offer another true original full of head-spinning
songwriting complexity. Fully showcasing the band’s (dis)harmonic
balance of dark art metal and experimental hardcore the music implores
relentless waves of primal energy and unmitigated brutality! The result
is a cathartic sonic experience fully embraced by the apocalyptic lyrics
of Karyn Crisis, who once again, delivers an impressive array of contrasting
and insanely captivating unique vocals!
The band is also confirmed for the Soulfly/Ill Nino tour that begins
end of July. And the video should be airing at Headbanger's Ball and
Uranium very shortly.

- It has now been four years since the release of “Amor Fati”,
and Peccatum is now back as a duo. PZ has left the band and devoted
himself entirely to Source of Tide. Meanwhile, Ihsahn has written the
last chapters of the legendary Emperor story, while Ihriel has released
the highly acclaimed album “Iter.Viator” (Jester Records/The
End), and according to Kerrang!: “gave women in extreme music
a name by doing it alone with her Star of Ash solo project”. With
“Lost in Reverie”, PECCATUM push the envelope of musical
crossbreeds even further.
Blurring the lines of organic performances and electronics, they indulge
into delightfully bizarre sonic landscapes and shed new visions of light
to dark music.

- SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE's "Temporary Psychotic State" is
a two track EP featuring over 17 minutes of classic progressive rock.
Built upon layers of orchestral arrangements, psychedelic passages and
rocking post rock blasting, this is a truly dynamic release that will
appeal to fans of extreme metal as well to those who enjoy edgy, dark
progressive rock. The release features a stunning line-up including
Paul Khur (November's Doom), JWW (Agalloch), Tino LoSicco (Epoch of
Unlight), a guest appearance by Andy Winter (Winds) and an ensemble
of strings, keyboards and folklore female vocals.

- The third album from WINDS,"The Imaginary Direction of Time,"
creates an uncompromising combination of classical, progressive and
dark metal music with intricate sounds and harmonies. Following in the
vein of the previous albums with philosophically charged lyrics, the
new album takes WINDS to new heights both in the lyrical and musical
field. This is without a doubt the band’s most elegant album to
date, with a new and added dimension of intricacy due to the increased
collective effort in the compositional process. Through carefully designed
arrangements and a world class production this is one of the most complete
and unique releases for the year.

- TUSKA 2004 FRENCH BAND CONFIRMED & CLUB PROGRAM READY
Tuska Open Air Metal Festival, 16.-18.7.2004
Kaisaniemi Park, Helsinki, Finland.
Tuska Festival's cooperation with French cultural organization, Assecarm,
got off to a good start last year. Although France is not the first
country that comes to mind when thinking about metal, Burgul Torkhain,
who performed at Tuska 2003, proved everyone in attendance that the
French know a thing or two about metal music. Just like last year, this
year's French Tuska-performer was decided in a band contest held at
the Rotonde Festival. The jury of the contest was lead by Tuska-Promoter
Jouni Markkanen.
The winner of the contest is D.S.K. who play brutal death metal along
the lines of Napalm Death and Dying Fetus. D.S.K. was formed in 1997
and their discography consists of several self-releases and compilation
appearances. Their debut album entitled From Birth is soon to be released
on Thundering Records. At Tuska 2004, D.S.K. performs on the Hellsinki
Stage on Friday the 16th, at 15:45.
The program for Tuska 2004-evening clubs has also been finalized. This
year we have clubs at three different venues; the classic Tavastia,
Stella Star from Thursday through Sunday and newcomer Botta on Friday
and Saturday. A different policy applies to the clubs this year, tickets
for each show are sold in advance through Tiketti at 6E each. More specific
running order for the clubs can be viewed at www.tuska-festival.fi.
Like previous years, each night at Kaisaniemi Park is concluded by a
performance by the infamous Sirkus Tapaturma.
Up-to-date information about Tuska can be found from our official site,

- NAPALM DEATH – sign with Century Media Records
Century Media Records is proud to officially announce that British extreme
metal legends NAPALM DEATH have signed a worldwide deal (excluding Japan).
The first release under the new alliance will be the follow-up album
to the "Leaders Not Followers"-EP, the long-awaited collection
of covers, entitled "Leaders Not Followers 2". The album also
features an appearance on two songs by Jim Whiteley, the band's original
bass player on the B-side of the legendary "Scum" album. Bassist
Shane Embury explains Whiteley's surprising guest-appearance: "Well
basically Jim and I have remained friends over the years and have shared
many nights out in Birmingham and I thought it would be a good idea
to get him playing on a couple of tracks for fun as well as for personal
reasons really as I think his input into the band in the early days
was sorely overlooked, his lyrics on the b-side of "Scum"
are for me unique..."
Mark "Barney" Greenway comments the new home of the band:
"I'm very happy to announce that NAPALM DEATH has signed a recording
deal with Century Media. We did heavily consider releasing albums ourselves,
but it would've been too much for any of us to handle at this point
in time. It was important for us to be able to rely on a label, for
once, that would not only potentially pay royalties due, but also that
had an all-round support network where we didn't have to always rely
on ourselves for everything in terms of pushing the band forward. I
have been proved horribly wrong over putting faith in labels many times
in the past, but it seems that the current staff at Century Media have
assured us that they will do their utmost to help us in all areas. Here's
hoping that spirit continues."
The staff at Century Media Records was excited to learn the news about
the signing, since various of the staff members have not only been fans
of the unique and visionary music of the noise pioneers for a long time,
but also agree with their strong political beliefs.
"Leaders Not Followers 2" will include the following covers
1) Cryptic Slaughter "Lowlife"
2) The Offenders "Face Down In The Dirt"
3) Devastation "Devastation"
4) Hellhammer "Messiah"
5) Anti-Cimex "Victims of a Bomb Raid"
6) Wehrmacht "Fright Night"
7) Discharge "War's No Fairytale"
8) Siege "Conform"
9) Master "Master"
10) Insanity "Fire Death Fate"
11) Kreator "Riot of Violence"
12) Anti Cimex "Game of the Arseholes"
13) Massacre "Clangor Of War"
14) Attitude Adjustment "Dope Fiend"
15) Die Kreuzen "I'm Tired"
16) Sepultura "Troops of Doom"
17) The Dayglo Abortions "Bedtime Story"

- BLOODBATH – New album “Nightmares Made Flesh“ coming
soon!
Two years after their highly acclaimed killer album ”Resurrection
Through Carnage“, Swedish death metal allstars BLOODBATH have
finished recordings of their new piece of rotten flesh called “Nightmares
Made Flesh“ with producer Jens Bogren in Ørebro, Sweden’s
Studio Kuling (Katatonia, Vomitory, Lambretta, etc.).
BLOODBATH went through line-up changes when Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)
left the band but their new vocalist is no one other than the great
Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain), while Dan Swanö (Nightingale,
Edge Of Sanity, etc) left his place behind the drum kit and is now handling
guitar duties. The new drummer is Martin "Axe" Axenrot (Witchery,
etc.).
“We promise you a fukking brutal and varied piece of work with
especially outstanding performances by the new members Axe and Tägtgren,
proving Bloodbath is no longer a only tribute to death metal; it's death
metal's very own elite“, the band comments on the new material.
“Nightmares Made Flesh“ will be released in late Summer
/ early Autumn 2004 through Century Media Records and will feature the
following songs:
Outnumbering The Day
Year Of The Cadaver Race

Norway’s extraordinary and progressive outfit EXTOL parted ways
with Christer Espevoll (guitars) and Ole Børud (guitars &
vocals).
Peter Espevoll (vocals), David Husvik (drums) and John Robert Mjaland
(bass) commented on the departure during a press-conference in Oslo.
Peter: “My brother Christer and Ole decided to leave the band
a couple of months ago. At first it came as a shock, although we understand
their reasons for leaving, but still it was sad to lose two great bandmembers,
one just after the other. (...) After 10 years of playing we reached
a point where we could try to bring the band to the next level, but
neither Christer nor Ole felt they could make the commitment it required
(...) so instead now, they invest their time and energy elsewhere, with
our blessing of course.“
David: “Yeah, I mean, their parting was at one point very sad
for obvious reasons, but there was never any hard feelings or ill will
between any of us through the process. We are still the best of friends,
and that’s a good thing really. We wish them all the best, and
I know they wish the same for us.“
Nevertheless, EXTOL already sought out new members to replace Ole and
Christer. Both of them will still do the upcoming shows
An official statement revealing the names will be made later in July.
The plan is to enter the studio in late summer to release the new album
early 2005, followed by extensive touring through Europe and USA supporting
the new record. Expect another outstanding piece of music!

- AFTER ALL RECORD NEW ALBUM "THE VERMIN BREED"
On May 14th, After All completed the recording of the band's fifth full
length album: "The Vermin Breed". The album is set for release
this fall.
Like its predecessor "Mercury Rising", "The Vermin Breed"
was recorded and mixed by veteran producer Harris Johns, at the Spiderhouse
Studio in Berlin, Germany. Harris is best known for producing classic
bands such as Voivod, Helloween and Kreator. More recently he worked
on DVD-recordings for Slipknot and Sodom.
"The Vermin Breed" will contain 9 new tracks and some bonus
material. Two of the songs - "Reasonable Doubt" and "Downward"
- were already presented live several times, during last year's European
campaigns with Anthrax and
Overkill.
The new record clearly displays the growth of the band, both live and
in the studio. The musical direction After All introduced on "Mercury
Rising" has now been finetuned. That makes "The Vermin Breed"
one sheer thrash attack...
- Stoke-on-Trent’s old school thrashers LONG TIME DEAD are releasing
their debut album “Universal Cry For Help” at the end of
May. The album will be officially released at their album launch party
at the Sugarmill in Hanley on Saturday 29th May. As a special “thank
you” to all their fans who have supported them over the last few
years, the album will be available on the night for only £5.00.
Long Time Dead will be performing a headline set at the show, with support
from local metal acts BURNT and MINUS ONE. A full UK tour will shortly
follow, with European dates in the pipeline for 2005. The album was
produced and engineered at Framework studios, Birmingham by Simon Reeves
and Paul “Bag” Siddens, who have recorded CHARGER, NAPALM
DEATH and RAZORWIRE amongst many others.

- Following the awesome response to their 2003 debut album “League
Of The Godless”, RAZORWIRE will be spending this summer continuing
to tour their current album as well as writing new material. At the
beginning of this year, RAZORWIRE recorded two new tracks- “Dipole”
and “Lock Down”. Hopefully both tracks will be included
on their second album. As a taster “Dipole” was released
this month on the Psychophonic Records compilation “Kill Your
Management Vol.5”. A video has also been shot for the new song
and will be unleashed at the end of the summer to hype up the bands
follow up album. Be sure to catch RAZORWIRE live this summer. The next
stint of the tour kicks off at THE UNDERWORLD, Camden, London on Fri
4th June.

- After last years hugely successful tour supporting (ex-Iron Maiden)
BLAZE, FOURWAYKILL are set to headline the second stage at this years
BLOODSTOCK FESTIVAL in Derby on Saturday 4th September. The band have
just released their debut mini-album “24 Hours To Die”,
and have also shot a promotional video for the title track which will
hopefully be broadcasted on the metal friendly music channels soon.
The video is available for free download from their website

- Nottingham’s brutal hardcore metallers HEADHUNGLOW are currently
putting the finishing touches to their debut album “All Under
These Wings Shall Fall” which will be released sometime this summer.
The band have confirmed a handful of gigs, and intend to announce an
extensive tour when the album is near completion.

- MOTORHEAD SET TO UNLEASH FIERY ALBUM 'INFERNO' ON METAL-IS/SANCTUARY
RECORDS ON JUNE 22, 2004
'INFERNO' WILL BE AN ENHANCED CD WHERE FANS CAN SIGN UP FOR MOTORHEAD
INTERNET SERVICE
The Motorhead legend roars on in 2004 with the release of the new studio
album 'Inferno' on June 22 on Metal-Is Records, a division of the Sanctuary
Records Group. It's the first album of new, skin-peeling material from
vocalist/bassist Lemmy, guitarist Philip Campbell and drummer Mikkey
Dee since 2002's 'Hammered' and it's the first Motorhead release since
last year's critically acclaimed, five-disc, career-spanning box set
'Stone Deaf Forever!'
Guitar legend Steve Vai makes a guest appearance on two tracks.
'Inferno' is an appropriate title for Motorhead's latest skull-grinding,
internal-organ-liquefying album. The 12 tracks are: "Terminal Show,"
"Killers," "In the Name of Tragedy," "Suicide,"
"Life's a Bitch," "Down on Me," "In the Black,"
"Fight," "In the Year of the Wolf," "Keys to
the Kingdom," "Smiling Like a Killer" and "Whorehouse
Blues."
"This album is real musicians playing real music. There were no
rules," Lemmy says.
It's not easy for the hard-living, fun-loving rock icon to pick out
favorites on 'Inferno.' Every song is special and important.
"Music is very personal. It's just like sex in that way,"
says Lemmy.
Vai's blazing guitar performances on "Terminal Show" and "Down
on Me" were the result of a casual social encounter with Lemmy
at the famous Rainbow Bar & Grill in Hollywood.
"I was going in and he was coming out and we ran into each other.
I told him we were recording and invited him down to sit in. He took
me up on the offer," Lemmy says.
Motorhead has a distinctive musical style -- nobody grinds out a furious
rock 'n' roll hybrid of heavy metal and punk like this band. But Lemmy
always has a few tricks up his sleeve, and Motorhead albums tend to
have a song or two that veer away from their trademark sound. On 'Inferno'
the honor belongs to the slinky "Whorehouse Blues," appropriately
drenched in bluesy acoustic guitar and harmonica.
"I like to surprise people," says Lemmy.
Motorhead's colorful history is well known. Lemmy -- born Ian Kilmister
-- was a former roadie for Jimi Hendrix and eventually joined the space-rock
band Hawkwind. Lemmy wrote and sang Hawkwind's big 1972 U.K. hit "Silver
Machine." Upon exiting Hawkwind after four years, he formed Motorhead
in 1975, naming the group after the last song he wrote for Hawkwind.
Motorhead's aggressive, uncompromising, balls-out musical style (and
personal lifestyle philosophy) shook the music world. Let's be blunt
here: Motorhead invented speed metal. But the great thing about Motorhead
is that they appealed to both punks and head-banging metalheads.
"We sounded like punk but looked like metal. I always felt we were
more punk than metal anyway. I call it rock 'n' roll, but if I had to
go down one side or the other I'd say we had more in common with punk
than we have in common with heavy metal. We came out at the same time
as the punks," Lemmy says.
The band's self-titled official debut album was released in 1977. Motorhead
quickly built a rabid following through killer live shows and albums
that we able to translate that power. 1981's legendary live album 'No
Sleep 'til Hammersmith' rocketed to # 1 on the U.K. album charts. Another
notable album in Motorhead's canon is 1991's critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated
'1916,' which was nominated for Best Metal Performance. Motorhead earned
a second Grammy nomination in 2000 for Best Metal Performance with a
tribute to Metallica's "Enter Sandman" on the 'ECW: Extreme
Music' album.
As a live act, Motörhead is untouchable. Few scenes in heavy metal
match Lemmy on stage -- standing his ground, head tilted slightly upward
as he growls ferociously into his microphone and unleashes thunder from
his Rickenbacker. Campbell's screaming sonic overload guitar completes
the roaring string section, while Dee, surely one of the most inventive
and brutal drummers you ever heard, drives along like a locomotive.
Live, and on CD and on video, there is no one like them.
Motorhead will promote 'Inferno' with yet another world tour this year.
Ashes and rubble will be left in Lemmy, Cambell and Dee's wake.
'Inferno' is an enhanced CD. The enhancement will allow fans to sign
up for Motorhead Internet service at www.motorheadrules.com.

- DOKKEN RETURNS WITH NEW STUDIO ALBUM 'HELL TO PAY' ON SANCTUARY RECORDS
ON JULY 13, 2004
MELODIC HARD ROCK ON 'HELL TO PAY' REMINISCENT OF CLASSIC SOUND
If the group Dokken ever heard the famous quote by Andy Warhol that
everybody gets 15 minutes of fame, it seems someone forgot to tell them.
After 20 years the group continues to have a major recording contract
as well as a loyal fan base allowing them to "still follow their
bliss and make a living at it" as singer and founder of the group
Don Dokken puts it. The group is slated for a July 13, 2004, release
for their latest recording 'Hell to Pay' on Sanctuary Records.
"I used to think if you had talent that's all you needed to survive
the music business. After all these years I've come to realize you need
an equal amount of luck!" says Don.
The 12 songs on 'Hell to Pay' include: "The Last Goodbye,"
"Don't Bring Me Down," "Escape," "Haunted,"
"Prozac Nation," "Care for You," "Better Off
Before," "Still I'm Sad," "I Surrender," "Letter
to Home," "Can You See" and "Care for You (Unplugged
Version)."
The group kicks off yet another world tour June 17 to promote their
new CD "and have some fun" as drummer "Wild" Mick
Brown puts it. Unlike some of their peers, the group has survived member
changes, drugs, alcohol and egos, almost! Qualities that seemed to be
almost mandatory during the '80s and '90s for a rock band. They have
been often lumped into the title of hair band, even though the group
had already been established as a multiplatinum arena act by 1983. Their
videos were a staple in the early days of the then fledgling MTV and
continued on into the late '80s.
"We've always taken our music very seriously. But I think it's
healthy when you can be self-deprecating," says Don, commenting
about a recent show. "We were headlining a concert last summer
with a lot of other '80s bands. When we arrived in town we heard a radio
commercial that the show was being promoted as a hair ball fest. We
bought a can of extra-hold Aqua Net and put our hair as high as we could
get it. When we hit the stage we were laughing so hard at each other
we barely made it through the first song. We've never considered ourselves
a pop band, we've had commercial hits but we've always prided ourselves
for our heavy edge."
Dokken has shared the stage with rock acts such as AC/DC, Metallica,
Aerosmith, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Kiss, Scorpions, as well as Bon
Jovi, just to name a few. "When people ask us who we've toured
with we just say EVERYBODY!" says Don.
The band hit stadium status in 1988, playing in front of over a million
fans in just five weeks. Their current LP at the time 'Back For the
Attack' had sold over 1 million copies in just 21 days. It seemed Dokken
was on the verge of superstardom. But like so many other bands that
have come before and after them Dokken broke up in 1989.
"It's tough to go from nothing to everything and no one to guide
you or say stop. We made millions and spent millions but none of it
on therapy," says Don dryly.
In 1994 the legendary A&R man John Kalodner moved to Sony Music.
Kalodner has been credited for reviving many groups' careers with similar
breakup problems most notably Aerosmith. Even though it was at the height
of the Seattle grunge sound phase and groups like Dokken were out of
vogue Kalodner offered Dokken a recording contract on the condition
the group had to be original members.
"I hadn't spoken to the other members in five years but I made
the call anyway to the other members. I figured we'd had five years
to grow up," says Don laughingly. The group released the appropriately
titled 'Dysfunctional' in 1995 selling 250,000 copies which by the mid
'90s was considered by industry standards very respectable. Dokken was
really happy and excited, but just as they were on the verge of releasing
a second single, filming a video, starting a world tour and "taking
it all the way," as Don puts it, the baggage from their past reared
its ugly head, and again the group began to unravel. Soon after guitarist
George Lynch again left the group. "It was really a shame,"
says "Wild" Mick Brown. "We were on a roll! It seems
lead singers and guitarists are always at odds, it's been going on since
before the Beatles."
"Don Dokken on surviving fame."
"I think it should be mandatory that all recording contracts have
the stipulation that their artists go to marriage counseling together
at least once a month."
The group signed to CMC International/Sanctuary Records in 1995 and
continued to forge forward. With new guitar wizard Jon Levin on board
the group has "gone back to their roots," as he puts it, with
'Hell to Pay,' their sixth CD for Sanctuary. "We just recorded
what we liked not what's in fashion musically this week," says
Levin.
In the last year between recording their new CD Dokken has performed
with a crop of new groups such as Sevendust, Trapt, Eve 6 and Staind.
"It's really a trip when a new generation of fans knows all the
words to your songs even though some of them were written 15 years ago
or more. It puts a big smile on your face and reminds us that good songs
can stand the test of time," says Dokken bassist Barry Sparks on
performing with Staind to a soldout audience of 10,000.
Dokken exploded out of the boiling hard rock/heavy metal scene in Los
Angeles in the early 1980s. 1983's 'Breaking the Chains,' with its catchy
title track, set the stage for Dokken becoming the most dominant creative
and commercial force in the world of melodic hard rock. 'Tooth and Nail,'
'Under Lock and Key' and 'Back For the Attack' all became platinum selling
smashes and the live 'Beast From the East' went gold. Songs like "Alone
Again," "Just Got Lucky," "Into the Fire,"
"In My Dreams," "Unchain the Night," "Dream
Warriors," "Burning Like a Flame" and "Heaven Sent"
are among the genre's finest.
Not only has Dokken survived and kept their loyal fans in a time when
people's tastes change as fast as Britney Spears' wardrobe, they have
been embraced by a whole new generation of rock fans. They say a cat
has nine lives and it seems Dokken is enjoying more than a few as well.

- After years of silence, THRONED is back with a new MCD.
It's titled "...There where the moon rises" and contains four
Black Metal chants.
In 1994 a black-metal band, without an official name, is born, Throned
is the singer and Armseel the drummer and they prepare tracks for 2
never published CDs due to the unexpected split of the group. For that
reason Throned, in 1995, decides to found a solo-project, always with
the collaboration of Armseel playing drums.
We must wait until 1997 for the debut of Throned, with the first MCD
"Watching the Lands of Purity", released by the label BTOD
and featuring four tracks of black-metal with symphonic parts.
In 1998 Throned records a new track called "Nemthorsted" for
the compilation cd vol. VI of BTOD label, released the following year.
And the kind of music is "pure Black Metal".
Between 1995 and 1998, Throned writes other tracks that, for personal
reasons, remain unreleased. Then subsequently completed and finally
recorded in 2003 at the Twilight Studio. A new MCD is ready, it's called
"...There Where the Moon rises" featuring four tracks of "pure
black-metal". For this MCD Throned, always writer and composer
of lyrics and music, collaborates with Equinoxe (Mystical Fullmoon)
as drummer and Astraghon (The True Endless) as singer.
