July 23rd, 2009	RAVENLAND posts new song featuring ex-Theatre of Tragedy guitarist - RAVENLAND gothic metallers posted two new songs online from their forthcoming album, “...and A Crow Brings Me Back”. The tracks are "...till Death Unite Again” and "Velvet Dreams”. The last one features Tommy Lindal (ex-Theatre of Tragedy). The songs are available at the band's MySpace profile, which was recently updated with a new layout based on the album artwork. “We decided to post two songs of “...And A Crow Brings Me Back” so the fans can listen a little bit more of our album. VADER guitarist/vocalist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek shares his thoughts on the upcoming trek: “Metal always was and still needs to be a brotherhood. All we were doing [in the past] to support the music and the scene was cooperating with other bands. Natural selection decides if a band is really dedicated or if it's just an episode. Not much has changed today, actually. Even if the so-called ‘metal music business’ changed some rules, there will still be those who play with passion and those who want success. It is not us who wanna be ‘a judge,’ so we always try to tour with bands we have a good relationship with. A good time and a friendly atmosphere is important for all of us. I only hope that everybody will enjoy the tour and will come away with good lessons from it... like we in VADER always do. Deciding on a set list is always a problem. With every new album, the problem grows bigger and bigger. I decide the set list and I'm always confused. Usually, I try to mix some of old VADER hits with new stuff. The set might be different and depends on the conditions. For the upcoming tour through the USA and Canada, we're gonna make the set slightly different from our shows in Poland and Western Europe. I also asked our fans about their favorite VADER songs. It may help me make a choice. I wish we could play all of our new songs, but it is not possible. I think we'll do 5 pieces from Necropolis and mix them in with some old VADER. The veterans and also the new ‘in-VADERs’ will find something interesting for sure! East Coast Canadian Dates Postponed Kicking off their Natural Disaster tour last week at the NXNE music fest in Toronto, Fattooth were in preparation for a kung pow fury to storm the Canadian East Coast, but due to scheduling conflicts that stretch of the tour has been postponed. "We're really bummed out to put the eastern leg of the tour on hold, especially since the East Coast fans have been so good to Fattooth." comments Fattooth bassist Buddha. The game was unveiled earlier this month at the illustrious E3 Expo — the Electronic Entertainment Expo — an annual trade show for the computer and video games industry. In Undead Knights, the player is the anti-hero, battling the wrath of fearless enemies to build the nastiest, most irreverent army possible. Your inherently foul-mouthed army and raging metal soundtrack helps you channel your inner anger. If you can deal with the gut-wrenching, smack-talking, fluid-spitting, and limb amputating ways of your battalion, you can embark on your journey of vengeance to defeat the king! TECMO sought a supremely evil soundtrack to coincide with the game’s morbid concept and thus, LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH, along with fellow black metal brigade VALDUR, was called upon to do the unholy deed. “Undead Knights follows a being from hell as he destroys his enemies and turns them into undead soldier-slaves for his army,” reiterated LSOD vocalist Autarch excitedly. “Once the premise of the game was presented to us, it was clear that this rare opportunity provided yet another form of media that could be used to spread our message, without sacrificing the principles and ideology of the band. The big news in the ARCH ENEMY camp is that Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, etc.) has completed the mixing and mastering of the new ARCH ENEMY record, “The Root Of All Evil”. This special release features a selection of completely re-recorded songs from the first three ARCH ENEMY albums, “Black Earth”, “Stigmata” and “Burning Bridges”, and will be released via Century Media Records on September 28th in Europe and October 6th in North America. Guitarist Michael Amott comments: “This one took some time to get done, despite the fact that the actual songs were already written a good few years ago! The album was recorded at a few different locations locally here in Sweden - produced by ARCH ENEMY, with Daniel Erlandsson (Drums) handling a lot of the engineering. It was then sent to Andy Sneap in England for the mixing/mastering and I simply can’t stop listening to this since I got the final mixes!” In the light of ARCH ENEMY finding their defining line-up and a bigger worldwide recognition with 2002’s “Wages Of Sin” album, it has been a logical decision to look into updating and upgrading the earlier compositions, to be able to present them in the splendour of a 2009 shape. Regarding further details of the process, Michael Amott adds: “We basically headed down to our rehearsal studio, got reacquainted with the tunes, picked out our favorites and proceeded to give a breath of new life to those early songs, with the idea to have the possibility to re-add them to the live set and follow up with some touring activity! I’m loving hearing these songs with a fresh new sound and performance, everyone in the band did a killer job on it - especially Angela’s vocal performance is astoundingly intense and brutal and it was also cool to hear Sharlee lay down some great bass tracks on the early songs! The production and mix is crushing and heavy as hell - it really makes these old songs shine – it sounds like a brand new thing!”. July 22nd, 2009	20 Buck Spin’s Next Release: Liturgy 20 Buck Spin is proud to announce its next upcoming release.... the debut from Brooklyn transcendental black metal craftsmen Liturgy, entitled Renihilation. Brooklyn, NY’s Liturgy (not to be confused with a Chicago death metal band of the same name) deal in a style of indie black metal steeped in the genre’s most basic foundations of buzzing, dissonant guitars and whirlwind percussion, and yet they demonstrate an acute ability to make the sound firmly their own, both modern and ancient. Liturgy’s unique take on the genre only slightly recalls their NYC friends Krallice and the earlier works of the Norwegian wolves Ulver (particularly their 3rd LP masterwork Nattens Madrigal). In some sense Liturgy represents the seeping of black metal into the consciousness of the indie music world at large. The band claim influences ranging from cult black metal figures Vlad Tepes to Angelo Badalamenti to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, all of whom can be distantly identified in Liturgy’s approach. Renihilation is the band’s debut LP, following two demo tapes and a 12 inch, Immortal Life. The album weaves intricate waves of dissonant dual guitar riffing and complex blackened harmonics between main songwriter Hunter Hunt-Hendrix and second guitarist Bernard Gann. The strange tonalities they seamlessly create providing layers of eerie dimension over which Hendrix’s tortured howls battle to be heard. The ultra-chaotic yet superbly minimalist drumming of Greg Fox (also of Dan Deacon and Teeth Mountain), utilizing only a kick, snare and crash symbols, adds a dose of old, raw punk/grind to the mix. Several intros and interludes consisting of vocal pieces and drones break the album up into distinct sections. Renihilation was recorded and mastered at the Thousands Caves Of Menegroth with Colin Marston of Krallice at the helm. The purposely low-res minimalist artwork recalls the work of German photographer Thomas Ruff in both aesthetic and intent. A photograph of a total eclipse, a massive celestial event, its aura being subdued and defeated by the void the low resolution of the image leaves in its wake – an apt analogy for Liturgy’s ecstatic sonic experiments.
