We're very happy with this tour and it's definitely the best tour we have done so far in our career. All three bands delivered amazing shows every night and everyone were super-cool people to hang out with! We definitely made some lifelong friends on this tour. We did a total of 27 shows all across North America and all shows were sold out or close to sold out. Once again Alex (Necrodemon) Koch will be bashing the skins and he has gone a step further. He will also produce the new album. The drum parts are currently being written to the completed guitar parts for the pre-production of the new album & everything is coming together quite well and sounding awesome. The official recording of the album has been scheduled for July 2008 and Alex will be flying over to Australia to supervise and engineer all the recording sessions at Sydney's Vitriol recording studio. Brothers Schaaf (Chuck and Phil) formed Deadbird in 2002. Chuck had been playing in Little Rock's own Rwake at the time but decided to head back to Fayetteville, AR to start Deadbird with his brother. They released The Head and the Heart in 2005 on Codebreaker/Earache (originally self-released in 2003). Many tours and a few lineup changes later saw Deadbird completed their second full-length Twilight Ritual. This was with the help of new bassist Reid Raley (also in Rwake). Firmly rooted in the underground heavy sound coming out of Arkansas these days (see also Shitfire, Seahag, etc.), Deadbird's strong metallic riff-centric edge manages to sneak hardcore and punk elements, lots of Southern rock melody and even a few vocal harmonies into their tracks. For immediate release: Artist JOSHUA EMERICK, who has previously worked with THE BEATLES, CKY, SOCIAL DISTORTION and SONIC YOUTH, has created a DEATH ANGEL themed comic book in collaboration with the bands members. The following is an excerpt from an interview conducted with the renowned comic and toy oriented magazine, WIZARD: “WIZARD: So how much can you tell me about the DEATH ANGEL project? EMERICK: The DEATH ANGEL project started from when I did the CKY comic book. And what happened was that Darren Miller, who was the lead singer for CKY, also had a death metal band and the record label he's working through let me know that DEATH ANGEL was doing a comic book. And I was like, ‘Yeah! I'll do it!’ cause a lot of my work to date has been a lot of rock pieces. I've done a lot of artwork for the BEATLES' magazines, for SONIC YOUTH, SOCIAL DISTORTION, I did CKY's tour shirts and their comic books. WIZARD: In the Death Angel comic, how collaborative was it? How many writers did you have working with you? EMERICK: I brought in the writer that I grew up with. We used to make comics when we were kids and we stayed close friends and he did the CKY book for me. We did a couple things for Cartoon Network for proposals for shows. I kept him on with me when I got a new writer who came in. He's a stand up comedian and he's helping on the book as well. And Dennis Pepa, the bass player [of DEATH ANGEL], he's actually the one I've been talking to the most, though. He's the one we're forming the comic book company with. WIZARD: You mentioned bringing in a comedian. Is the comic going to be like a "Metalocalypse" thing where you're making fun of metal while also celebrating it? EMERICK: Pretty much, yeah. The first series has a lot to do with how music is being taken over by corporate music offices and everything. But when it comes to the one-liners and punch lines, that's where the comedian comes in and adds his flavor to it. WIZARD: So it's a struggle with the corporatization of rock and roll? EMERICK: Yeah, what happens is since they're called DEATH ANGEL, we have the Angel of Death—the Grim Reaper—come in and he knocks them all off. And somehow they go to an alternate universe. It's kind of like "Akira," based in the future where everything's a mess: a post-apocalyptic setting. And there's the main villain, Ludwig, and ironically he's death. He's the one controlling this thing called the "Sonic Beatdown," that's one of DEATH ANGEL’s new singles that they released. I guess it's the B note that he's controlling and using to take control of the world pretty much. And Death Angel is going to come in and try to make things better and help people out. WIZARD: Help people out by rocking? EMERICK: [Laughs] Pretty much, yeah! [Laughs] They're pretty much going to get together as a team and they're gonna make the "Sonic Beatdown" instrument turn against the leader and try to reverse everything and try to bring harmony back to the world. There's all kinds of mech robots, there's machines that are half robot, half human, half animal. WIZARD: That sounds pretty awesome! EMERICK: Yeah, the writers did a really good job on this one. I'm really happy with it and I'm halfway done with the book now with penciling and inking. Sirenia MySpace Page Sirenia Official Website Guitarist Michelle Meldrum of metal band Meldrum passes away Hollywood - On May 18, Michelle Meldrum, leader of the band Meldrum and former Phantom Blue guitarist, was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank in critical condition. She passed away late afternoon Wednesday, May 21, 2008 as a result of a cystic growth on her brain that had restricted oxygen and blood flow to her brain rendering her brain dead. Meldrum had just completed writing and recording the bands soon to be released album with drummer Gene Hoglan, along with the new lineup Michele Madden (vocals) and Laura Christine (bass). The surviving band members plan to release the album later this year in tribute to their fallen band-mate. Those who knew Michelle recognize that she lived every moment for the music, and was regarded as both an exceptional guitarist and a nurturer by her associates, friends, family and son. Meldrum, 39 is survived by her parents and three year old son, Jake Thomas. Her family and band members appreciate all the support that has been shown over the past few days through this trying time. A memorial tribute benefit will be announced in the following weeks. Michelle Meldrum was born on Sept 28, 1968 in Detroit, Michigan to a family of musicians and actors. At 13, Meldrum moved to Los Angeles, California and started her career in music by forming the thrash metal band WARGOD with drummer Gene Hoglan (DARK ANGEL, DEATH, and STRAPPING YOUNG LAD). When WARGOD disbanded Meldrum continued her search for a band and become both co-founder and lead guitarist in all girl metal/rock band PHANTOM BLUE. PHANTOM BLUE released their self-titled debut album on Shrapnel Records as well as Roadrunner Records, and eventually landed a deal with major label Geffen. Once PHANTOM BLUE disbanded after a successful run at fame, Michelle Meldrum moved to Sweden and formed her current band MELDRUM. After many triumphant tours with such acts as MOTÖRHEAD and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, she reunited with Hoglan in 2006. Hoglan had appeared as a special guest on the MELDRUM album prior and played several events.
