  • CELESTIA’s long delayed “Apparitia” reissue is currently being pressed, and there will be a release date for sometime in December. In addition, Celestia’s long awaited sophomore effort, Frigidiis Apotheosia: Genèse de l'Abstinence,  will see the light of day sometime in 2007 on Paragon and Aeternitas Tenebrarum Foundation. More details to follow.

  • After a decade long run, BIOLOCH have sadly called it a day.  The members will continue on in new projects and bands.

  • Paragon Records have picked up Vorkuta for their next two releases. To the uninitiated, Vorkuta from Hungary play a cold and desecrating form of Black Metal. At times, attaining  the atmosphere of “Blood,Fire,Death” era Bathory. As well as the traditional style of Black Metal found on Darkthrone’s “Total Death” album. The band has previously released cassettes on WAR productions, Stygian Shadows Productions, and FolterKammer Records. And will soon issue split releases with the likes of Abigail, Inferno, and Marblebog. We will issue the “Caverns of Lunacy” CD in January, which showcases the bands more majestic, and atmospheric side. You can visit Vorkuta at their site by clicking here. www.vorkuta.uw.hu

  • Paragon Recs have started working with Ash Pool. A primitive and sadomasochist black metal duo, who previously released two demos. One of which (Genital Tomb) was just released by Canadian label, Tour De Garde. Ash Pool, which also consists of Dominick Fernow of the Noise act Prurient, have already been described as the new force in American Black Metal.  A 7” ep “Black Bondage in the North” will be released in January 2007 which shows the band going for a more atmospheric sound, yet maintaining their previously established confrontational approach. Sound clips will be posted shortly.

Re-release of the seventh album from this cult colombian act. In "voices" we'll find an excellent effort of pure doom metal, plenty of strenght and melody, sounding mature, personal, and very well played and arranged; for this recording even they used a hall orchestra and the album has been mastered in New York at the Sterling Sound Studio by George Marino (Metallica, Aerosmith, Type O Negative). A conceptual album, with a history of love and war that goes around ten chapters of passion and misery, in short music full of life. Here we have brand new artwork, one live track, one videoclip and two live videos as extras. Among their influences we could name to diverse bands such as Moonspell, Metallica, Paradise Lost, Rammstein, Pink Floid or Black Sabbath. If you are into doom or melodic rock/metal in general don't miss this, 'cause is an album worthy of being near the classics of the genre. More info here

Sweden, and concretely Gothenburg have been one of the most actives scenes in the rock and metal world. From this cold city arise now Speedfreaks to become in one of the local rock icons, although with a music far from the so-called "gothenburg sound". The band is back in this second album with a more mature, personal and powerful sound, that take roots in bands as Motörhead, Black Label Society, Black Sabbath and The Cult among others, but obtaining their own and original sound, based in a mixture between rock'n'roll, hard rock, plus some touches of metal and punk. High energy and pure Rock'n Roll, plenty of power, aggressiveness, good melodies, catchy songs full of brilliant riffs and an excellent cover of Nazareth´s classic "Somebody to roll". • DIMMU BORGIR recording update!

Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR have entered Studio Fredman with producer Fredrik Nordström to begin recording their new album for an early 2007 release. DIMMU guitarist Silenoz checks in with the following recording update: "So, just to let you know, everything moves along nicely in the studio, perhaps a bit too well…? With past studio ghost experiences in mind, something is just bound to happen… I'm sure of it. Well, apart from being the typical pessimist, at least it didn't take us too long to get all the basic rhythm guitar tracks down and even better - it sounds awesome! A fat and razor-sharp tone, without compromise, hitting you right between the eyes! Proper equipment — Engl amps, ESP guitars and Seymour Duncan pickups — make things hell of a lot easier, I say. Leads/solos and acoustic/clean guitars will be laid down later when everything else is ready. Bass and keys are up next. We expect it to sound nothing less than grandiose once this beast is finished. Oh, yeah, almost forgot, we have the album title as well, but we're not gonna announce it until the time is right!"

Candlelight Records today confirms January 23 as the North American release date for Crowbar's Live: With Full Force.  Filmed at the popular German open air festival of the same name, Live: With Full Force was captured on Crowbar’s world tour supporting their 2005 release, Lifesblood for the Downtrodden.  The live performance dvd also includes candid backstage footage plus the band’s second (and previously unavailable) promotional video for Lifesblood for the Downtrodden album track “Slave No More.”

It goes without saying the scope of contributions and merits Crowbar have had on the heavy music scene since their formation over a decade ago. Originally noted as a cross-mix of Pantera and The Melvins, later dubbed sludge metal/core, Crowbar pioneered the genre’s early sound and today continue to push its boundaries with experimentation and endless determination. To date their US soundscan history approaching a quarter of a million units.  “Crowbar are the meat n’ potatoes of extreme metal... a comforting, welcome sustenance that is satisfying no matter how many times you experience it.” - Digital Metal
Track listing for Live: With Full Force is as follows:  Self-Inflicted, I Am Forever, The Lasting Dose, Burn Your World, New Dawn, High Rate Extinction, Planets Collide, All I Had (I Gave), Slave No More (video)

Crowbar are planning a series of dates in 2007 while continuing work on new material for their next album expected early 2008.

Candlelight Records today confirms January 23 as the North American release date for Abigail Williams' Legend.  The limited edition 5-song ep is the territory's formal introduction to the Phoenix-based extreme metal band and coincides with the band’s first national American tour; the band participating on Candlelight’s upcoming (and highly anticipated) label tour featuring co-headliners Dark Funeral and Enslaved.
Amassing an impressive quarter million hits to their MySpace page (this in under six months!), Abigial Williams defy classification by taking the groove and melody of Gothenburg-styled death metal, face-smashing breakdowns of the hardcore scene and top it with the bombastic and epic-flavored frostbite of black metal’s evilest hordes. The result is a multi-faceted and unforgettable hybrid that already has genre aficionados taking an immediate interest.  Kerrang! says, “the bloody birth of black metalcore. Abigail Williams have taken fresh-faced metal down the left hand path... the result is obscenely exciting.”

Abigail Williams' full length debut is planned for an early Spring 2007 release.  Additional touring plans will be announced in cooperation with the album's release date.

Track listing for Legend is as follows:  From a Buried Heart, Like Carrion Birds, The Conqueror Wyrm, Watchtower, Procession of the Aeons (exclusive demo).

  • BLACKMORE'S NIGHT To Release Winter Carols On Locomotive

Locomotive Sends A Christmas Gift To The World With The November 7th Release Of Winter Carols By BLACKMORE'S NIGHT
"Ritchie Blackmore has been known worldwide for his guitar shredding in Deep Purple and Rainbow. He has also shown hints of his penchant for medieval music in both of those bands. That 18th and 19th Century love, though, has only truly come to the fore within the acoustic context of his "renaissance rock project, Blackmore's Night. The seven-piece band, featuring the airy vocals of his lovely wife, Candice Night, who has been compared to Stevie Nicks and Karen Carpenter, has been an ongoing passion of the guitarist's since 1997. On November 24th, Locomotive Records will release a very special holiday album, Winter Carols.
"The holiday season has always embodied joy, love, peace and togetherness, says Candice. "We are entranced by the magic of the season. The sentiments of the holidays are what we try to express in our music year round – so this CD is a natural progression. All the music we craft and create has always been about love, unity and friendship. These songs as a whole are beautiful unifying carols. Feel the warmth of friendship! Everyone can join in.

"The origin of the word `carol' means `dance,' adds Ritchie. "I am naturally attracted to these melodies. As a kid, I would go from house to house during the holiday time and sing them just to earn some money. As an adult, I thought I could play them and make more money!

  • Devilish Impressions Sign To Conquer Records; Tour Dates Announced
DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS who has signed records deal with British label Conquer Records in June 2006 has been confirmed as a main support act for AETERNUS on their European tour in November/December this year. The band will be promoting their latest effort "Plurima Mortis Imago which is out now.

The band's first official release consists of 9 new compositions, plus - as a special bonus - video clip to SataniChaoSymphony. DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS new album may be a big step forward on the Avant-Garde Black/Death metal scene, as this time the band goes even further to gain more brutality combined with unique atmosphere and a subtle melody of each track. According to one of the band's member: " (...) it is a record for every metal fan, as it contains a mass of technical death metal riffs as well as essential dose of original melodies, breathtakingly fast blasts, raging vocals and beautiful keyboard passages, enveloped in a totally sick and furious atmosphere of all-pervading coldness, rebellion and licentiousness! With this record we want to prove that not everything within this field has been said. Moving across the genre makes it possible to distance oneself and play the music a little differently, but without losing the original spirit of what metal has always been, is and what it should be in the future!!! (Quazarre)

One of "Plurima Mortis Imago" producers is Arek Malczewski, who is also the producer and sound engineer for Behemoth, Vesania, Asgaard and Lost Soul amongst others. Editing and mixing were carried out in the home studio of Asgaard's keyboard player, Wojtek Kostrzewa, and finally the album was mastered by the Wieslawski Brothers of the Hertz Studio in Bialystok (Vader, Decapitated, Hate etc.).

  • Moonlight rescheduled release date of their new album.

Integrated In The System Of Guilt will be issued on 27th November on Metal Mind Productions. New material was recorded in August, in Fonoplastykon studio with Marcin Bors as the sound engineer. Andrzej Kutys: "The album is heavy and powerful but also lyrical, psychedelic and disco-like; it is full of noises as well as beautiful melodies& The songs interleave, thus  creating a musical whole. Also, you are in for a big surprise as, for the first time in the band's history, we have a guest on the album! Adam Sypula from Ctrl-Alt-Del joined Maja on vocals in one track. In our opinion, it is the best Moonlight album."

As part of promotion Moonlight supported Polish act Riverside during their Second Live Syndrome II Tour in Poland. Moonlight comments: "Seven days on the tour. We love to play gigs and this time we had great fun too. First time we played for people who didn't know our works. It was a quite different audience then we are used to. This people listened very carefully to everything we wanted to present them. We had a lot of positive emotions about it&. Friends from Riverside turned out to be great companions to talk not only about music. We hope to meet with them on next tour. We would like to greet our "old" and "new" listeners and first of all Riverside - It was a sensational tour".

  • CANNIBAL CORPSE recaps Australia/New Zealand tour!

We have just returned from a very successful tour of Australia and New Zealand. We would like to thank the guys at Soundworks Touring for doing such a great job with the organization and promotion of the tour.
Thanks also go out to Darren and all at Stomp for the help they gave us before and during the tour, and to the clubs and local promoters that helped make the tour possible.
We would also like to say thanks and hello to Psycroptic, Plague, and Ulcerate. It was great to share the stage with such killer bands while we were down there.
Finally, and most importantly, we would like to say a huge thank you to all of the fans who attended the shows in Australia and New Zealand. We had not been to Australia in many years, and we had never been to New Zealand, so we were not entirely sure what to expect. The size and enthusiasm of the crowds was even greater than we had hoped for, and we wanted to make sure you all knew how much we appreciate that. We got the chance to hang out with a lot of friends old and new, and you all made the long trip and hectic schedule (8 shows in 8 days, with flights between each city) more than worth the effort for us. We'll make sure that we return to Australia and New Zealand a lot more often, because you guys rule!

  • THE ACCURSED To Release 'Seasons Of The Scythe' On Halloween.

It's very fitting that the extreme metal quintet THE ACCURSED should release their full-length debut, "Seasons of the Scythe", on Halloween. After all, this is a band that signed their recording contract in blood — their own blood. "They really did sign in their own blood," admits Screaming Ferret Wreckords founder Timothy A. Koukos. "I had no clue they were going to do that. Signed it with a pen then pulled out knives and started cutting their hands."

Hailing from New Bedford, Massachusetts, THE ACCURSED is comprised of Jonathan Helme on vocals, Helme's brother Chris on drums, guitarists Tim Giblin and Loki, and bassist George Pacheco. And although "Scythe" is the group's first full-length, THE ACCURSED have already shared the stage with some of metal's most renowned names — BEHEMOTH, NILE, BEYOND THE EMBRACE, BODY COUNT, NUCLEAR ASSAULT and M.O.D.

While such song titles as "Slaughter of the Gods", "Land of the Dead", and "I Am Famine" show that THE ACCURSED posses a serious dark streak, singer Helme wants fans to have fun on their forthcoming supporting tour. "When we play live, I want to see old-style circle pits. If people want to get in the pit to have a good time, they should be able to. Too many people get seriously hurt at shows now. It's like they forgot how to dance right."

From the first cutting riff, it becomes immediately clear that the unholy offspring of classic thrash and death metal presented by The Accursed on Seasons Of The Scythe is the result of years of listening and learning. Well-versed in all things heavy, The Accursed spew forth a lethal dose of musical toxin that proudly carries on the metal tradition. Exuding the venomous snarl of a young and angry James Hetfield, vocalist Jonathan Helme leads this sadistic platoon - brother Chris on drums, guitarists Tim Giblin and Loki, and bassist George Pacheco - into vicious sonic battle with nods to the likes of Death, Slayer, Venom, At The Gates and Anthrax along the way.

The Accursed combines a youthful exuberance with all that was good about metal of years past. They have already shared the stage with such extreme music greats as Behemoth, Nile, Beyond The Embrace, Body Count, Nuclear Assault and MOD while playing festivals like the Milwaukee and New Jersey Metalfests and the Northern Aggression festival.

The Accursed has a commitment to their craft not often seen. "We signed our contract in our own blood… I proposed to my wife on stage at one of our shows… we drove thirty hours to play a show in Minneapolis…." says Helme. "As long as there is a last breath in me, I'll never stop playing."

And what does The Accursed want fans to get from their music? "Whiplash!"

A track listing for "Seasons Of The Scythe" includes:
    1. Deities and Demigods/Sawtoothsmile
    2. Seasons Of The Scythe
    3. Fire Of 1000 Cries
    4. I Am Famine

It was the express willing of the band, who felt necessary to provide fans any tool available to enjoy their music.

As a label we often think  on how to meet people’s desire to know beforehand what they’re buying, what is the best way to provide an useful service to fans, but at the same time, how to protect both musicians and label from illegal exploitation or use (read: illegal album downloading) of the rights connected to the music.
So we fulfilled band’s wishes, thinking it is a good middle point in the issue and agreed for the first time to put online a full release of our catalogue.
    T-shirts available soon!

  • DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS who has signed records deal with British label Conquer Records in June 2006 has been confirmed as a main support act for AETERNUS on their European tour in November/December this year. The band will be promoting their latest effort – “Plurima Mortis Imago” which is out now.

The band’s first official release consists of 9 new compositions, plus - as a special bonus - video clip to "SataniChaoSymphony”. DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS’ new album may be a big step forward on the Avant-Garde Black/Death metal scene, as this time the band goes even further to gain more brutality combined with unique atmosphere and a subtle melody of each track. According to one of the band’s member: " (...) it is a record for every metal fan, as it contains a mass of technical death metal riffs as well as essential dose of original melodies, breathtakingly fast blasts, raging vocals and beautiful keyboard passages, enveloped in a totally sick and furious atmosphere of all-pervading coldness, rebellion and licentiousness! With this record we want to prove that not everything within this field has been said. Moving across the genre makes it possible to distance oneself and play the music a little differently, but without losing the original spirit of what metal has always been, is and what it should be in the future!!!" (Quazarre)

One of “Plurima Mortis Imago” producers is Arek Malczewski, who is also the producer and sound engineer for Behemoth, Vesania, Asgaard and Lost Soul amongst others. Editing and mixing were carried out in the home studio of Asgaard’s keyboard player, Wojtek Kostrzewa, and finally the album was mastered by the Wieslawski Brothers of the Hertz Studio in Bialystok (Vader, Decapitated, Hate etc.).

I'm pleased to announce Metal Blade Records has officially inked a worldwide deal with the brutal North Shore/Boston Massachusetts hardcore band Since the Flood. Since The Flood's debut release, No Compromise will mark the bands follow up to the underground hit Valor and Vengeance which came out through Iron Clad Recordings (Unearth frontman Trevor Phipps' label) in February 2005. No Compromise, recorded at Outpost Studios in Stoughton, MA with Jim Siegal (Blood for Blood, Cave In, and the Dropkick Murphys), shows the band heading in a more focused and intense direction with the end results being a far more concentrated hardcore record than anything they have done in the past. "There's no doubt in our mind that both old fans, and new, will be very surprised and pleased with the direction we've gone musically since Valor and Vengeance" states the band.

No Compromise will be released in early 2007. More information and tour dates will be released shortly.

    Since The Flood is:
    Luke Buckbee – drums
    Kevin Leary – guitars
    Chuck Bouley - vocals
    Dave Stauble – guitars
    Rob Deangelis – bass

  • Metal Blade Records signs AEON!

I am very pleased to announce the signing of AEON, one of our latest additions to the Metal Blade family. Known for their technicality and sheer brutality AEON has made a place for themselves among the leaders of the death metal community by creating excruciatingly heavy, yet catchy songs that have caught the attention death metal heavy weights Cannibal Corpse, who are some of their biggest supporters. "AEON's musicianship is among the best in death metal, but their songwriting is what truly sets them apart. It's rare to find a death metal band that is simultaneously crushingly brutal and infectiously catchy. AEON is one of those rare bands" states Cannibal Corpse bassist Alex Webster.

Not content with merely playing extremely fast, Aeon set out to take death metal to a new level by having all the instruments "support" each other while taking the time to create superior riffs, lyrics and vocal patterns with thought behind them. With the band already working on new material for their Metal Blade debut and tours already in the works, you can expect to see great things from this Swedish death metal quintet.

Here's what guitarist Zeb Nilsson had to say about their recent signing:

"This is the kind of deal we've been waiting for since we started up as a band. We are all very exited about this new chapter for us, and we already have 7 or 8 new songs done for our next album and they all sound killer, I am very satisfied so far…"

Stay tuned for more information on Aeon's upcoming Metal Blade debut and tour dates.

    Aeon is:
    Tommy Dahlström - Vocals
    Zeb Nilsson - Guitar
    Daniel Dlimi - Guitar
    Nils Fjellström - Drums
    Max Carlberg – Bass

  • Galy Records is proud to announce the signing of Anonymus
Galy Records is proud to announce the release of the forthcoming Anonymus album 'Chapter Chaos begins'. This new album, produced by Jean-François Dagenais (Kataklysm, Misery Index) and mastered by Peter In de Betou (Meshuggah, Dimmu Borgir), contains ten songs of pure and ferocious thrash metal.
A well respected institution among the Quebec metal scene, Anonymus have always delivered a live performance full of intensity and infectious energy.  They are without a doubt a driving force in the Canadian metal scene. It’s with great pleasure that Galy Records announces its partnership with Anonymus to add another blistering chapter to their career.

Open Grave Records is pleased to announce the addition of Demon Dog Sperm to the Open Grave Records family of artists. Demon Dog Sperm (also known as D.D.S.) hails from Allentown, PA. Formed in 2005 with the lineup of Sid (Vocals), Deron Christman (Guitar), Steve Lelong (Bass) and Dennis Christman (Drums) and later adding Chris Reinhart as a second guitarist.
Having shared the stage with acts such as Clutch, Saliva, Exodus, Crisis, 3 Inches of Blood along with in 2005 having competed and won the Van's Warped Tour Battle of the Bands and securing themselves a spot on The Warped tour they have grown their number of fans to huge proportions.
Influences such as the oozing down tuned distortion of Acid Bath, Mortician, Six Feet Under and the song flow of Clutch, Hatebreed, and Nothingface, gives Demon Dog Sperm a solid music foundation and direction. Their triple vocals attack, distinctive guitar sound, sonic bass and percussive assault contribute to the bands originality. Demon Dog Sperm fills the missing piece you've always been looking for in metal but couldn't put your finger on it.
A track for the bands demo entitled, “Tumor” can be downloaded via Open Grave Records website at http://www.opengraverecords.com.

Demon Dog Sperm will be entering the studio in late 2006 to begin recording for their debut album on Open Grave Records which is scheduled for a late fall release.

The sophomore release from Sweden’s BLINDED COLONY, “Bedtime Prayers” has been pushed to January 9th Worldwide and January 12th in Europe. TRENTON, NJ - Steel Attack’s fifth album “Diabolic Symphony” is now released in the US through Locomotive Records.

The album, recorded at Black Lounges Studio in Avesta, Sweden, was mixed by by Jonas Kjellgren and produced by Kjellgren and Steel Attack. “Diabolic Symphony” is also the first album to be recorded with drummer Tony Elfving, who was previously in Arcana Major and Lack of Faith with vocalist Ronny Hemlin.

“Diabolic Symphony” is a clear departure from Steel Attack’s traditional power metal style and explores the realms of heavy melodic metal with symphonic progressive undertones.

“We all agreed it was time for a change,” said vocalist Ronny Hemlin. “We felt we needed to mature musically and it was also a natural progression due to the new blood in the band.”

The CD includes a bonus video for the track "Diabolic Symphony,” directed by Owe Lingvall, drummer of Nocturnal Rites.

“The video plays out a very dark story of a mentally disturbed man trapped in a void - a dark space which is this man’s own Hell,” said Hemlin. “He has been lured there by an enchanting diabolic symphony. The story is also mixed with sequences of the band playing in a “diabolical” environment."

The video is included on the Nuclear Blast compilation DVD “Monsters Of Metal Volume 5,” released this past summer.

Steel Attack has currently returned to Lingvall’s studio to film their second video from the album for the track “Invisible God.”

    “Diabolic Symphony” Track Listing

    Shallow Seas Of Hatred

New York, NY - Epic recording artists Incubus have announced dates for their first North American tour in two years. The long-awaited road jaunt kicks off January 5th at the Queen Elizabeth Theatrein Vancouver and will cover 25 major cities across the U.S. and Canada.

The multiplatinum quintet (vocalist Brandon Boyd, guitarist Mike Einziger, bassist Ben Kenney, DJ Chris Kilmore and drummer Jose Pasillas) will be touring in support of their sixth studio release, LIGHT GRENADES. The disc-a mix of hard rocking songs and sublime ballads-was recorded in Atlanta and L.A. with acclaimed producer Brendan O'Brien (Audioslave, Neil Young, Pearl Jam) and arrives in stores November 28th.

About the album, lead singer Brandon Boyd says, "It kicks, it bites, it loves, it hurts. It's the closest we've come to being the band we want to be."

To celebrate the release of this highly anticipated record, Incubus is offering fans the opportunity to pre-order the album from www.enjoyincubus.com and become eligible to purchase a pair of tickets to an upcoming show.

LIGHT GRENADES is generating serious buzz thanks to the early success of hook-ridden lead single "Anna Molly." Since hitting the airwaves just three weeks ago, the song has become a hit at rock radio and recently ascended onto the Modern Rock Chart's Top 10. There will be two versions of the "Anna Molly" companion video: the first is a highly-charged cinematic clip directed by Jamie Thraves (Coldplay, Death Cab For Cutie and Radiohead.). For the second, Incubus is teaming with Verizon Wireless for an online promotion in which fans will "direct" a special video that will stream on YouTube, Yahoo! Music, V CAST Service, etc.

Boyd, Einziger and Pasillas formed Incubus in 1991 when they were high school classmates in Calabasas, California. DJ Kilmore joined in 1998. The band's big break came in 1999 with the singles, "Pardon Me," "Stellar" and "Drive" from their second full-length, double-platinum-selling disc Make Yourself. The group's third album, Morning View, released in 2001, debuted at number two on the album chart and included the radio hits "Wish You Were Here," "Nice to Know You" and "Warning." Kenney joined the band in 2003. The most recent release from Incubus, 2004's A Crow Left of the Murder, achieved platinum status on the strength of the #1 radio hit, "Megalomaniac."

  • SLAYER New Album Banned In India By Christian Group

    By Nyay Bhushan, New Delhi

Mumbai-based EMI Virgin India Ltd said Friday (Oct. 6) it will recall all copies of the new Slayer album "Christ Illusion" following protests by a Christian group, Mumbai-based Catholic Secular Forum (CSF).

Early this week, Joseph Dias, general secretary of CSF, issued a statement taking "strong exception" to the album's cover artwork, which he said depicts "Christ with a missing eye and amputated arms." He added, "we also condemn the track, 'Skeleton Christ' as the lyrics are an insult to Christianity." The CSF also sent a memorandum to Mumbai's police commissioner, adding that the album "will affect the sensibilities of the Muslims on the track 'Jihad' and secular Indians who have respect for all faiths."

Kaveri Khullar, marketing manager, EMI India said in an interview, "We met with the CSF and were apologetic while assuring them that all copies of the album would be pulled out. We have no plans of re-issuing it in any way."

The "Christ Illusion" album had been on the shelves for only a week. Khullar did not confirm the number of units released only stating, "There weren't too many that we launched anyway."

The CSF had earlier protested against the Indian release of "The Da Vinci Code" which led the Censor Board to instruct the India distributor, Mumbai-based Sony Pictures Releasing India, to include a notice to accompany the film to explain that it was a work of fiction.

  • Crucial Blast is stoked to be releasing the new full length from Pittsburgh death ray thrashers MICROWAVES.
If the Pittsburgh, PA. independent music scene were a nursery, Microwaves would be the incorrigible 7-year-old who should have graduated five years ago, scrawling "fuck off" on the wall sloppily, in permanent ink. If it were a Radio Shack franchise, Microwaves would be the taciturn employee who wires the store sprinkler system up to a motion sensor, dousing and electrocuting customers and staff alike at the first false movement. The Pittsburgh music scene is neither, thankfully, and the three members of Microwaves are content with their roles in the universe as conduits - nothing more, nothing less.
As artistic pedigree goes, well, you be the judge: Drummer John Roman (formerly of the 1985) and guitarist/vocalist Dr. David Kuzy founded the group with original bass player Steve Moore (now of Relapse records artists Zombi) for their first three independent releases, and only recently have parted ways with Jason Jouver, now serving as one-half of the rhythm section of the reactivated Don Caballero. Longtime fan and former Creation is Crucifixion/Fate of Icarus/Conelrad guitarist Adam MacGregor hastily purchased the remainder of Moore's 'waves-era bass gear to step up and round out the lineup in November of 2005, just in time to record the band's latest record, "Contagion Heuristic", to be released by the Crucial Blast label in November 2006.
In the anti-tradition of whitebread Bay Area thrash metal, the violent morass of New York no wave, and a familiarity with Ralph Records insanity, Microwaves draws from a palette that is somehow as wide as it seems limited. On "Contagion Heuristic", Kuzy spits tonality-impaired, spiked skronk-infested riffs like so much chaff from a surgically calibrated tree shredder. MacGregor processes his fretless bass with all manner of effects, often rendering it as more a bowel-rumbling presence than an instrument. When the two "groove" along to Roman's cyborg clatter, it is more the exception than the norm. The dual vocal attack of MacGregor's narrations from the edge and Kuzy, the detached town crier - seals the deal as it serves to further blast MICROWAVES' dystopian thrash into the outer void. Indeed, Microwaves pride themselves in creating a blues-free vacuum in a shot-and-beer milltown rife with 12-bar ponytail-growers.
  • Crucial Blast welcomes Portland, Oregon's blazing BLACK ELK to the label's roster, and will be issuing their debut full length on 11/7/06.
The eponymous debut from Portland, Oregon's BLACK ELK is a raging destructo rock eruption, heavy, catchy, and flattening.  This ten song album contains a creeped out conglom of carnivorous charred hardcore punk, the sludgy power of primo Pacific Northwest tarpit rawk (think KARP, MELVINS, and early SOUNDGARDEN as reference points), twitchy Midwestern noise rage somewhere between Am Rep Records (circa-1991) and a more rabid DIE KREUZEN, and a goatheaded psychedelic backwoods black mass/dance party risen to a freakin' fever pitch.  Total crush. Produced by Mike Lastra at Smegma Studios (EARTH, THRONES, JACKIE O MOTHERFUCKER).

Black Elk is now on tour beginning in support of this release:
