  • DREAMLIKE HORROR, the project of APHAZEL and DEADLY KRISTIN of the well-known ANCIENT, sign with Sleaszy Rider and their debut "Delightful Suicides" will be released on 15 March 2005. It is a horror/atmospheric project, a very decadent, melancholic album with mysterious atmosphere. The band has recorded 5 songs at 2000 in a dark and humid medieval house, in a half abandoned and decadent medieval yard in Italy and so you all can imagine the inspiration for the song's writing. Dreamlike Horror are now in the final recordings of 5 more tracks, so we will have to do with a complete masterpiece!

  • THE LUST from Russia inked a deal with Sleaszy Rider and their second album, "My Dear Emptiness" will be released on 15 January 2005. The Lust, that started their musical career under the moniker Lust Embrace (which they didn't keep for too long), released in February 2004 their debut album "Tangled" from the biggest there is Russian label Fono Records. During the period that these lines are written, the band is in Phantom Pain Studios in Saint Petersbourg, where they record "My Dear Emptiness". They will be visiting on 16 December The Prophecys Studio in Kempten, Germany, for the mixing and mastering procedures, that they will be done by R.D. Liapakis, singer of Mystic Prophecy. The group that plays atmospheric and modern death metal (somewhere between Theatre of Tragedy's "Aegis" and "Assembly"), has as its mascot, their female singer Mirla who is at the age of 16!!! More news on them will follow soon enough...

  • The Athenian melodic heavy/power metallers OVERLOAD have signed a deal with Sleaszy Rider and their debut "Never Again" will be released pretty soon. The album was prepared about 5 years ago, but if you will listen to the final result, you will understand the good work that took place here! An absolutely catchy/melodic album for all the Stratovarius, Helloween and Sonata Arctica fans! Keep your ears open for a new album that will kick your ass!

  • HANNIBAL, the new band of Alex "Hannibal" Balakakis, ex-singer of Power Crue and Spitfire (Spitfire were the supporting act of Iron Maiden when they played live in Athens in1999), signed a deal with Sleaszy Rider and their debut "This Is U" will be released on 15 January 2005. At the moment the final mixes of their album are taking place. Their style is something between Marylin Manson and Monster Magnet: modern, catchy and melodic metal with industrial and stoner rock elements, made in USA! You will be able to check the band out soon enough in the FIREHOUSE TRIBUTE cd, where Hannibal participate and they covered excellently the song "Don't Treat Me Bad".

  • THEE PLAGUE OF GENTLEMEN to release their debut album "Primula Pestis" through I HATE RECORDS.

Belgian Thee Plague Of Gentlemen (TPOG) is an act whose sheer heaviness must be experienced through direct contact, preferably in the live environment,to be believed. Naturally this ideal setting is out of reach for your every day doze of TPOG, wherefore a fair substitute for a live-flattening of your skull would be to play their soon to be out debut album "Primula Pestis" LOUD in your, hopefully low-end stable, home stereo.

During November and December 2004 TPOG are in the studio recording said slab of concrete and utter sonic weight for a February/March 2005 release.

TPOG let themselves be inspired by morose monster acts such as WINTER, CELTIC FROST, DREAM DEATH, SAINT VITUS, PENTAGRAM, MELVINS and GODFLESH in the creation of their music. The result is however not easy to put a tag on as this band has forged a unique sound which has taken them deep into the territories of non-trendy music. Therefore we settle for stating that, regardless of which genre to place TPOG in, their debut album "Primula Pestis" will be 2005 heaviest METAL album!

THEE PLAGUE OF GENTLEMEN will play live with REVEREND BIZARRE, ISOLE and THE GATES OF SLUMBER in Stockholm/Sweden at CLUB666 on the 9th of April 2005.

The Stockholm gig will be one stop in the row of European dates that TPOG does together with THE GATES OF SLUMBER during April 2005 in Sweden, Germany, UK, Belgium, The Netherlands, Austria... (still looking for some dates. In february, TPOG will do 2 Irish dates also (Belfast and Dublin).

  • NAPALM DEATH SALUTE NORTH AMERICAN AUDIENCES

Returning home after bludgeoning North American audiences with their punishing live performances, NAPALM DEATH’s vocalist Barney Greenway sent fans this message: “We would like to send out a hearty thanks to everyone who came out to support us on the US tour. It was a really funny old time being there for the elections and seeing the sadly inevitable result, which I think gave us more of an incentive to try and rock like bastards. It wouldn't be an understatement to say that we had a truly fantastic time, and for us it bodes well for coming back on another tour sometime in the first half of next year. Peace, tolerance and respect.”

Supporting their October Century Media debut Leaders Not Followers: Part 2, the band performed 28 American dates with Cannibal Corpse, Kataklysm and Goatwhore and 8 headlining dates with Misery Index. In early 2005, NAPALM DEATH will release their new full-length studio album The Code Is Red… Long Live The Code. Guest vocalists include Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) and MTV2’s Headbangers Ball host Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed). Keep checking the Century Media website for complete details on this forthcoming release. Metal Maniacs

Øyvind Hægerland, known from Spiral Arcitect took over the impossible task after Kristoffer Rygg left in 2003, and with great success. They are currently working with new materiale, and recording of their fortcoming album will take place around new year.

Mantas, founder member of Black Metal legends Venom and the man responsible for much of the bands classic early material, has a new band and a new album which sees him taking his own brand of Heavy Metal to new levels of brutality. • DEATH TRIBUTE NEWS FROM JAMES MURPHY

    Hi All,

I've just returned home to Florida from a 6 week stay in Los Angeles where I got tons of work done for the Death Tribute CD, Within The Mind, which I have been working on together with Deron Miller of cKy for a while now.
My first week was at Deron's home where he recorded rhythm guitars for several of the album's tracks. I was expecting that he would do well but he blew my expectations out the door... he played the songs amazingly and knew them right off the top of his head.. and very few punches were necessary (a rare feat, trust me)... he knew the songs THAT well!

In week two I stayed at the home of one-time Death guitarist Albert Gonzales. Albert, as those who know their Death history very well will remember, was the guitarist who took my place for the second US tour in support of Spiritual Healing. I had met Albert while I was still in Death when we played a festival that his then band, Evil Dead, also played. Albert is a killer jazz-influenced player who's solo style obviously impressed Chuck quite a bit back in 1990 and which is even more developed now and his contribution to the Within The Mind tribute is VERY cool and brings his part in the legacy of Death to full circle.

During week three I made a quick trip up to Seattle where I recorded Nevermore guitarist Jeff Loomis, Himsa guitarist Matt Wicklund, and ex-Forbidden, ex-Nevermore guitarist Tim Calvert. Jeff laid down 2 incredible solos, but that will be no surprise to those who have heard him and followed his career in Nevermore. Matt and Tim recorded a great solo each. it was cool to see from Matt's contribution yet another example that tasteful playing is alive and well in newer metal bands and it was an equally great pleasure to see Tim step back in from musical retirement (he has a successful aviation career) and show that he still has it.

    Jeff Loomis and myself

For week four I was back at Albert Gonzales' home where Rise Vocalist/Guitarist Istvan Lendvay also resides. Those unfamiliar with Rise may know Istvan from his touring stints as fill-in guitarist and bassist, respectively, for Behemoth and Vital Remains. Istvan lent his vocals to one track with great results. I also spent a few days resting and recuperating from the heavy schedule during this week.

Week 5 brought me to the home of Brujeria, Asesino, ex-Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares where drummer Nicholas Barker (Brujeria, Old Man's Child, Lock-up, ex-Dimmu Borgir, ex- Cradle Of Filth) was also staying during a trip to the US to rehearse with Dino for some Brujeria shows and to write some material for their as yet unnamed new project. Nick laid down the foundation for 2 more songs for the tribute and Dino contributed his signature rhythm guitars to one of those. once again, I am very happy and I can't wait for everyone to hear them on the CD. off the subject of the death tribute for a moment.....during this week Dino and Nick asked me to record and mix 2 of their new songs for their new band.. I did and I can tell you that it's awesome material and these two guys will be roaring back very soon with a full CD of new material with their new band and it's awesome, brutal, fast, technical, VERY heavy and catchy.

Dino Cazares, Deron Miller, me, Nicholas Barker

Week 6: amidst preparations to fly home and wrapping up the recordings with Dino and Nick I also managed in the final week to meet back up with Deron Miller who laid down an excellent vocal track and I also brought another bassist on board who happens to be an old friend of mine and a long time Death and death metal fan - Tony Campos of Static X . I've know Tony since about 1996 and, despite that his primary band is not known for playing death metal, his sincerity as fan of Chuck's music and death metal in general is the same now as it was when I first met him some 8 years or so ago.

I'm back in Florida now and planning the next trip out.. this time the east and northeast US and a short trip into Canada... time to buy new thermals! as always I welcome your comments.... just don't bother attacking the credibility or musicianship of any of the guests. each were held to high standards and 2 major criteria... #1: each must have been a fan of Death and Chuck for years #2: musicianship, musicianship, musicianship - each guest must be able to play Chuck's music... and well.

Thanks for following the progress and for your patience... it's going to be worth the wait!

    ~James Murphy

DIECAST are currently wrapping up a highly successful run on the Radiotakeover.com tour alongside E-Town Concrete, Devilinside and Twelve Tribes. Jeremy Wooden (bass) checks in with the following tour report, “The Radiotakeover.com tour has been great. Some of the shows have been on the smaller side, but everyone who has come out has been really into all the bands, which has made it an amazing time. We just finished playing in Worcester, MA and Poughkeepsie, NY, which turned out to be two of the best shows of the tour. All the bands are absolutely amazing, and besides our van getting 7 mpg on the highway, things seem to be running pretty smoothly. We'll have a full update at the end of the tour, but everyone get ready for January when we'll be on the road with Hatebreed and Agnostic Front. Hell yeah.”

  • SCUM OF THE EARTH have just unleashed their debut CD entitled "Blah...Blah...Blah...Love Songs for the New Millennium" on October 26. The CD features Riggs & John Tempesta from Rob Zombie, Mike Tempesta from Powerman 5000, and guest performances by John Dolmayan. The sounds of Scum are immediately familiar, yet not derivative. Riggs, the architect of Zombie’s high-tech guitar grind has reformatted his signature tone for a new era, and achieved a vibrant vibe that is simultaneously angry, sleazy and blunt as a battering ram smashing through a trailer park home. His scathing vocal technique is as spine chilling as it is powerful. “I didn’t really have a band or anything in the beginning, Rob was busy making movies and we were sitting around waiting for something new to happen” Riggs says. “I just had all these songs, and I picked the best ones and then asked some people to help me out. It’s amazing how well everything came together." The entire CD can be previewed & purchased on the Eclipse website as well as at all Tower Records, Best Buy, Virgin Megastore, Sam Goody, Mediaplay, Coconuts, Fye, Circuit City, Walmart, Kmart, Hot Topic, iTunes, Listen.com, Zia, Newbury Comics, Wherehouse, and all other better music stores nationwide.

The Scum of the Earth street team is in full force and still accepting applications at www.streetteam.com so if you're really into the music and want to receive stickers, postcards, sampler cds and posters to hand out at concerts, school, malls and record stores, visit the streetteam.com website and fill out an application right now!

  • AGNOSTIC FRONT GUEST HOSTING HEADBANGER’S BALL

MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball will be opening their studio to New York Hardcore Legends AGNOSTIC FRONT. Airing this Saturday, November 27th at 10:00 P.M. Eastern / 7:00 P.M. Pacific, AGNOSTIC FRONT will host and premiere the video for their latest single “Peace” off the 2005 release Another Voice.

Since 1983, AGNOSTIC FRONT, one of the most venerable and notorious outcasts of the hardcore movement, helped get messages across to the populace through their socially driven music. As one of the original hardcore bands that lived and breathed the problems that controlled their everyday New York City lifestyle, Another Voice, out on January 25th, 2005, gives power and strength to these ignored voices. Their most intense album yet, Another Voice, offers a violent attack on today’s civility, exposing some of society’s worst problems with a genuine street-bred angst and fire that only few bands possess.

Don’t forget to witness the wrath of Agnostic Front when they storm the country as direct support to HATEBREED!

Exhumed is excited to announce a new member to the band's dysfunctional family. Joining the band as the new permanent drummer is Canadian native Matt Connell (ex-Fuck the Facts and Experiment in Terror). Exhumed would like to extend a “fuck yeah!” to Connell, who replaces founding member Col Jones (who left the band in 2003, shortly after the recording of Anatomy is Destiny). Connell agreed, adding “I'm totally stoked! It's awesome to be part of a band I have always held in such high regard. I look forward to helping the guys unleash some good ol' Gore Fuckin' Metal upon the masses.” The other Matt in the band, sole-remaining original member Matt Harvey, welcomed Connell aboard. “Mike (Beams, guitar and vocals) and I are both excited to be finally solidifying a permanent line-up, and the other Matt is going to be a killer addition to the band. While the Canadian jokes will undoubtedly fly fast and furious in the tour van, no one will be joking when they hear some seriously intense one-foot blasts from this guy! I personally guarantee that it will be a total autopsy holocaust doss of maddening mega-grinding!”

Connell will make his recording debut with Exhumed this December when the band will be recording an album of covers to be titled Regurgitated Requiems: Garbage Daze Re-Regurgitated. The album is slated to feature covers from Siege, Master, Metallica, Hexx, Epidemic, Unseen Terror, Amebix, Sadus, Samhain, G.B.H., The Cure, and others to be announced soon.

Since the departure of Col Jones, who provided percussion for the band from 1991-2003,

Exhumed has enlisted the services of Danny Walker (of Uphill Battle and Cinema Strange) and Death Metal hired gun John Longstreth (currently touring with Dying Fetus) on various tours throughout the US, Europe, Japan, Australia, and Iceland.

    EXHUMED announce DVD filming shows!

February 11th and 12th Exhumed will appear live in Hollwood, CA for two shows at the Knitting Factory on the Alterknit stage. Both shows will be filmed for the band's forthcoming DVD. The first night will be with Deceased (their first west coast show ever!) and Cretin (this will be the first show of Col from Exhumed's new band) and the second night will be with Phobia and Cretin. The band plan to play different sets each night to get the most comprehensive tracklisting for the video as possible, so expect all the "hit singles" as well as some rarely heard gems from througout the band's discography, as well as other surprises throughout the night! Any requests for seldom/never before played live songs can be sent to matt@exhumed.us. We hope to see a lot of slaughtercultists and necromaniacs there and we guarantee that it will be a
night to remember for all in attendance!

  • OFFICIAL NEWS FROM MAYHEM

"Maniac is out of legendary black metal band MAYHEM and back in comes Attila Csihar. He will – with immediate effect – take over Maniac’s role as front figure. Although many rumours flourished over the past months, nothing was decided until now. The reason for this change in line-up lies in more private matters, but has also to do with Maniac’s inability to tour. Maniac was, and will always be a part of our legacy, and it has been an honour to work with him for the last 10 years. Respect!" - Mayhem

  • SLAYER's "STILL REIGNING" DVD SELLS A BLOODY LOAD OF COPIES IN ITS FIRST WEEK

Jagermeister Headline Spot Gets Rave Press Reviews

First week sales for Slayer's Still Reigning DVD far exceeded expectations with 9813 copies sold (Soundscan, week ending November 7) and the DVD debuting at #7 on Billboard's Top 50 DVD chart. Slayer's 2003 DVD release, War at the Warfield, sold 6668 copies in its first week and has gone on to sell more than 200,0000 copies worldwide.

In addition, reviews for Slayer's current Fall run, headlining the Jagermeister Music Tour, are pretty spectacular. The New York Times' review referred to Slayer as "the great exemplar of thrash-metal.....the music is the palpable thing...making you smell volume and hear visions," while the entertainment industry trade publication Hollywood Reporter called the show "the most exciting metal concert to hit New York in 2004."

The Still Reigning DVD is 80-minutes of intense, brutal Slayer live-in-concert that includes the original band performing, in its entirety, "Reign In Blood," their 28-minute benchmark album hailed as the greatest speed metal album of all time. That segment of the DVD closes with Slayer's "Wall of Blood" drenching the band, their instruments, and the stage by a downpour of theatrical blood.

Still Reigning also offers bonus material including live performances of Slayer classics such as "War Ensemble," "Hallowed Point," "Necrophobic," "Mandatory Suicide," "Spill The Blood," "Hell Awaits," and "South of Heaven," as well as exclusive interviews and backstage footage.

  • New York-based death metallers SKINLESS have issues the following statement via their official web site:

"After a decade of giving 110% to SKINLESS, vocalist Sherwood Webber is leaving the band. He is pursuing other opportunities in life that wouldn't be possible while playing in a serious touring band. We thank Sherwood for his dedication, energy and talent that have helped elevate SKINLESS to the level we are at today. The search is underway for a new vocalist and SKINLESS will rock on.

"We'd also like to thank everyone who came out to our DVD release show. It was an interesting night as ex-SKINLESS members Ryan Wade (vocals) and Adam Lewis (bass) took the stage along with Sherwood (heads back to play the drums) and myself to perform 'Pool Of Stool' and 'Crispy Kids' in a brief SKINLESS 1995 reunion. I hope you all have as much fun watching the DVD as we had making it. The feedback so far has been awesome." [source: Blabbermouth.com]
