  • HIRAX – NEW STUDIO RELEASE “EL ROSTRO DE LA MUERTE (“The Face of Death”)
DIGITAL DOWNLOADS NOW AVAILABLE; 2009 TOUR DATES

LONG BEACH- HIRAX will release their highly-anticipated new studio album - El Rostro de la Muerte (“The Face of Death”) - in mid August 2009. It is the veteran thrash band’s first full-length since 2004’s The New Age Of Terror.

El Rostro de la Muerte (“The Face of Death”) is a dual-studio effort, combining the skills of two HIRAX producers which the band has worked with on their past 3 releases. The ten new tracks were recorded and engineered by John Haddad at Trench Studio in Corona, California, and mixed by Michael Rozen at Speed Semen Clove Factory in North Hollywood. The new CD will also contain 1 bonus track from the Chaos and Brutality EP, which was previously unavailable in The US.

“The combination of Haddad and Rozen’s recording and production are perfect for the vision that we had for the sound of this album,” said HIRAX vocalist Katon W. De Pena. “We worked with Haddad on the last 2 HIRAX EPs, Assassins of War and “Chaos and Brutality. He has a great understanding of the power and speed of HIRAX, and he knows how to bring the best of our talents to the surface. We have a lot of respect for him. HIRAX first worked with Michael Rozen back in 2004 on The New Age of Terror album and it’s great to be working with him again. His experience in mixing and production are what we need to complete the mega-epic sound that we are striving for. It’s the first time HIRAX has ever brought two of our producers together, but it seemed like the logical thing to do since they both have an ear for detail and a certain work ethic which brings out the best in the band. Musically, it combines everything that HIRAX is known for and much, much more! TRUE THRASH METAL!!”

El Rostro de la Muerte (“The Face of Death”) will be released on Black Devil Records and Deep Six Records and will be distributed through CM Distro.com. It will be pressed in CD and vinyl formats as well as a limited edition picture disc.

The HIRAX title Not Dead Yet (the band’s two classic thrash metal albums Raging Violence and Hate Fear And Power together) is now available digitally through iTunes, along with Thrash and Destroy, Assassins of War, The New Age of Terror, and Barrage of Noise. The band plans to release make more of their extensive back catalog digitally by the end of the year. A new line of HIRAX shirts can be purchased through Razamataz.com Ltd. (heavymetalonline.co.uk/acatalog/HIRAX.html).

HIRAX’s El Rostro de la Muerte (“The Face of Death”) tour will begin in Modesto, California on August 1. They have 4 dates in the metal stronghold of Texas, a return date in Chile, and a debut appearance in Puerto Rico. More dates, including an East Coast tour, are in the works.

  • THE COMPANY BAND EP To See Special Vinyl Pressing This Fall

Restricted Release proudly presents a special 10-inch vinyl pressing of THE COMPANY BAND's mini-album Sign Here, Here, And Here. Set for release September 15, the pressing features format-exclusive artwork and is limited to 1000 hand-numbered units worldwide.

Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Andrew Alekel (Queens of the Stone Age, Bad Religion), Sign Here, Here, and Here was originally released as a digital-only recording early in 2008 (followed later by its physical digipak partner). It brings together five highly-regarded musicians with nothing but the love of jamming on their minds. Two live performances to date have highlighted their still short sonic union (early fans of the band surely hoping to see more; member schedules permitting).

Founded by Jess Margera (CKY) with James Rota (Fireball Ministry) and Dave Bone in 2006, THE COMPANY BAND originally got together and recorded some instrumental tracks. Jason Diamond was approached to contribute bass tracks while friend Neil Fallon (Clutch) agreed to appear as a guest on one of the songs but quickly changed status to that of a full fledge member. Brad Davis (Fu Manchu) replaced Diamond earlier this year when the band laid down tracks for their full-length debut which is planned for release later this fall.

  • DAMNATION FESTIVAL - LOCK UP to headline Terrorizer stage!

GRINDCORE supergroup LOCK UP will headline this year's Terrorizer Stage in what will be their only show of 2009 and likely the band's last ever live appearance.

The almost mythical extreme metal behemoth - which will feature At The Gates frontman Tomas Lindberg, Anton Resisenegger of Pentagram and Criminal on guitar, Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury and ex-Dimmu Borgir and Testament drummer Nick Barker - will perform live in the UK for the first time in almost ten years.

And Shane Embury revealed the one-off show is set to be the last time they ever take the stage together.

He said: "LOCK UP has not played the UK since the summer of 2000 when we did a small tour with Poland's Decapitated - in fact the band has only ever done around 15 shows since we formed ten years ago.

"We have had so many requests over the years from fans to play again that we thought 'let's get off our arses and do this one last time'.

"So our appearance at this years Damnation Festival will be a total "7 Churches on vinyl or fuck off!" exclusive show.

"This may well be the last show the band plays, ever, so don't miss out on what I hope will be a night to be remembered!"

Nick Barker added: "Damnation will also mark the live debut of new guitarist Anton Resenegger from the Chilean underground death metal legends Pentagram and Anglo/Chilean death/thrash band Criminal.

"Resisenegger replaces the late Jesse Pintado who sadly passed away in August 2006."

Damnation Festival will take place at Leeds University Union, on Saturday, October 24, 2009.

The line-up so far is: Lock Up, Therapy?, Destruction, Electric Wizard, Jesu, Rotting Christ, This Will Destroy You, Akercocke, A Storm of Light, Mistress, Negura Bunget, Minsk, Extreme Noise Terror, Manatees, Gates of Slumber, And So I Watch You From Afar, Charger, Stand-Up Guy and Rinoa with more bands to be announced.

  • ANAAL NATHRAKH: New Record In Stores July 28th!

New ANAAL NATHRAKH long player, In The Constellation Of The Black Widow, hits North American record shelves on July 28th! The record is being released via Candlelight Records.

In The Constellation Of The Black Widow track listing:
    1. "In The Constellation Of The Black Widow"
    2. "I Am The Wrath Of Gods And The Desolation Of The Earth Music"
    3. "More Of Fire Than Blood"
    4. "The Unbearable Filth Of The Soul"
    5. "Terror In The Mind Of God"
    6. "So Be It"
    7. "The Lucifer Effect"
    8. "Oil Upon The Sores Of Lepers"
    9. "Satanarchrist"
    10. "Blood Eagles Carved On The Backs Of Innocents"

Commented ANAAL NATHRAKH vocalist V.I.T.R.I.O.L. on the new material: "Constellation is faster, more insidious, more ominous, more musically dextrous and wilder than ever before. The album features a curve ball guest appearance from Zeitgeist Memento of Mexican extremists REPUBLIKA."

Formed in 1998, ANAAL NATHRAKH have recorded five full-length albums. Based in Birmingham, the band fuses traditional black metal with elements of industrial, grindcore and early-day death metal resulting in a one-of-a-kind soundscape that has earned it high acclaim from media and fans around the globe.

    What press folks are saying:

"In The Constellation Of The Black Widow is another crushing example of why this two-man band accomplishes much more than most fully equipped metal stalwarts. ANAAL NATHRAKH are more like great weavers of music and ideas than just a band in that they bring together some really inventive views on structure and dynamics but then hide them underneath this aural assault that can only be likened to being run over by a 16 wheeler with spikes on its treads, on fire, while acid leaks from the bottom." -- Crave.

"Their sound is a weapon... music of mass destruction. Hell, if these Brits get any heavier the music will cross over into pure white noise, the kind that would tear at the very fabric of reality as we know it." -- The Metal Observer

"ANAAL NATHRAKH's latest is a return to bestial form, full of impossibly fast blast beats, black/death-grind hybrid riffs, and ridiculously tortured vocals. Though not the band’s best, In the Constellation of the Black Widow is a stern reminder of why ANAAL NATHRAKH are often mentioned in the same breath as today’s most notable black metallers." -- Metal Sucks

  • EAGLE TWIN Debut Album Out Via Southern Lord This Week; Interviews Available

Behold the debut album from EAGLE TWIN! Although the band itself is a new entity, its helmsman, Gentry Densley, is no stranger to innovative, heavy music. Densley was the musical visionary and leader of the legendary Jazz, Prog, Rock, Metal, Hardcore group Iceburn from 1991-2001. In order to disseminate his majestic and mountainous riffs in the present day he enlisted massively behemoth skinsman Tyler Smith. The drums are not only a driving force that efficiently steam rolls over you they conjure a repetitious mantra that is eerily infectious. The riffs and music definitely have familiar reference points, including Caspar Brotzmann Massaker, Earth, sunn O))), Melvins, and more, but are crafted in a unique approach that stands miles beyond the others.

EAGLE TWIN's debut full-length The Unkindness of Crows was recorded to tape in Seattle by Randall Dunn (Earth, sunn O))), Kinski, Ascend), and will come beautifully packaged in a digipak with original artwork from Densley, Sri Whipple and others, and designed by Stephen O’Malley. The album is to be officially released this Tuesday, July 21.

EAGLE TWIN played two killer outdoor sets at this year's SXSW Festival, and has recently completed a Midwest tour with sunn O))). Catch them on tour on the West Coast in early August again with sunn O))), and also with new labelmates The Accüsed.

  • BELPHEGOR NEW ALBUM DETAILS REVEALED

Austrian blackened death metal outfit BELPHEGOR has completed work on its eighth full-length studio album, Walpurgis Rites - Hexenwahn, on October 9 in Europe and October 20 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records.

The album was recorded at Andy Classen's (LEGION OF THE DAMNED, DEW-SCENTED, NEAERA, ASPHYX) Stage One Studios in Kassel, Germany.

Walpurgis Rites - Hexenwahn track listing:
    01. Walpurgis Rites
    02. Veneratio Diaboli - I Am Sin
    03. Hail The New Flesh
    04. Reichswehr In Blood
    05. The Crosses Made Of Bone
    06. Der Geistertreiber
    07. Destroyer Hekate
    08. Enthralled Toxic Sabbath
    09. Hexenwahn - Totenkult

A digipack version of the album will include the video for the track "Der Geistertreiber" as well as 'Making of' material.

    Commented frontman Helmuth:
"With these nine compositions/arrangements, we continue to piss on the damn mainstream. It's BELPHEGOR to the highest; the hymns are extremely varied, more intense and epic than ever, [and] there are new elements and structures added. Also, we used some haunting samples here and there, to give the album a cold and ritualistic feel."

He continued, "On Walpurgis Rites - Hexenwahn, you will hear my most fucked up vocals to date; also the lyrical content is offensive and insane. The witch/devil concept is amazing to work with and we used alot of original chants/ incantations from archaic scripts."

BELPHEGOR has tapped Brazilian artist Marcelo Hvc to handle the graphics for the new album.

    Added Serpenth:
The idea is to capture the okkultic orgiastic processions from the Broken Mountain, the Walpurgis night in the images."

  • EPICA: NEW ALBUM UPDATE + HEADLINING NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

Mark Jansen, guitarist & songwriter for Holland’s symphonic metal band EPICA, checks in with a new album update plus a headlining North American 2010 tour announcement:

“It’s been a great time at Gate Studio in Wolfsburg [Germany] recording Design Your Universe. We worked with the same team [producer Sascha Paeth] and we worked for the first time together with our new guitar player Isaac Delahaye [formerly of God Dethroned]. This made a difference and made things very refreshing because we could add some new elements because of him. We have worked harder than ever on the details. We preferred to spend some extra money on great additions which brings our songs to a higher level instead of leaving things like they are. The result is that we worked so hard on this album that we hardly can listen to the album anymore. Now it's time to let it go and release it to humanity. We were already very happy with The Divine Conspiracy but I'm sure this new album tops that one.

“The album title, Design Your Universe, deals with new breakthroughs in quantum physics. It proves that we are all connected to each other on subatomic level. Also, it shows that we can create or at least influence matter with our thoughts… a very interesting fact. Because it changes everything for us, our whole worldview collapses once you accept these facts and integrate them in your lives. So this had to become the new album title.

“We’ll be headlining a North American tour in 2010 featuring Daath and Blackguard. I can't wait for this tour as it's a strong package!”

About the band’s new material, EPICA singer Simone Simons has previously stated, "It is so exciting! I love the new songs and can't wait to play them live."

  • THE NEW BLACK News

Recently signed to AFM, THE NEW BLACK released their self-titled debut in June. Featuring former members of Sinner, Runamok, Abandoned and Paradox, THE NEW BLACK play rock. Real rock; real heavy with all the requisite hooks, leads and riffs galore. Singer Fludid has been compared to “Zakk Wylde, James Hetfield and Phil Anselmo” (Rock Hard) and “sometimes even Mike Patton in a 'sane' state of mind” (Metal Hammer). The screams, the roaring, the harmonies, they’re all there, but most importantly, the guy can actually sing. Add to this shredding guitars, a well-developed sense of melody and a professional work ethic, and you get a solid piece of metallic rock. Fans of Thin Lizzy and Black Label Society, beware. Said Canada’s BW&BK magazine : “[This is] The Real Thing as opposed to the often disposable Next Big Thing. THE NEW BLACK makes it on sheer over-the-top delivery and very obvious love for the simple rock-driven life.” Germany’s Guitar took note of the “assured sense of style and passion,” while Metal Hammer simply stated: “Whoever said that bands can’t form their own sound anymore these days, should listen to this – and then shut up!” In Related News: Various US and European radio stations picked up on THE NEW BLACK, and the band -- unsigned at the time -- was asked to write the title track for an American road movie called Ballad Of Broken Angels. Check out the video of the same name here: http://www.lastfm.de/music/The+New+Black/+videos/24929355

The band is currently working on a clip for "More Than A Man." Explained the band, "it's a little tune about temptation and that funny feeling you get when... well, you know what we mean. And we like what we're seeing so far. Given the subject matter, the video has to have some serious 'hotness' in it. And it will. The band needs to be in there, too, at some point. Even in the same scenes as the 'hotness.' So someone had to do it, and Fludid, er, stood up for the team and did." Check out some of the screen shots here.

The model's name is "Lucky Charm" from Rockstar Sessions
[http://www.myspace.com/rockstarsessions_group - a rock & roll model agency) and according to the band, "she rules."

The band is confirmed for several upcoming festivals in Germany this year including Summer Breeze! If you happen to be traveling overseas, don't miss them!

  • TANKARD "Thirst" Hits Stateside

Beer-soaked German thrash legends TANKARD recently released Thirst stateside to riotous applause. The album was produced again by band friend Andy Classen at his Stage One Studio. A video clip for "Stay Thirsty" appears on the limited edition of the record. Formed in 1982 in the boiler room of the Matthäus Church, Frankfurt/Main, TANKARD first took the stage in 1983. In 1984 they released the first demo and two years later cult record Zombie Attack (Noise). The self-proclaimed "most ugly band in Germany" would move on to a worldwide musical crusade to implement the German Purity Law of 1516. James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich are said to have commented on the band following a bar-hopping mission through Manhattan (and before deciding on an official name): "Hey, you guys sound like a mix of Tank and Discharge." Later, German language magazine Stern, in an article about the subculture of heavy metal wrote, "their music sounds like a train laden with beer tankards.... derailed!“ Whatever the case, and from whomever the quote, there's little doubt that TANKARD are indeed the founders of "Alcoholic Metal" and for that they are proud. Said Decibel magazine in a recent review of Thirst: "These Krauts love beer and fart jokes and zombies and they beat Municipal Waste to he whole 'part thrash' thing by a good 20 years AND they do it well..."

SONATA ARCTICA keyboardist Henrik "Lance" Klingenberg previously described the band's new material as "a bit darker and maybe not so complex as [2007's] Unia. Nevertheless, it's definitely not a back-to-the-roots album with fast power metal. All the trademark SONATA ARCTICA stuff is on there, solos, lots of singing some slower songs."

SONATA ARCTICA will play a handful of headlining dates prior to and at the end of their North American Tour with DRAGONFORCE. To view complete list of tour dates please visit the bands MySpace Page.

  • AMBASSADOR GUN Brutalize The Masses With New Full-Length

AMBASSADOR GUN began in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the summer of 2002. Within the music, there is ingrained a unique ability to master catchy and truly memorable elements. Using rhythmic and aggressive vocal patterns, dissonant down-tuned chords and progressions along with drive saturated low-end. They envelop music expressing comical, political and social disdain; put home lyrically, and fired through a blistering soundtrack of metal, punk, grooves and grind.

Previously known as A SECOND FROM THE SURFACE, the band have shared the stage regionally with national acts including Today Is The Day, Weedeater, Sourvein, Dead To Fall, Battlefields, Red Sparrowes and countless more over recent years, and further live/tour plans are in the works for the coming year.

To be released August 11th on the bands' own imprint Pangea Recordings, the band's 4th full-length When In Hell is a thunderous, angst-ridden, cross-genre stampede of energy, combining elements of Slayer, Nasum, Cattle Decapitation, Mastodon and more.

  • Legendary Guitarist STEVE VAI
    Set To Release Live Concert

    WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

    DVD, Blu-ray and Live CD
ON FAVORED NATIONS SEPTEMBER 29TH, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, CA – Guitar legend Steve Vai will release his concert film and live CD Where The Wild Things Are September 29th, 2009 on Favored Nations Records. The show was recorded and filmed at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, MN before a sold-out audience as part of Vai’s successful Sound Theories world tour.

Visit http://favorednations.com/wtwta-preview to view the concert trailer.

Where The Wild Things Are is Vai’s 21st solo project contributing to his 20,000,000 unit worldwide sales that have accumulated over his 30 year career. Vai chose the State Theatre to film because of its large, lush acoustics and the historical theatre’s gorgeous interior.

Vai is widely known for both his unprecedented guitar playing techniques and the unique design of his signature series Ibanez Jem guitar. But his fans have become inextricably drawn to his melodic depth, and dynamic stage performance. The continued evolution of his craft is made apparent in the astonishing musicianship presented in Where The Wild Things Are.

The 2 hour and 40 minute set contains several new tracks and re-orchestrated pieces culled from his rich catalog. His guitar-wielding extravaganza in “The Murder” is an artistic performance piece that must be seen to be believed.

The addition of virtuoso violinists Alex DePue and Ann Marie Calhoun add a dazzling dimension to Vai’s compositions and stage show, delivering fans the unexpected edge they always expect. Other world-class musicians chosen for Vai’s band are: Bryan Beller (bass), Jeremy Colson (drums), Dave Weiner (guitar and sitar) and Zack Wiesinger (lap steel).

“When I put a band and a show together I try to create an entertainment experience that I would like to have if I was sitting in the audience,” explains Vai. “I like to witness great musicianship but nothing too cerebral or overindulgent, I like to be stimulated by a large dynamic range of emotional intensities and melodic richness, I enjoy when people love their instrument and it shows by their oneness with it, I like to feel as though I'm part of a family with the audience and the band, and I like to walk away feeling uplifted and not beat up by somebody's ego or the things they hate about themselves and the world. And of course I want a cool t-shirt.”

    Performance Track Listing:
    1. Paint Me Your Face
    2. Now We Run
    3. Oooo

Hail."

Born out of a love for pure metal, weaned on a diet of fantasy and mythology, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD have been slaying the infidel for nearly a decade. In that time, they've released three albums and splattered the ground with crimson streaks while on tour with such acclaimed acts as Satyricon, Black Dahlia Murder, Motorhead and Cradle of Filth, just to name a few. These are mighty accomplishments for dedicated warriors from Vancouver, British Columbia. With their last album, Fire Up the Blades, the band surpassed even their own manly exploits, crafting a number of undeniable anthems that crash, rip and roar like a Medieval skirmish.

In 2009, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD raises the chalice another notch leaving their definitive mark on the metal genre.

  • HYPOCRISY: Album Title and Artwork Revealed!

HYPOCRISY, the Swedish extreme metal band led by guitarist/vocalist Peter Tägtgren (also of PAIN), has set "A Taste Of Extreme Divinity" as the title of its new album, due on October 23 in Europe and November 3 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. Peter states, "I'm at the end of the recording and mixing; a few songs left to sing on. The rest are done mixing-wise. It's just been too busy with touring and recording bands, and I didn't wanna burn myself out totally." He adds, "We're happy [with] the result so far; it got everything a HYPO album should have in our own point of view."

Check out the CD cover artwork by cult artist Necrolord (DISSECTION, EMPEROR, AT THE GATES) here.

HYPOCRISY reissued its 2002 album "Catch 22" under the title "Catch 22 V2.0.08" in May 2008. Peter Tägtgren re-recorded the guitar parts, his vocals and remixed and remastered the LP for the new version of the album, which featured bonus material.

The band previously stated about its decision to re-release the CD, "We still think it is a great fucking album but it got slammed and misunderstood because of the vocal style and the drum sound and so on."

HYPOCRISY's latest album, "Virus", came out in September 2005 via Nuclear Blast Records.

  • ECHOES OF ETERNITY ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM & TRACK LISTING

Guitarist / songwriter Brandon S. Patton checks in from Los Angeles about ECHOES OF ETERNITY’s sophomore album:

“Working with Logan Mader on As Shadows Burn was amazing. We had a lot of respect for him from the start, given his experience as a professional guitarist with Machine Head in the ‘90s and the great work he's done as a mixer and producer in recent years, the most recent Gojira album being a prime example. The difference between our debut album and this second album is night and day! On the first album, the mix was really uneven and the vocals had WAY too much effects on them. On As Shadows Burn, we captured a much more natural feel as a band. It doesn't sound so fucking processed and stiff. The guitars and drumming are way more aggressive and the band is smokin', with the whole album being slam-packed with killer riffs. The production and mix is a million times better. And Francine [Boucher] delivers an AMAZING vocal performance that is going to make people wake the fuck up. Even if you've made up your mind that you hate female-fronted metal, you are probably going to dig this record because first and foremost, its a KILLER metal record.

The title of the album actually came from a line in the chorus of the song ‘Veiled Horizon.’ It was short and evoked strong imagery in our mind. We thought that title would lead to a really cool album cover if we worked with the right artist. And it did. [Brazilian artist] Gustavo Sazes (Old Man’s Child, Firewind, God Forbid) really nailed it!

We would love to take this bad boy on the road in 2010. It would be a damned shame if we didn't because we designed this record to fucking kick ass live! We missed a great chance to do a tour at the beginning of next year, so we are hanging tight for the right tour offer so we can get out on the road.”

North American release date for As Shadows Burn is September 22nd. The track listing is as follows:

    01. Ten Of Swords
    02. A Veiled Horizon
    03. Memories Of Blood And Gold
    04. The Scarlet Embrace
    05. Descent Of A Blackened Soul
    06. Twilight Fires
    07. Buried Beneath A Thousand Dreams
    08. Letalis Deus
    09. Funeral In The Sky
