  • LACUNA COIL celebrate their lives with “I Like It”; out digitally September 21st in Europe and Australia!

I’m free to do what I like
    I’m celebrating my life
I’m free to be what I like
    I’m celebrating my life

The lines taken from LACUNA COIL’s upcoming single “I Like It” are setting the tone for the package Italy’s hottest export in rock has to offer as special goody to their fans.

In order to see where people coming from completely different genres could get the song three unique artists were approached to remix “I Like It”:

Interface: One of New York’s longest-lived electronic music acts, Interface combines the sonic edge of industrial, the club energy of trance, and a melodic sensibility for a unique experience.

Das Basslaster: Das Basslaster, synthies/samples/computer and vocals as well as producer for Electro/Pop/Emo/Trash darlings Frittenbude, went for a more Pop mix of the song.

Dan Peace: 20 year old Underground Electro / Big Bass producer and DJ from the North East England, Dan Peace, emerged from the bedroom mid September 2008. He has since been knocking out his own brand of dance music & DJ'ing regularly.

“I Like It” will be out digitally ONLY September 21st in Europe and Australia.

Kerrang! radio, UK, has already added “I Like It” as "single of the week".

  • FINNTROLL sign to Century Media Records!

FINNTROLL, Century Media Records and King Foo Entertainment announce the signing of a worldwide deal to unleash the next three FINNTROLL albums.

Jens Prueter, Head Of A&R at Century Media Europe: "We are proud to sign FINNTROLL worldwide to Century Media Records. We started working with them in 2001 when we licensed "Jaktens Tid" and the following two albums from their previous label Spinefarm for release in Germany, Benelux and North America. Since then we became good friends going through great times like a massive co-headline show at Wacken 2006 (to be seen on the "Ur Jordens Djup" bonus DVD), the experience of a Fisherman's Friend Vodka Cocktail and many other great moments blurred by further alcohol abuse. And we also went through bad times like Teemu "Somnium" Raimorantas funeral, the day we had to bring Tundra to a doctor because his infected feet was already smelling bad and the Earthshaker Roadshock Tour 2007 that was cancelled after a few shows because of disastrous organisation. Apart from that, we just love FINNTROLL for their unique dark blend of traditional Finnish hoedown-music and folky black metal. There are only a few bands in metal that have such a unique style and we can't wait to hear the upcoming album. Kippis!"

FINNTROLL adds: "Yeah, that's right peeps. We're most enthusiastic to announce our signing with Century Media Records. We decided to continue our long co-op with CM, thanks to Jens 'very special' Prueter and Mr. Rosie of King Foo. FINNTROLL felt it's time to work directly with CM this time as we have all the trust with them and they have never let us down in the past. Our new album will be released worldwide through CM in early 2010, and with that said we're gonna do some heavy touring, that’s gonna start in February in Europe and after that we're gonna sail across the ocean to North America. See ya on the road!"

The band is close to leave Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki. Check their very entertaining studio diary here!

  • PHOTOGRAPHER PETER BESTE ANSWERS QUESTIONS ABOUT IMMORTAL PHOTO SHOOT

It takes testicular fortitude to visually capture the frostbitten essence of Norwegian black metal. For many fans of this musical genre, there could be no other man for the job than photographer Peter Beste.

A question-and-answer session with Beste regarding IMMORTAL’s cover shoot for Decibel Magazine’s October 2009 issue (at newsstands on September 7th) follows.

You’ve traveled a lot in support of your book, True Norwegian Black Metal; was the last time you’d worked with Abbath the time you photographed him for it?

“I've photographed Abbath a few times now. Once in 2004 at Edward Grieg's villa in Bergen [Norway], various live occasions, and again in 2007 in the amazing woods near his house outside Bergen. This is where I shot the photo of him pointing in the woods.”

    · Did you shoot the band in the same forest? If yes, what connection do you suspect the band – or Abbath – has to it?

“IMMORTAL have used that forest and its surroundings for most IMMORTAL photo and video shoots throughout their history. Since it's less than a mile from where he lives and grew up, I imagine he has a strong connection to it.”
    · The stone ruin in the shot where Abbath is running with a weapon in hand. Is it of any significance? Did the band choose it?

“This is the same medieval ruin where the cover for IMMORTAL’s first record Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism was shot. These locations were just a 5 minute walk apart. As a photographer, these are both dream locations for me.”

    · Were you present for the application of their war paint or is that something that’s been off-limits to you as a photographer?

“Yes, I witnessed this. They played their new record ALL SHALL FALL to get in the mood for the shoot. This was my first time to hear it, and I was very impressed!”

All Shall Fall, the first studio album by Norway’s IMMORTAL in the past 8 years, will be available in North America on October 6th. Fans are encouraged to drop by the Nuclear Blast web store next week to order an exclusive IMMORTAL pre-order bundle. All Shall Fall will also be available as a limited edition digi-pak and picture disc.

“If there’s one thing that never goes out of style,” writes Decibel journalist J. Bennett, “it’s the prospect of impending apocalypse. All Shall Fall might be the world-beating revenge scenario set to epic black metal.”

States Abbath in his interview: “Humanity is going through big changes. I don’t know if we’ll see the end of the wor[l]d, but it’s definitely the end of what used to be. Prepare for chaos with a grin on your face. But don’t be afraid. Just listen to IMMORTAL.”

  • RUSTY EYE Launches Innovative Website to Support New Album Possessor

FEARnet, the world's premier horror destination on demand, has conducted an exclusive interview with the Hollywood metal trio Rusty Eye to cover the story of their new release “Possessor”; and the state-of-the-art website they designed to support the album, where viewers can follow its members in a three-view video interactive player that runs through each of its 13 tracks. Playing live in both the American and Mexican Metal underground scenes; Rusty Eye has been releasing albums independently via their DIY Epoché Records. The band relocated to Hollywood, CA in the fall of 2004 (Miss Randall as a new addition) and has been permanently rounded out since in 2006, when Virginia-transplant Baron Murtland joined as a permanent guitarist.

“If you’re into horror, giallo, grindhouse cinema or just straight-up heavy music – any of the above are probably a given, if you’re reading this – you owe it to yourself to check these guys out”, stated FEAR net’s Gregory Burkart. Mr. Rust adds on the website, “This whole technology shift has never been about converting songs to MP3s – it’s about converting the CD to the Internet itself. So we developed an interactive multimedia gateway to introduce new listeners to our musical world… that sure beats a CD booklet or a MySpace.”

  • CHROME DIVISION - PART WAYS WITH VOCALIST EDDIE GUZ

The following update has been issued by the band's founder / guitarist Shagrath and the members of CHROME DIVISION:
"Hail all you Rock ‘n’ Rollers out there!

We thought it would be the right time for a little update from Hell to all the Chromers out there. A lot of things are happening in the Chrome Camp these days, and not everything is ok for some...

First and foremost, we've decided to part ways with Eddie Guz, the voice of Chrome since 2005. He's out, due to lack of dedication and commitment to the band.

Since the band is more active than ever, it would only slow down the tempo of achieving their future goals.

This decision needed to be done for the benefit of CHROME DIVISION. Eddie Guz will still remain a friend and a drinking buddy, but sometimes friendship and music don't always blend easily together. But we ensure our fans that there is no need to worry.

In February, Shady Blue (Athera of Susperia) stepped in for Eddie on a gig in Germany, and the result was very pleasing for both the band and the fans.

So we are happy to announce that Shady Blue has now become a full worthy permanent singer in CHROME DIVISION.

The breakup had some consequences in form of the cancellation of two festival jobs in Germany, which is totally unfortunate and really frustrating for the band, but sometimes the shit hits the fan for real.....

Nevertheless, a concert in London is booked for October 2, 2009 and our hometown Oslo will get Chromed on November 20, 2009. So the live situation doesn't look too bad after all.

Anyway, we also want to enlighten and share with our fans that CHROME DIVISION is in a full creative process of completing the material for our third album. Only a few more songs to complete before it’s ready to be recorded. We’re aiming for a release sometime next year.

A new member, new oil in the engine, new boost and a new era.

  • DUSTED ANGEL's California Takeover

Santa Cruz's jam-doom powerhouse DUSTED ANGEL have announced several California shows, including a
record release show with Crom and a killer show with The Accused! If you're in the vicinity of any of these shows, you're advised to make your way out for a neck-snapping night of doom-rock debauchery.

9/12/2009 The Nomad Gallery - Los Angeles, CA w/ Crom, Green and Wood
9/13/2009 R Bar - Los Angeles, CA w/ Destroy Judas
10/18/2009 The Blue - Santa Cruz, CA w/ The Accused, Serpent Crown, Teraton
11/04/2009 Blank Club - San Jose, CA
11/14/2009 Brittania Arms - Cupertino, CA w/ Mudface, Scorched Earth Policy

DUSTED ANGEL's upcoming debut 7" will be released on LA-based Corruption Recordings in early October. Featuring three sludged-out sledgehammer tracks mixed by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, High on Fire, etc.), this is just the beginning; a full-length is already in the works. More info will be announced soon.

"This sledgehammer of a single from an ex-member of Bl’ast succeeds at what every good seven-inch does: gets you salivating for a full-length." - The Montreal Mirror

"...this single absolutely kicks ass and contains some of the best riffs that I've heard in stoner doom since Samothrace’s debut from last year." - Live4Metal.com

"You wouldn't be wrong to say Dusted Angel are old school, at least in their riffing, and despite being a relatively new band, their pedigree can be traced back to Dinsmore’s time in Gargantula and Spaceboy, and his and Torgerson’s founding tenure in SST hardcore unit, Bl’ast." - Stonerrock.com

"Dusted Angel takes traditional doom and adds elements of post hardcore rage into a turbulent mix. Their debut 7" is a far angrier ride than most of Dusted Angel's peers." - NocturnalCult.com

  • SWEDISH' BONES OF FREEDOM RELEASES WORLD DOMINATION 1 !

Swedish Hardrockers BONES OF FREEDOM have just released their full lenght album "World Domination 1" through Spook Records. This CD is the follow up from their critically acclaimed 2008 debut E.P "Butterfly". Both releases have been self financed by the band, recorded and produced at Studio Hardrock Gothenburg and released through Spook Records, Lossiemouth, Scotland.

World Domination is the theme (don’t mention concept) of the album, rather than the bands manifesto and boasts 13 tracks covering subjects that dominate our world today. Themes include Love, Sex, Money, Greed, Reality TV, Global Warming,Myths & Legends, History and Religion.

The four elements of the band blend their varied influences and give them time to distil in order to produce a pure, ballsy, soulful classic rock sound with attitude that at times manages to sound contemporary yet also contains hints of their hippie psychedelic leanings and plays like a soundtrack to their 70’s childhoods. World Domination 1 is available in CD format via mail order online at www.myspace.com/bonesoffreedom & www.spookrecords.co.uk. World Domination 1 is also available to download through iTunes worldwide.

  • Vreid to release Milorg October 27th in North America; Touring US in November

"Milorg might just be the most proudly Norwegian album you will ever hear...Vreid’s style shifts between dramatic blast beats and “black and roll” head-nodding grooves that are cemented together with folk–metal melodies." - Metalsucks.net

On October 27th, 2009, Indie Recordings will be releasing Vreid's Milorg in North America with distribution and marketing duties handled by The End Records. Praised by both fans and critics across Europe, Milorg showcases a unique sound that fuses dark atmospheric sounds with raw, aggressive rock-infused black metal.

Born out of the ashes of the mighty Windir, Vreid is comprised of road-tested veterans that have cut their teeth playing alongside metal giants Enslaved, Unleashed, Marduk, and Pestilence. To accompany the release of Milorg, Vreid are taking their mind-blowing live show to US shores in November as part of Heathenfest with Eluveite, Belphegor, Alestorm, and Kivimetsan Druidi, dates are listed below.

    VREID Bio

In 2004 Vreid arose from the demise of the legendary Windir. Right away Vreid made an impact on the European metal scene, yet it wasn’t until 2007’s I Krig that the band took it to the next level by incorporating elements of Norwegian folk music and 70’s classic rock, while still keeping their Norwegian metal roots intact. Dubbed as “Black & Roll” by the press, the album got rave reviews and massive European tours with Marduk, Unleashed, Enslaved, and Pestilence soon followed.

Even with all of the band’s success, no one was prepared for Vreid’s 2008 album: MILORG. Produced entirely by the band themselves, MILORG is a milestone in Norwegian metal and showcases a sound that’s more mature and atmospheric, while remaining raw and powerful. In October, MILORG will be released in the US by Indie Recordings/The End Records Distribution. A full North American tour dubbed Heathenfest with Eluveitie and Belphegor will immediately follow the release. Tour dates listed below:

  • MANTIC RITUAL PART WAYS WITH VOCALIST/GUITARIST; ANNOUNCE REPLACEMENT FOR UPCOMING TOURS

Pittsburgh Pennsylvania’s MANTIC RITUAL have made the following announcement regarding Dan Wetmore, vocalist & guitarist on the band’s debut album, Executioner, released in March of this year:

"After much consideration, Dan has decided to no longer continue with MANTIC RITUAL. We are greatly appreciative of his tremendous contributions to the band and wish him the best in his future endeavors. For the upcoming tours this fall, our good friend, Dave Watson, will be filling in as singer/guitarist. We've known Dave for quite some time, and besides being a killer musician, he's an outstanding sound engineer as well (he mixed our 2007 self-released demo, Executioner). We have no doubt that Dave will be a perfect fit for us these next few months, and that the band will continue delivering fist-pumping rock 'n roll like it's 1955."

Dan Wetmore shares some words on the situation:

"It has been hard for me to make this decision as I love Adam [Haritan, drummer], Ben [Mottsman, bassist], and Jeff [Potts, guitarist] and the music we've made together. I've always been dedicated to the band and truly enjoyed playing and writing material. Still, I've had the desire to focus on photography for quite some time and I don't see myself spending life on the road. It is my personal choice to leave the band and return to school. Despite conflicting feelings, I know currently, this is the best decision for me. The outcome is very hard to face, as I've enjoyed the past five years and progress we've made. I'm sure some might think I'm crazy or stupid, but I'll eat that. The guys are dedicated and I'm positive they'll do well with Dave taking my place. All the best to them, they're my pals."

A video interview by Hard Times.ca with Dan Wetmore & Adam Haritan can be viewed here.

Temporary vocalist/guitarist Dave Watson will be performing with MANTIC RITUAL on their upcoming tours with Cauldron & Enforcer; 3 Inches Of Blood & Children, and Marduk & Nachtmystium.

Norwegian symphonic black metal band DIMMU BORGIR have issued the following update regarding the progress on their new as-yet-untitled album:

“We’re more than halfway into it at this point and to say we’re excited about this material would be an understatement! There will be an orchestra and a choir which we still have to pick out, but judging from what we have so far and what is brewing, it’s going to sound absolutely massive and heavy, dark and epic! "

  • ARJEN LUCASSEN of AYERON has NEW PROG ROCK PROJECT

GUILT MACHINE Unleashes New Album In The USA

ON THIS PERFECT DAY To Release September 29th on Mascot Records USA

HOLLYWOOD, CA – Arjen Lucassen creates the new prog rock project GUILT MACHINE. The band releases ON THIS PERFECT DAY September 29th on Mascot Records USA. The album will be released in three formats. Regular Edition of CD in jewel case, Special edition of CD/DVD Digipak and a limited edition CD/DVD Digibook.

"In my view this is my best side project so far," explains Lucassen. "It comes completely from the heart, for it was written and recorded during a new inspiring phase in my life after my heavy depression. This, being an entirely new project, there were no expectations whatsoever, which enabled me to just let my inspiration guide me without any (outside) pressure."

As AYREON fans have come to expect from Arjen, the music of GUILT MACHINE ranges from dark and heavy to atmospheric and melancholic. But GUILT MACHINE introduces some new twists as well, particularly when it comes to the vocals. Rather than putting together an ensemble cast of vocalists from the prog, rock and metal scene, Arjen has enlisted the talents of a single alternative rock vocalist, Jasper Steverlinck.

How did Arjen get an alternative rock vocalist to switch genres and sing on a prog rock project? "In the beginning, it was hard to convince Jasper to sing on this album, because he comes from a completely different musical background," Arjen said. "He didn't even know what prog was, but we've made a believer out of him! What I admire about Jasper's voice, besides its beautiful clear timbre, is the emotion and credibility he puts into his performance and his enormous range. Because this project features just one singer I needed someone versatile enough to portray all of the different moods, and Jasper didn't disappoint. And he's a really nice and dedicated guy as well!"

For GUILT MACHINE, Arjen also chose to record with a different drummer, Chris Maitland (ex-PORCUPINE TREE). "Chris was the ideal choice this time, having both the power for the heavy sections and the subtle touch needed in the more atmospheric parts," Arjen said.

Rather than the explicit storyline you would expect in an AYREON release, the songs of GUILT MACHINE revolve around a central theme. Instead of looking outward into a world of fantasy or science fiction, the songs look inward, exploring the destructive psychology of guilt, regret and the darkest form of secret — the secrets we hide from ourselves.

"At first I asked my partner and personal manager Lori to quickly write scratch lyrics for one of the songs so I could record some guide vocals," Arjen said. "I was so impressed by what she produced that I asked her to write the lyrics for all the songs. I was unable myself to create the type of darkly enigmatic, open-ended lyrics I wanted for these songs, my specialty being sci-fi lyrics about sinister aliens. She definitely gave the songs an extra dimension with her lyrics, exorcising the demons we both had faced in the past few years. It's also no secret that I've always been a big fan of her melodic guitar style, so she also plays all the guitar solos on this album."

Despite these differences, GUILT MACHINE still has much in common with AYREON. The songs are mainly long, "epic" tracks that feature dynamic contrasts between softer, dreamy sections and powerful, heavy passages. There are intricate harmonies, complex rhythms, soaring melodies, and an eclectic selection of instruments — all what you'd expect from an AYREON release.

  • BEHEMOTH’s “Evangelion” NO. 1 in Poland three weeks in a row! Video for ‘Ov Fire and the Void’ banned by MTV!

Los Angeles, CA – Metal Blade Records is proud to announce that commanders of blackened death metal, BEHEMOTH, are still dominating charts worldwide with their latest full-length release Evangelion, which was released on August 11. Evangelion has now entered its fourth week in the Polish music charts coming in at the #1 spot three weeks in a row and one week at the #2 spot, just behind Michael Jackson.

Guitarist/vocalist Adam "Nergal" Darski comments; “It’s unheard of. Evangelion is storming the charts in Poland and we’ve been three weeks in row number one selling record in our home country. How insane is that? If someone had told me this few months ago I would have never believed that this conservative country can embrace us so much. Things are changing. And it feels good. I’m grateful and happy that people dig this record so much…again, I want to thank everyone who picked up his copy of Evangelion. It means a lot!”

A massive Behemoth banner was hung up at Empik Megastore, Poland’s version of Borders

Evangelion’s first week worldwide chart numbers:
    Poland: #2
    Finland: #17
    Austria: #45
    Germany: #59
    Switzerland: #88
    Netherlands: #5 (Indie Charts)

    #5 Billboard Hard Music Albums
    #6 Billboard Independent Albums

    Canada:

In other BEHEMOTH news; the video for Ov Fire and the Void continues to create controversy. The band’s new video has recently been banned from MTV meaning metalers will not be able to catch the epic video on Headbangers Ball. • Thrash will never die and VEHEMENT will show it.

The assault is guaranted with this Italian devastating modern Thrash act. They are VEHEMENT and have just signed a deal with My Kingdom Music for the release at the end of October of their debut album "All That's Behind". Modern Thrash Metal with a twist of Death Metal and the right amount of melodic breaks is the best VEHEMENT music description. The band sticks to the eighties' fundamentals and power, but the tracks are also heavily influenced by the new wave of American Heavy Metal. "All That's Behind" is a mixture of Dark atmospheres, decadent sounds and raging growls. Sure one of the most upsetting bands in the Italian Extreme Metal scene. Defining as explosive a such complex mixture of elements is reductive. Thrash will never die and VEHEMENT will hard-hitting remind you it with their sound in the Slayer, Lamb of God, Exodus, Pantera vein.

  • LIQUID GRAVEYARD inks deal with My Kingdom Music for their debut album

For friends of original Metal with an open-minded vision of music, LIQUID GRAVEYARD will be definitely a band to keep an eye on. Former member and frontman in legendary British Death Metal band CANCER, John Walker, is the mind behind this schizophrenic project who signed a deal with My Kingdom Music. Groovy melodies extremely varied in texture and feel, with a huge rhythm section and with a vocalist that shifts between stunning soprano highs and semi-spoken tones, and a full of menace growl, is what LIQUID GRAVEYARD proposes, spanning from Progressive territories to a much darker place, taking up the challenge of dark, Death Metal where bands like Dominion, Opera IX and Atrox left off.

  • ECHOES OF ETERNITY DEBUTS NEW “TWILIGHT FIRES” TRACK

Los Angeles’ female-fronted progressive metallers ECHOES OF ETERNITY have debuted a new track entitled “Twilight Fires” on their official MySpace page. The song comes from their upcoming sophomore album, As Shadows Burn, set for North American release on September 22nd.

States guitarist / songwriter Brandon S. Patton about the track:

“When we wrote this song, we asked ourselves, ‘What would it sound like if Francine [Boucher, vocalist] was singing for Morbid Angel or Dissection?’ This is what we came up with. It has a definite black metal/death metal feel to it. I don't think anyone's ever heard this type of female vocal with blast beats and double bass drumming in a context quite like this. It’s dark, seductive and powerful! The way Francine belts it out on this song blows my fucking mind and every one in the band loves the middle section of the song, where there is a slower ‘gallop-picked’ riff that is mean as fuck.”

The track listing for As Shadows Burn is as follows:

    01. Ten Of Swords
    02. A Veiled Horizon
    03. Memories Of Blood And Gold
    04. The Scarlet Embrace
    05. Descent Of A Blackened Soul
    06. Twilight Fires
    07. Buried Beneath A Thousand Dreams
    08. Letalis Deus
    09. Funeral In The Sky
