| 1. How did the band get started? How did you meet
and how long have you been together? Geoff Thorpe: I formed VR in 1979. After six years we had the same lineup for 9 years. Our new lineup has been together since Oct. '99. 2. How would you describe your music? Geoff Thorpe: Powerful, deep, crunchy, melodic 3. What are your biggest influences? Geoff Thorpe: Life experience, Hollywood, Horror films 4. What influence do you think your bands has in music and metal today? Geoff Thorpe: VR has always been a band that mixed heavy and melody, power and song structure. I feel we have a very good rep for quality music and players. 5. What made you want to be in the band? And if you weren't in the band what would you be doing now? Geoff Thorpe: The action, music and Jimi Hendrix. If I wasn't in a band, I'd be working for another one. 6. How would you feel if a band took their sound from yours and became very well known? Geoff Thorpe: How would you feel if you got socked in the mouth - I guess something like that! 7. What current bands do you like or respect? Geoff Thorpe: Primal Fear, Machine Head, Sevendust, Arch Enemy, and many more. 8. How many demos/albums do you have? Tell me about them!! Geoff Thorpe: That's like picking a favorite child! I'm very proud of every album - they all kick ass!! 10. What is the meaning behind the songs? Geoff Thorpe: It goes from cold and true reality to science fiction, love and war - all elements of life. 11. What are the bands favorite songs? Geoff Thorpe: "Run to the Roundhouse Mabel - he can't corner you there", "Why don't we get drunk and screw" and "That dirty old egg suckin dog" !! (ha ha ha!!) 12. What does the future hold for the band? Geoff Thorpe: The future hold tremendous promise for VR!! New blood means new fire!! Tons of touring and recording, hard work and big rewards! If you could play with any band who would it be and why? Geoff Thorpe: No idea, I've been in VR too long. 14. Who writes the majority of the music? Geoff Thorpe: I do, but it's a band effort. The finished product is always from the whole band!! 15. Who has been the favorite band you've played with and why? Geoff Thorpe: It's a tie between Ted Nugent, UFO, Rainbow, Thin Lizzy, Accept, and Blue Oyster Cult, because they were bands I loved as a kid and only dreamed of ever performing with them. Oh ya, Metallica was pretty cool too. 16. Where did you get the band name from? Geoff Thorpe: One drunk night in '79, it seemed to fit. 17. Describe what the band is like live? Geoff Thorpe: VR "is" a live band!! A lot like a basketball team - taking positions, guarding and attacking. 18. If you are gonna do any kind of video what would be in it? Geoff Thorpe: We've done 4 videos for MTV. We definitely want to put a video on CD Rom. On our new album, I'm not sure what it will be, only that it will be very powerful!! 19. Are there any touring plans made; if so tell me about them? Geoff Thorpe: We're planning a worldwide tour in May 2000 - check our web site, the details will be posted there once they are confirmed. 20. Where do you think the band will be 20 years from now? Geoff Thorpe: In the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame!!! |
