1. First off, congratulations on finally releasing
your debut! What exactly took so long?
Insulter of Jesus Christ: Thanks, we’re kind of lazy,
I know. The last release was the “Divine Darkness” demo
in 1994. But we can’t write music on demand. The inspiration
has to come to us.
2. "Destructo Evangelia" is released nonetheless.
Were the songs on this album, songs you had written for a while now
or are they brand-spanking new (with the exception, of course, for
"Armageddon" and “Bloody Vengeance?
Insulter of Jesus Christ: The songs are mainly new songs.
“ Eternal Black” is from 1994, with a couple of new riffs
baked in the mix. The rest of the songs are written the last couple
of years. Actually, there’s one riff on “When Creation
Dies” that’s from an old song from way back in 1991!
3. Obviously the covers have to be some of your favorite tracks
on this disc. But, of your songs, what are your favorites? Any specific
reasons?
Insulter of Jesus Christ: I really like how the title-track
“Destructo Evangelia” turned out. I also like “When
Creations Die,” I guess it’s because they were the last
songs who got finished before the recording. I also think that “Insulter
of Jesus Christ” captured the essence of the old sounding black
metal.
4. I'm safely assuming Bathory play a big role in the bands'
main influences. What other bands have inspired you in the music world?
Insulter of Jesus Christ: We’re all inspired by the
old South American and Eastern Europe bands. Bands like Sarcofago,
Tormentor, Masters Hammer, Blasphemy, Von, Samael, Sex Thrash,...
5. Sometimes a musician’s instrument becomes part of
their identity. What brands of guitars, bass, and drums do you support?
Insulter of Jesus Christ: We play on what instruments we
have at the moment. It’s the songs and the atmosphere of the
recording that matters.
6. The metal that you guys perform should help satisfy the
hunger of many old school black metal fans. What does the future hold
for Damnation? Another album in the works?
Insulter of Jesus Christ: We’re in no rush, but we
will record a new album in the future! I have already written one
new track. Keep your eyes open...
7. You guys would fit in at a festival perfectly! Are there
are any plans of playing festivals this year? Tours?
Insulter of Jesus Christ: No, we have never played live.
And I don’t think we ever will. Since Daemon lives in Texas
and me and Churchburner live in Stockholm I don’t see it happen.
But we’ll never now...
8. If there was only one kind of beer left in the world and
you got to pick it, what would you select?
Insulter of Jesus Christ: I prefer British ale and stout.
If I had to choose one, I’ll pick Newcastle Brown Ale!
9. In your spare time, do you like to spend it doing anything
special? Do you have any hobbies?
Insulter of Jesus Christ: I have a big interest in racing
and rally cars. I buy them, drive them and sell them...
10. Do you have anything else that you want the metal fans
of the world to know?
Insulter of Jesus Christ: The 1994 demo “Divine Darkness”
and the more recent demo “Insulter of Jesus Christ” is
now re-released on 7” vinyl. Order it from IRON FIST PRODUCTIONS
