It’s not that often that you hear of an
album that is an hour long with less then five tracks. Wolves
In The Throne Room “Diadem Of 12 Stars” is just that, four
songs that are nearly sixty-one minutes in length. There probably aren’t
many quality American black metal /folk metal bands that you can think of,
which kind of makes WITTR unique it that right. Embroidered in their music
is old school black riffage, mixed with acoustic folk guitar and blackened
melodies, and of course blast beats. Many layers and hybrids of sounds.
Black metal vocals, including screams and growls are use for the majority
of the lyrics, and female vocals in the second track. An assortment of bands
come to mind, Agalloch, Dark Funeral, Emperor, In The Woods, Burzum, Primordial,
Mayhem, Ulver, and Empyrium all in one way or another. As I mention earlier
these tracks are long tunes. There aren’t any cheap one or two minute
tracks. In fact the shortest tracks is thirteen minutes and most lengthy
is over twenty minutes long! You can’t help but think of Opeth when
considering the song lengths. Well not much else to say except black metal
fans take a gander.
