Wednesday 13 - Skeletons (DR2 Records/Demolition Records) - Back
Wednesday 13 is better known as the enigmatic lead singer of the Murderdolls, but it’s his solo efforts that I am more interested in! When the Murderdolls went on hiatus, Wednesday 13 went on a solo tour of the United Kingdom in March 2004, called the "Graveyard A Go-Go" tour. For his live performances he was joined by members of Florida horror punk band Death Becomes You, when Wednesday 13 returned to North Carolina in June 2004 he began to put together a more permanent band, with whom he would perform with under the Wednesday 13 name. He brought in a former Frankenstein Drag Queens member Ikky on guitar. The band took heavy influence by the likes of KISS and Alice Cooper, while at the same time not straying far from the band members’ previous horror punk related projects. In September 2004 Ikky was replaced with Matt Montgomery also known as Piggy D. Together the Wednesday 13 band toured Europe in November 2004 on the "Look What The Bats Dragged In" tour, some of dated were supported by English rockers Viking Skull in 2005 after touring, they released their debut album "Transylvania 90210", and made a promotional video for the track "I Walked with a Zombie". The video depicted the band members in footage from the original Night of the Living Dead horror movie. Following the album’s release the group embarked on a tour of the United Kingdom, "Tour from the Crypt". Also in 2005 they played on the main-stage of Download Festival, but perhaps the crowning moment for the group so far was when they opened some shows for their idol, Alice Cooper around Halloween. Wednesday 13 new album ‘Skeletons’ is a solid album, he still has the horror themes going through this album. The thing I like about this album and Wednesday 13 is not just its catchy tunes, it’s like his idol Alice Cooper songs, he has his tongue firmly in his cheek with his lyrics...he’s not taken himself too seriously, not like Marylyn Manson does. So this makes this album fun to listen too, it’s very much like the Murderdolls ‘In The Valley Of The Murderdolls’ album but even more enjoyable. It’s got some nice fist pumping tracks on this album that had me dancing around my house like 'No Rabbit In The Hat', ‘Gimmie Gimmie Bloodshed’ and ‘Scream Baby Scream.’ One of best tracks is the haunting ‘My Demise’ it’s a slower track and lyrically amazing and another killer song is ‘Dead Carolina’. This Album is musically Wednesday’s most mature release. The title track of the album 'Skeletons' is proof of this. Wednesday released this album in the same year Slipknot released their ‘All Hope Is Gone’ album. Wednesday 13’s ‘Skeletons’ is great album and his improving with every album, and I hope he keeps on releasing great albums like this one…’Skeletons’ is an album for fans of Wednesday 13’s past work, the Murderdolls, Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie! This is one of the cooler albums I have heard this year! You will not be disappointed!
