Tripswitch - Until (Independent) - Back
Tripswitch is a five-piece band from Lincolnshire, England. Recently they released an EP named “Until.” As they claim they are a blend of angry metal and melodic dance influenced samples comprised from a mix of Tool, Slikpknot, Iron Maiden, Sepultura, Metallica, Machine Head, Dredg and Pendulum.

To me they sound like metal band with hardcore and industrial influences. Bands that pop into my mind for reference are Faith No More, Mushroomhead, Dope, and any random common hardcore/metal band.

Singing vocals are used about the same amount as the hardcore type screaming. The sung vocals remind me of Mike Patton a bit.

Tripswitch has a selection of appealing catchy riffs and some breakdowns. Some of the more simple parts could use something though, they feel a little empty, but maybe that was intentional?

I don't dig the techno, industrial parts woven into their music, like in track 2 “1 Hit Infliction.” Actually much of track 2 didn't work together that well for me, well besides a couple riffs.

“Withered,” track 3, has a nice groove going on it...I could see this being played on the radio with a bit of cleanup. So they definitely have that radio potential.

The production isn't the best, but with a couple tweaks here and there, it would have been better. Sounds better than most demos. The first 5 tracks are listed, and are the “songs” of the EP, but there are 7 tracks on CD. The last two seem like fluff.

“Until” gives me a bit of mixed feelings. There’s the good and the bad on this. If Tripswitch wants to grab more metalheads attention that they might want to rethink how they use their samples, and concentrate more on writing some catchy riffs to fill any lulls. I wonder what’s next for Tripswitch?
