On “Occult Blood” The Rectvm Satans sound like if Mortician was a black metal band that recorded their music on a handheld cassette recorder on the opposite end of a sewer from where the band was playing. I know this is a demo but the quality of the recording became a distraction, I will explain... The vibe you get from the disc is somewhere in the black, death, grind, and thrash range. With the rough production, it’s hard to hear the music...at times it sounds like static with a drum beat and keys. Speaking of drums, I think a drum machine is used, and I really don’t care for electronic drums in extreme music. The real thing is much more of a true sound. Of the riffs you can hear, they are pretty basic...too much of a bad production to make much of them out. When it comes down to it, the only thing that you can hear ok on the disc is the sound effects: bells, women screams, machinegun fire, etc. At the helm are black metal vocals… I think...they are distorted so much you can’t really tell. They definitely aren’t clean sung. As I’ve said pretty much throughout the review, on these six tracks, the poor production quality becomes a real burden for this disc...was this recorded in a long tunnel or a deep dungeon? I get the feeling that this project isn’t too serious either; especially with the track names...if they are serious about this, then these gentlemen need a talking to. The only people I can see liking this is their family (because they have to) or local fans (because they happened to seem a metal band play a their local bar, but since they were drunk, they didn’t realize how bad they were.) I’m far from impressed…I hope at least these guys are having fun, and maybe with something with a better recording, maybe I’ll get what these guys are trying to produce here.
