Need a shot of adrenaline? Then throw in The
Deviant’s “Ravenous Deathworship,” it’s like a shot
of steroids for the metal mind! Formed after the end of the band 122 Stabwounds,
it appears that they have taken elements from various bands like Slayer,
Immolation, Behemoth, Zyklon, Monstrosity, Dissection, Carcass, and Amon
Amarth. Call it Speed driven, thrashy, brutal death metal with a black metal
spine! There are many fast-paced riffs along with double bass drums like
a smooth running dragster…blast beats and shredding riffs a plenty!
Every track has at least a few excellent riffs. They have Slayer like solos
too, even with a little Morbid Angel technicality. The vocalist is no other
than Dolgar (real name Steffen Simenstad) formally of Gehenna and Forlorn
fame. His vocals are a gasping, raspy, vocal type; perfect for this style
of music. “Ravenous Deathworship” has nine demented tracks thirty-eight
bedeviled minutes. My favorite tunes on the album are “Merciless,”
“Serpent,” “Venom of Mankind,” and “Perfect
State of Death.” The song “Venom of Mankind” has a video
completed for it. So look for it on a local music video channel. One other
note Klokkerhaug mixed this album at Subsonic Society (Enslaved, Susperia,
Dismember). A well-rounded album that should please fans of extreme metal.
