Today there are so many bands around that itís
hard to find one that really stand out. Textures
merge elements on ìDrawing Circlesî that could be assimilated to bands like
the Devin Townsend band, Neurosis, Meshuggah, Strapping Young Lad, and Lamb
of God. So you can see metalcore is involved in their sound, but this isnít
another generic metalcore band, far from it. Textures create unique atmospheres
pushing the bands dynamic further. However, some of these can get to mellow
for me. And some of the melodic metal parts can get a little dull. But,
the songs consist of technical patterns similar to Meshuggah or Byzantine.
Itís heavy rhythmatic action! It seems that they try to do a lot in each
song, much like the Devin Townsend Band. With such contrast throughout the
album a few parts seem harsh when fused together. In other words, melodic
elements switched over abruptly to the omnipotently heavy riffs a couple
times; it was a little awkward. Vocally it is also diverse with a death
growls to screams and also melodic vocals too. ìDrawing Circlesî is more
original than I expected. You could even call it artsy. There are a few
good tracks on the CD, but one was exceptional, ìStream of Consciousness.î
Ten tunes, over forty-eight minutes of self-produced and self-recorded dynamic
metal. Textures might tweak your interest if you are into Devin Townsend.
