Returning with their ninth studio release, we
also see Suidakra
returning to early form. Crogacht features nine heavily folk-inspired death
metal tracks which totals around forty minutes. The main folk instrument
is the bag-pipe which coexists with male and female vocal chants, relentless
double kick drumming, death vox, heavy synthetics and then the usual metal
guitar ingredients making this quite an interesting album. This isn't that
far off of bands like Ensiferum or Amon Amarth, but Suidakra certainly have
their own distinction and level of creativity. One has to love the cover
artwork of Kris Verwimp as well. An artist greatly appreciated the world
over! The biggest surprise for me, and maybe other fans of the band alike,
is the return to heavy folk inspiration. Something that the band seemed
to have been lacking for the last couple of releases. There seems to be
a certain majesty of sorts added to these newer, rather epic writings. Whatever
the opinion, it can't be bad. This is a very nice album that speaks volumes!
