As interesting as the band name and cover
design appear to be, the music sounds quite different in contrast.
I was expecting something like Rob Zombie or Marilyn Manson, yet this
is a sort of modernized progressive rock with half punk-style vocals
and half female prog-style vocals. The band is Scary
Manilow who reside in Texas! Each of the 12 tracks on "Thrill
Ride...." (their 2nd disc) have a different persona, but really
don't jump out and grab all of your attention. There are a few tracks
I found that can pull you inwards such as "I Am" and "Angry
Devil Boy", which have a heavier feel with Scott Wieland or old
Hetfield-ish vocals. Everything on this disc has a punk feel with
a hard rock edge. Essentially.. Scary Manilow's song-writing ability
is pretty decent, but the vocals need a little improvement. They sound
a bit out of harmony with the feel of the music. Maybe more flange
(reverb) would help a little with this kind of music? There is nothing
wrong with the way the album was recorded, especially for an unsigned
band and the music flow is sometimes awkward but good. I admire a
band like this trying to do something different, but they need some
improvement with their vocals....
