Rules
Of Engagement is relatively new to the metal world. This Quintet from
Norway has only been together since February 2006. “Saved By Insanity”
is their new CD promo-single, which is a bit over ten minutes in length
and has two tracks. The band has quite a list of bands they have been inspired
from. They take the melodic sides of Meshuggah, Nevermore, Anathema, Children
of Bodom, Iron Maiden, Linkin Park, Dimmu Borgir, and In Flames. What does
that give you? A heavy, hard rock band, or melodic, metal band. Rules Of
Engagement have an assortment of parts that remind me of Tool, Arch Enemy,
Sentenced, Anathema, Nevermore, and there is this one riff that reminds
of Static-X. A few heavier catchy parts as well. The melodic metal riffs
have much potential. For vocals this band uses a combination of techniques.
This variation of vocals range from a gothic singing vocal, to death growls,
and some power metal singing high notes. The two tracks have a bit of a
different vibe from each other, but both hold their own. It’s hard
to judge a band with only a couple songs but they do have promising parts.
