Rotengeist - Promo 2007 (Independent) - Back
Rotengeist is a 3-piece thrash/death band from Poland. They started in late 2005 and have had the same line-up since their inception. After looking for a vocalist for nearly two years the guitarist decided fill the void.

This promo disc was released in September of 2007. Generally it’s from mid paced to fast paced... the rhythms are a little slower, and some of these leads shred. The majority of the composition is a thrash/death not too unlike Gorefest. Rotengeist remind me a little of old school Metallica, Sodom, Testament, Anthrax, Megadeth, Pantera, and even Slough Feg on the progressive side.

At the helm, the vocals are a rough, grimacing tone, which works fine for this type of music. The best part of the music are the shredding riffs, some are quite good. Solos are ok, kinda slow for the most part, but a few riffs are pretty good too. It’s nice to hear some lead bass parts, something that would sound better polished up a bit. Helping the aggression in the music is the drums. The blast beats worked into the music are almost like a drum machine.

Of the six tracks and twenty-eight minutes, the best track all around is track 4, "Death Came With A Milkmaid." It sounds the best, it’s the best written, has the best solo, and easiest to get into, etc. I’d like to hear more tracks like this in the future.

Nothing really out of the ordinary about this band as it all has been done before. A few cool riffs, but nothing worth writing home about. Rotengeist are rough around the edges and could use some production help. In the end, this promo disc makes me feel that I’m longing for something more…step it up a notch guys!
