Heavy metal seems to be on the rise once
again. The Netherlands is home to the mighty Roadkill.
A very elaborate name, but it works. Much influence comes from the
British Heavy metal scene and shows up a lot throughout their newest
disc, Merlin. The catchiness of tracks like "Merlin" and
"Human Season" set the perfect pace for Marco's vocals to
fall in sync with the guitars, bass and drumming. There is some conceptual
direction with each track as well. Almost as if each track tells a
story, like Bruce Dickinson does. That is one trait I love with bands
like this. Everything kind of falling in place without seeming like
any effort was put into doing so. The rhythms on the disc are pretty
nice too. They remind me of some of Mr. Chuck Schuldiner’s rhythms!
You have to be into bands like Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest
and/or Queensryche to really appreciate the band - Roadkill. A good
beginning, a new beginning for Heavy metal!
