Requiem Laus - The Eternal Plague (666 Production) - Back
Requiem Laus was formed many years ago in 1992. However was originally named Requiem, which was chosen in a way of respect towards their favored composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It was changed to the present Requiem Laus, for legal purposes due to several other bands using Requiem.

After a selection of releases over the years including demos and promos, the band recorded their first full-length album in 2007 entitled “The Eternal Plague”. The album was recorded and mixed at the famed Studio Underground in Sweden. In 2008 “The Eternal Plague” was released on 666 Production.

Their sound is unique and refreshing to me. It seems to be a variation of black, death and doom metal. Many bands come to mind, but nothing really comes close to what Requiem Laus sounds like. However, I hear trait of the bands Neurosis, Mastodon, Napalm Death, Amorphis, and Moonspell.

Throughout the composition for “The Eternal Plague” there are many pace changes that keeps this album interesting. There is anything from a fast metal attack to a somber instrumental. I noticed a certain balance within the CD that had aggressive or speed-driven elements on one side and epic or dark groove driven music on the other. My favorite parts of their music are the catchy riffs, blast beats and a stylized death vocal.

“The Eternal Plague” took many years before it was brought to fruition, hopefully it won’t take another 15 years before another full-length is complete. With songs like the inspiring “Am I Not Mercyful?”, the phenomenal “Silently... Death Leads” and the ominous “Hatred Guilt”, there is sure to be more great music from Requiem Laus.
