Pestilence - Resurrection Macabre (Mascot Records) - Back
It's been 16 long years since "Spheres", so I must admit, I am thrilled to death to hear that one of my favorite death metal bands of all-time are reborn! However, I was a bit skeptical in regards to any rust the band may have accumulated over that span of time. If anyone else was just as skeptical, they can breathe a sigh of relief. Pestilence album #5 is everything and more than I ever would have expected. Resurrection Macabre is a fucking death metal gem!!

The band now consists of Patrick Mameli (vocal/guitar), Tony Choy (bass), Peter Wildoer (drums) and Peter Uterwijk (guitar)!! The album consists of 11 tracks with 3 bonus re-recorded old tracks on their digipak. Netherland-born Pestilence have pretty much re-created the essence from their last two discs, but made far more aggressive measures with a much-improved production. Hell, there are points on this disc that remind me of Morbid Angel and Meshuggah simultaneously. That is to say, of course, with the official Pestilence sound. You could even retrace most of the disc back to the days of their "Consuming Impulse" or "Malleus Maleficarum" albums. Just think better production and more progression.

This is very technical and very fast from every aspect of bass, guitar and drums. The album is also quite catchy. The vocals by Mameli are his most vicious. The drumwork on here is outstanding as well. Tony Choy, of course, is also very recognizable with his Jazz-like playing.

Unlike other bands that have recently reformed, the new Pestilence just completely blew me away!! If the fans aren't coming out of the woodwork for this release, you might as well tuck, tail and run because Pestilence is back!!! Better than ever!!!!
