Nuestros Derechos - Struggling With The Dark (Independent) - Back
Let me first start off and say that “Struggling With The Dark” is quite an improvement over Nuestros Derechos’ demo from 2003. Nuestros Derechos has grown as a band and are working well together. Their thrash, hardcore, punk has created a life of its own, more than other metalcore formations.

In case if you were wondering what the band name means, Nuestros Derechos means “our rights” in Spanish. These rights have brought forth a 3-piece band that has thrashy-old school insanity, Swedish melodies, and punk rawness. The bit of rawness gives them more texture to their music; it’s far from a poor production. Stylized rawness if you will. Bands like Metallica, Slayer, Kreator, Heaven Shall Burn, and In Flames will come across your mind as you listen with a punk tinged tempo.

“Struggling With The Dark” is loud and uncompromising and while I listened I found myself continually increasing the volume. It sounds more awesome the louder you play it on your stereo. A few elements are ultra-aggressive as if the band was trying to play as fast and as loud as possible. There are lots of catchy riffs, and you will find yourself nodding to the music. Yelling vocals add to the extremity of this release. Fastidious drums blast forth from time to time, though a few times sound almost like a muddled click instead of a bass drum. I’m sure if those beats were louder this would grow in intensity and heaviness. A couple of the supper fast riffs sound unorganized and maybe a tad flippant. It wasn’t horrible, but it was enough to cut the flow a bit.

Well lets not dwell on the negative, this album has much of which a fan of loud and heavy music will enjoy. Kick ass riffs, insane beats and lots of intensity! It gave me chills running down my spine!

The renowned Alan Douches mixed “Stuggling With The Dark”at West West Side Music. His previous efforts include Hatebreed, Shadows Fall, Sepultura, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon, etc. I’m sure his expertise helped to make this disc more captivating.

There are 7 tracks almost 22 minutes on “Stuggling With The Dark.” It seems that now would be the time for a label to pick up this up and coming band. I’m sold!
