Mortal Sin - Mayhemic Destruction/Face of Despair (Mega Metal Productions/Vertigo Records/Phonogram Records) - Back
Australia’s Mortal Sin began their career back in 1985. Put together by original member’s Mat Maurer (Vocals) and Wayne Campbell (Drums). Mortal Sin soon became Australia’s premier metal band.

Mortal Sins’ debut album ’Mayhemic Destruction’ (1987) was heralded as the one of the greatest thrash debuts’ to come out at the time. Critic’s compared it too Metallica’s ’Kill em’All’ and thought the band were on the brink of a very promising career. With songs like Lebanon, Mortal Slaughter and the title track, the future did look mighty bright.

The band’s second album ’Face of Despair’ (1989) produced by the legendary Randy Burns, took them to the next stage of their career. As with their debut, ’Face of Despair’ it was chock full of killer songs. ’I am Immortal’, ’Voyage of the Disturbed’, ’The Infantry Corps’, ’Innocent Torture’ and the tongue in cheek ’Robbie Soles’. Touring with big name metal acts such as Metallica, Testament and Faith No More helped them become an impressive metal live act to be reckoned with.

Unfortunately, the band have had several line-up changes and had trouble keeping momentum. In 1998, Mortal Sin finally disbanded without much fanfare.

Since then, up and coming Australian metal acts have tried vainly to re-capture the excitement and buzz the Mortal Sin legacy had left in their wake.

In 2003, again, original members Mat Maurer and Wayne Campbell decided to give it another shot and reform the band. Mortal Sin still had trouble keeping a stable line up, with even Wayne Campbell being replaced on drums by Luke Cook.

Now with only Mat Maurer and Andy Eftichiou (Bass) left from the original ’Mayhemic Destruction’ – ’Face of Despair’ line up, Mortal Sin decided to enter the studios to begin work on a new album titled ’An Absence of Faith’.

’An Absence of Faith’ was released in October 2007, a mere 20 years since their brutal debut. Accompanying this new release, Mortal Sin and their record company RIOT!, have decided to re-issue and remaster ’Mayhemic Destruction’ and ’Face of Despair’ in all its majestic glory. Not only do these classic songs sound more in your face, but these iconic albums come with bonus live tracks, demo recordings and original artwork. If you are a fan of classic thrash (Metallica, Testament, Death Angel, Vio-lence, etc) than you need to own these classic metal gems.
