The brothers Potvin founded Lyzanxia
about ten years ago. In early 2006 listenable records picked up the band
and they continue to develop their heavy groove driven sound on their new
disc “Unsu.” There are a few things that when kneaded together
comprise the sound of Lyzanxia. Thrash, Swedish death, and metalcore all
seem to be a part of the bands basis. Comparing this band to others probably
won’t give the whole idea of the band but you could say they have
traits like Shadows Fall, God Forbid, Godbelow, Chimaira, Meshuggah, and
Strapping Young Lad. The thrash approach they use is excellent, it takes
a hold of the listener. Along with the down-tuned riffs and proficient solos
you now have a respectable record. Vocals are done by the dueling brothers,
one with Devin Townsend / Meshuggah screams, even some deathcore screams,
and the other with clean vocals almost like Linkin’ Park. I know that
might sound weird, but the contrast works for the band with their musical
direction. Nothing is sub par on “Unsu.” Some tracks seem to
have radio potential. The album was produced by Fredrik Nordstrom assisted
by Patrik J. Sten at Fredman Studio in Sweden. Enough said.
