Timo
Kotipelto has been at the helm of the metal scene for a while now. Timo
joined Stratovarius in 1994. His soaring vocals for Stratovarius have become
a staple in symphonic power metal. “Serenity” is a solo album
by this well-known vocalist; actually it’s his third solo release.
The album is energetic and lively much like symphonic power metal of the
band he normally fronts. The melodic metal experts were rounded up to make
this disc. Joining him on this creation are other established musicians
like Children of Bodom keyboardist Janne Wirman, Bassist Lauri Porra from
Warmen and Tunnelvision, and Drummer Mirka Rantanen and guitarist Wainola
from Thunderstone. As you may expect there are ripping solos that are so
sweet they would give a diabetic fits, both with guitars and keys. Ten songs
over forty-five minutes are all appealing in one-way or another. The first
single and music video is the second track “Sleep Well” which
also set for an upcoming Finnish feature film. “Angels Will Cry”
is another great tune, probably my favorite. Also including on “Serenity”
are the tracks “After the Rain,” and “Last Defender,”
the ballads for the disc. Recording was done at two places, Elk Studios
and Sonic Pump Studios, while the mixing was done at Finnvox Studios. Produced
by Kotipelto himself and guitarist Wainola. Mixed by Mikko Karmila (Stratovarius)
and Mastered by Mika Jussila (Nightwish). Nothing to complain about from
that end, and really nothing to complain about, period! What this all boils
down to is that if you like Stratovarius, you will like this. This just
has a few different variations to showcase the vocals a little more. Another
solid performance for Timo to add to his repertoire. Rock-out with your
cock out!
