Kingís X - XV (Inside Out Music) - Back
Long running hard rockers King’s X have returned with their brand new album XV. I have to be honest… I have never been a massive fan of this band but I really loved their last album 'Ogre Tones', so I was really excited to see what the band had in store this time around. The album kicked off with a track titled 'Pray'… a funky/groove-orientated track with a rock based chorus. After listening to the song a few times it still doesn't stand out as one of my favorites and it certainly is not the song I would have opened the album with! As the album played on it seemed very clear to me that there were a few "throw away" tracks from the bands 'Ogre Tones' album which I was really impressed with. 'Blue' is a great rock track which I fell in love with instantly. 'Julie' was a track that I loved from the beginning, it had a real 60's, Beatles feel about it and yet it was fresh. 'Julie' was one of those tracks I found myself playing over and over and singing along with. 'Julie' is a more laid back track that I would class as one of my favorites on the new album! 'I don't know' started out and I instantly thought of 'Honesty' taken from the Ogre Tones' album. 'I don't Know' is another one of my favorite songs, a very rockin’ groove orientated track which I found myself singing along to before the song was finished! One of the slower tracks on 'XV' was 'Repeating Myself' and it is a song which I can picture being used in various television drama's around the world. This is one of the songs on the album that I really enjoyed and could imagine giving the band some more commercial success. To me the best track on the album is none other than 'Alright' the beginning reminded me so much of U2's classic 'I will follow' and as the song went on, the rock kicked in and from start to finish it had me hooked. This is the track on the album that all King’s X and rock fans will enjoy the most in my opinion. 'Free' was another of the songs on 'XV' that could have easily have been recorded for the great 'Ogre Tones' album, 'Free' is one of the only other songs from the fourteen in total that I actually enjoyed from start to finish! For every good track on 'XV' there is one I just don't like! One of the heavier songs on the album is 'Rocket Ship', but like many of the songs this too didn't grab me. The production and mixing is fantastic but it lacked in melody for me! 'I just want to Live', not to be mistaken for Good Charlotte's hit single of the same name is just as bad in my opinion. There was nothing appealing about this song from the lyrics, to the music and horrible backing vocals. If there is one track on the album I would be happy to never hear again it is this one! Overall the album isn't too bad, I have no doubt that fans of King’s X past work will be more than happy with the result from this album, but it just wasn't for me! There were some great tracks on the album and there were plenty of songs I would have never have used. The new King’s X album 'XV' is out now 'Go Tell Somebody' to grab a copy and judge for themselves today!
