Kataklysm’s pissed off and badass sound should be familiar to most death metal fans. Rhythmic, brutal death metal or as the band would say “northern hyperblast.” Anyway you describe their sound, “Prevail” is definitely a good way to get your blood pumping. Lots of catchy/appealing riffs, it’s like they have an endless graveyard where they dig up their chops. Some riffs give you an overwhelming need to headbang to the music. You may find yourself turning into a bobble-head without even knowing it. The drum blasting keeps the energy up too. When the components combine, they act like a well-oiled machine. Among the most appealing parts of their songs are the choruses. It’s easy to get engrossed into them and sing along. Several of the choruses will give you chills that run down your spine. Added to the already concrete Kataklysm lineup on “Prevail” were a couple special additions. Pat O’Brian (Cannibal Corpse) and Dave Linsk (Overkill) made guest appearances. No doubt it was a great to work with those guys. Also making an appearance on the album was Jason Suecof (Capharnaum, Crotchduster). However Jason is probably more well known for his work producing and/or mixing bands like All That Remains, Chimaira, Devildriver, God Forbid, Trivium, etc. He mixed “Prevail” with Kataklysm guitarist J-F Dagenais supervising over everything. Get your horns ready! When listening to “Prevail” you will be saluting the loud, bombastic resonance coming out of your stereo plenty of times. Kataklysm never seems to let down their fans.
