Heaving Earth - Visions Of The Vultures (Nihilistic Holocaust) - Back
Hailing from Prague, Czech Republic, the death metal band Heaving Earth has released a 3-song demo CD-R branded “Visions Of The Vultures.” One may not be able to get a grasp on a new band with just a few songs, but what is easy to understand about Heaving Earth is that they are brutal and guttural death metal.

Before I looked at the bands MySpace site I had the feeling that they had influences from legendary death metal bands. Immolation, Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, Monstrosity, Deicide, Cephalic Carnage all popped into my head while I listened. The first few of which are noted as their influences on their MySpace page.

The music on “Visions Of The Vultures “ is brutally heavy and chaotic, though it appears they are trying to be technical as well. This controlled chaos could use some honing in. The brutal riffs are quality, but the few weak technical notes in the mix get really exemplified by the brutal parts. Not all the chaos is bad, the off the wall solos, kind of reminds me of something Trey Azagtoth would create. And the drums remind me of a similar style to Pete Sandoval. The drummer sounds possessed with all the fast drumbeats and blastbeats. Rounding out the band is the vomited vox on the mic. Not groundbreaking, but guttural and adequate.

Of the three songs and thirteen minutes, nothing really stood out, but all the tunes are decent in my opinion. I love the heavy and brutal music, but I could’t really get into a groove with this one...It’s a decent start for a band that’s not even a couple years old.
