Ground Of Ruin - Cloaked In Doctrine (Independent) - Back
In the dark fall days of November 2003 the group Ground of Ruin was formed in Ireland. This quintet has worked hard at their craft to attain the sound they want to epitomize the band.

“Cloaked In Doctrine” is the bands forth release on their way to recording a full-length disc. The thrash, black and death metal in their songs are mid to fast-paced. At times it can be Gothenburg sounding with a black metal tinge... almost like Dissection.

You can find some good thrashy/black groove parts in their songs. The black metal laden riffs blend nicely with the death and thrash riffs. A good example of this can be heard in the final track. It’s as good as anyone and is a really awesome part.

Vocals vary from a grimacing growl to a more guttural vox. Some vocals remind me of Sodom’s Tom Angelripper, some are more black metal oriented.

The drummer used blast beats a bunch of times, which makes the music aggressive. Everything put forth sounded fine to me.

“Cloaked In Doctrine” started with a calm and acoustic intro and the heat turned up from there. It has a bit of a raw demo sound, but for this style of metal albums it helps to keep the production a little dirty.

This 4-track EP is pretty decent. I’m interested in hearing more from Ground of Ruin in the future.
