I must first reiterate-- doom metal is the
most under-rated genre in metal these days. Most of that reason would
probably be due to the fact that there aren't many bands that do anything-different
aside the slow melodic power and heavy grunting vocals (not that I'm
such the critic-- I love death vocals!). Anyways, Forsaken
is a band minus the notable doom/death vocal style with the exception
of the occasional dramatic effect on a particular chorus or riff.
I really think they should use the death vox moreso IMO. They do,
however, rely on a slower tempo to build songs with-- making them
(I guess) Doom. Whence... the twist they present brings a cunning
crunch of doom-laden music and progressive power style vocals. This
is fairly interesting to listen to, as there is some acoustic stuff,
heavy-funeral doom stuff, melodic stuff, etc etc..... I have to hand
it to these guys, they've come up with a slightly less fashionable
style of metal and have thrown together elements of such bands as
Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus and Black Sabbath. Most of the songs
on "Anima Mundi" run right together without notice making
this a very conceptual doom metal experience. Not bad....
