If you have been a fan of thrash over the
last 20 years, Flotsam
and Jetsam must be well known to you. These guys are thrash legends.
And for those who have been dead to the world, after the tragic death
of Cliff Burton, bassist Jason Newstead who came from Flotsam and
Jetsam replaced him. Back then Flotsam recorded their first disc and
now “Dreams of Death” is there tenth disc I believe, and
this disc goes back to their roots. There are tons of great riffs
that vary from the thrashy to the melodic. But, I love the raw thrashy
sound! You can find acoustic guitar elements used throughout the disc.
A good example of this is the melodic elements on “Look In His
Eyes.” The chorus is awesome! All tracks are at least decent
and most tracks are good thrash models. Travis Smith did the artwork
for the cover of this disc. You probably know some of his other work
from the covers of Nevermore and Iced Earth albums. There are nine
songs plus one hidden for over forty-seven minutes on this album.
“Dreams of Death” is a CD that most metalheads should
pick up. You won’t be disappointed. Another solid effort to
add to Flotsam’s repertoire.
