Fallen
Empire have release their self-produced EP “Skepticism.”
Basically, they are melodic death, with some other influences. The
band writes music along the lines of In Flames, At The Gates, Amon
Amarth and Children Of Bodom. However, these guys are raw on the edges,
like an old school black metal band. Fallen Empire reminds me of a
young Amon Amarth. The production isn’t horrible, but it could
be better. Certain pats have a cheap quality to it. It wouldn’t
hurt to tighten up a little either. The death vocals are ok. However,
the growl gets annoying after a while. I love death metal, but there
is something about his growl. They do have the Swedish idea down to
a point, they need to work on joining parts of songs and increase
the quality riffs, At times the riff selction is weak, though there
are a number of nice respectable Swedish death riffs. One other thing
I noticed is that the guitar solos sound like they are struggling
a little. Maybe simplify them, eliminate them, or replace them with
some more of those great riffs. Four tracks and almost twenty minutes
should give you an idea of what this band is about. Hopefully they
will take the strong parts of their music, use them more often, and
improve on their already catchy sound.
