The 4 tracks over 16 minutes on "Exile" are pretty easy to get into. The music is groove driven, riff driven, and beat driven. While the songs do hit hard, the music can also be very bluesy metal. Influences for Eon include Meshuggah, In Flames, Gojira and Nevermore, but I see much more in the band than the previously mentioned. I see Eon's music as 3 separate metal elements that have been brought together to get maximum appeal for the listener. There are modern heavy riffs like Godsmack, also classic metal riffing that are reminiscent of Ozzy and Priest, and more thrashy riffs like Testament and Pantera. When brought together they got my attention for the most part. At the helm are abrasive yelling vocals. They seem to be the more preferred singing style though there are some clean singing vocals as well. The title track "Exile" is the strongest tune on the disc, and probably the most appealing. It has a great bluesy metal feel, but at the same time it has a boxer's punch to it. There seems to be some variation on the stylings Eon uses, which will probably make their music sound fresh from track to track, but also makes me wonder what direction they will go in for the future. Just have to wait I guessÖ Rating: 80 Reviewed By: Jeffrey D. Adkins |
