Well, it took over ten years of the Deftones
to put this one together. “B-Sides & Rarities” is
an appropriate title for this double disc set, basically because it
explains what’s on the discs. The Deftones selected the tracks
on this collection. Any Deftones fan would drool over this two-disc
set. It’s hard to pick out any certain tracks as “unique”
on this package because just about everything has something special
about it. Just with the trance inducing rhythms and how their music
often has their peaceful to violent jump – that we all have
grown to love – this will leave you hungering for more! On the
CD there are14-songs remastered with over an hour of unreleased material.
Filled with B-sides, covers, unreleased mixes as well as other special
tracks. Covers include Cocteau Twins’ “Wax And Wane,”
Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man,” Helmet’s “Sinatra,”
Sade “No Ordinary Love,” Duran Duran’s “The
Chauffers,” The Smith’s “Please Please Please Let
me Get What I Want,” and The Cure’s “If Tonight
We Could Sleep.” Other highlights on the CD include acoustic
versions of “Change (In The House Of Flies),” “Be
Quiet And Drive (Far Away),” and “Digital Bath.”
As for the DVD, it has stuff fans have never seen before, all their
music videos, and new live videos for “Engine Number 9”
and “Root”. The package design for this CD/DVD combo is
immaculate and has been done with the utmost expertise. It’s
quite a layout. These guys are definitely one of the coolest bands
that are this well known. I was lucky enough to chill with the band
a few years ago after the show on Chi’s birthday in Buffalo.
A great band on stage! Very down to earth off stage!
