Probably one of the brightest up-and-coming bands
in the rock and metal genres respectively throughout the past few years,
I introduce to you... Dark
Suns! Although this release is not their newest, this debut album is
the best start if you want to get into them. Swanlike is a captivating pilgrimage
into the progressive metal realm. More importantly, each member is a leader
in their respected traits. For a debut release, this shows way more compromise
than most bands in their beginning stages. All you need to do is patiently
listen to the opening track, "Swanlike" and whence... no lies.
A proper description for this album would be dark, desolate, embracing,
yet... free. For those of you into bands like My Dying Bride, Opeth, Anathema
and Katatonia...welcome! This is for you! There are plenty of melancholic
& searing guitar tones as there is atmosphere, superb vocals (clean
and grunts), and awesome kit-work! On top of that, the concept behind Dark
Suns' lyrics are based on everyday life in a poetic sense. Not to mention,
outstanding in Niko's approach! The artwork is fairly elegant, but not overdone
like some of those folkloric, ambient bands out there. You should definitely
pick this one up if you're into fine imagery thru music!
