For the past 15 years or so, Crematory
have become a very strong entity in both metal and gothic scenes world-wide.
“Pray,” the band’s tenth studio release, should see that
spectrum broaden. The German quartet’s style of heavy, atmospheric,
diverse and catchy verses are present in every one of their ten new tracks
of which stand at about 48 minutes. No German lyrics this time. Crematory
have delved back into a more melodic direction as on the "Awake"
album. Such is evident with the tracks "When Darkness Falls",
"Sleeping Solution" and "Say Goodbye". The softer tracks
seem to be spaced out nicely from the heavier, more death metal oriented
ones. A couple very aggressive tunes to speak of are "Pray" and
"Burning Bridges". There are some -- I don't want to necessarily
say surprises -- rather awkward tempo / structural directions thrown at
you on this disc. However, this is yet another milestone in Crematory's
young career...as one may expect... as a fan of the band. If you're still
unaware of this band, you need to get your hands on one or more of their
discs! To sum up their style? I would put them somewhere between Gothic/Industrial
and Progressive/Death metal. Favorite track: "Have You Ever".
