Aggressive, powerful and relentless thrash is what Blood Tsunami is all about. Simply put, “Grand Feast For Vultures” will smack you in the face! Both the old school vibe and its present day moniker seem to be represented well on the disc. This horde can combine speedy riffing and fastidious drumming that can create an intensity that is nearly unmatchable. They contrast this with some melodic thrash riffs that will get your metal horns pumping in the air! The blast beat tempo is off the charts. Sounds like a machine… this machine’s name is drummer Bard “Faust” Eithun. You may have heard his previous efforts with Emperor. On the guitars and bass, this disc has quite a selection of dark and fast riffage that Pete, Dor and Bosse present to us with an in your face approach. Catchy, intense, heavy, melodic, brutal, shredding, no holds barred…all describe their punishing assault on the senses. Vocals are more extreme than a typical thrash band, but then again what part of Blood Tsunami isn’t more extreme than a typical trash band? Their raspy vocal variation may make people think of death metal or even black metal. Whatever you want to call it, the intensity is there and it works for me. There is only seven tunes on “Grand Feast For Vultures” but don’t fret, these seven tacks last for over fifty-one minutes! Three songs are more than eight minutes in length, and the last two of which are over ten and twelve minutes in length. Don’t expect to be ripped off by a bunch of short songs; these guys know how to write! Each opus showcases their growing skills as a group and I expect this to continue into the future. Where does that leave us now? In amazement! Rating: 87 Reviewed By: Jeffrey D. Adkins |
