Being that this is the bands first release and it’s a demo, you can’t expect everything to be perfect on it, which it’s not. At times it is kind of generic; nothing to write home about, but not bad either. When they first started to write music they also prepared covers of bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Megadeth. So they do have ability, its just they need to hone it in. These 5 tracks are in the classic metal/ power metal range, with a few thrash driven riffs and a speck of a cheesy attitude. Fist-pumping metal if you will. The riffing is decent. A few leads are quite good, and energetic. The solos are okay. They aren’t spectacular, but at least they are there. Many bands today done even bother with solos. Drums are active and sturdy. Vocals are all right. They aren’t groundbreaking or anything. However when he tries to hit the high notes it can get a little annoying. He may be going out of his vocal range. Track 3 “Live For Metal” seems to be written for live shows. It may have a chance of getting the crowd going because the way it’s built. Possibly the best tune on this demo is the second tune “Riders Of The Grave”. “The Day Of The Raven” is a good place to start for Black Raven. If they fine-tune some of the guitar and vocal elements these guys could start to make some headway. Keep an eye on these guys. Rating: 73 Reviewed By: Jeffrey D. Adkins |
