The Black Dahlia Murder - Ritual (Metal Blade Records) - Back
The Black Dahlia Murder's namesake comes from the 1947 murder in hollywood of Elizabeth Short who was brutally mutilated and slaughtered. Averaging a disc every couple of years the band's murderous metallic mayhem that mauls the masses has metamorphosed into their fifth album "Ritual." The album marks the ten year mark for the band from the detroit Michigan area and it's possibly their finest to date.

As all should know by now that Black Dahlia plays a brand of melodic death metal and metalcore and on "Ritual" it seems that they are more dynamic than ever before. At the same time these songs are very easy keep your head nodding throughout.

Entrancing melodies, aggressive guitars, blistering blast beat pace, ferocious demonic vocals...do I have you enticed yet? You should be! Their dueling riffs play off each other and pull you right into the songs. You feel engulfed the the music.

There are several awesome tunes on this record. Some of my favorites include "A Shrine To Madness," "Moonlight Equilibrium," "On Stirring Seas of Salted Blood," and "Conspiring With The Damned." And those are just the first 4 tracks on the disc!

These 12 tracks and 45 minutes seems to pass by so quickly that when you are done listening to the disc you will play it again and again just because you can't believe it's already over. This is a great example of how tIme flies when you're having fun!

"Ritual" was produced by Mark Lewis and Jason Suecof at Audio Hammer Studios. They have worked with an assortment of metal bands, including Chimaira, DevilDriver, White Chapel, Daath, Death Angel and Trivium. Another proficient job here!

I think it's safe to say that "Ritual" is definitely one of the top albums of 2011. If you haven't heard it yet make sure you go out of your way to feel its wrath.
