Angra - Aurora Consurgens (SPV) - Back
“Aurora Consurgens” is an album about the range of feelings one can experience on the negative side of the continuum. The name “Aurora Consurgens” refers to an ancient document that deals with the same subjects whose name translates as "Points Of Light."

Angra has been known for conceptual albums since their 1993 debut "Angels Cry" which actually featured a song about the classic novel “Wuthering Heights.” "Aurora Consurgens" follows this trend by taking the listener on a journey through grief, pity, depression, apathy, anger, and insecurity. Each song is written in Angra's patented in-your-face style comparable to being struck by lightning.

One thing I really like about this album is the amount of diverse textures they employ. The opening song "Course Of Nature" begins with shakers and various percussion instruments. The song "Salvation: Suicide" is a dynamic and up-tempo song with intense guitar riffs and constant thundering drums. The album is not without its ballads either; "Breaking Ties," and "Abandoned Fate" are two heart-felt ballads about feeling helpless, lost, or just plain looking for death. On a lighter note, the songs "Voice Commanding You," and "Scream Your Heart Out" show Angra's ability to write extremely heavy and melodic songs at a very fast pace.

Some say that this album isn't as good as their 2005 release "Temple Of Shadow" which I'm not as familiar with, however, I can say that from what I've heard, every Angra album is different from the last but I strongly recommend thiss album to fans of their prior work and to those who are interested.

Awesome power metal record. Forget the nay-sayers, this album holds up to the Angra standard of heavy metal!
