Alice Cooper - Along Came A Spider (SPV) - Back
Really, what can we say about Alice Cooper that hasn't already been said? Along came a spider is Alice's 25th studio album following his 2005 hit 'Dirty Diamonds' but unlike 'Dirty Diamonds' this time around Alice is taking us all on strange and twisted journey as we imagine we are listening to a psychotic serial killer plotting to kill, on the run and contemplating their life's work! 'Along Came A Spider' is not a concept album as much as it is a soundtrack to a horror movie that we haven't seen made yet! Pure brilliance! Alice takes us on a ride that we just don't want to get off, once you start listening to the album, you can't help but play it in its entirety. 'Along Came A Spider' is an album for Alice Cooper fans of all eras with similarities to 'Raise Your Fist And Yell', 'From The Inside' and later works such as 'Hey Stoopid' and 'Dirty Diamonds'. One of the coolest tracks on the album was 'Vengeance Is Mine'; the lyrics are well written and revolve around a criminal who is currently locked up and plotting his/her revenge. Musically this track is one you will be playing loud and proud! The crazed serial killer has no doubt been released from his cell by the time you reach 'Catch Me If You Can'. Another great song about a psychotic on a rampage for flesh! Another amazing song you will be singing along too before it ends, musically very cool riffs, I would have loved to have seen how much better the song would have sound if Eric Singer had a little more freedom behind the kit, but overall another one of the songs I loved! One song that I know will go over really well live is 'In Touch With Your Feminine Side'! What an amazing rockin’ track, this has all the ingredients to be one of the best Alice Cooper songs I have listened to in the past ten years! The ballad on the album 'Killed By Love' will no doubt take you back to those early Cooper works, the first time I heard 'Killed By Love' I instantly thought of 'How You Gonna See Me Now' from Coopers classic album 'From The Inside'. This is an amazing song that I just can't get enough of! "You look like you'd fit in the trunk of my car" what a great opening line to a song! 'The One That Got Away' had me from those very first words. I instantly fell in love with the track; musically it's one of the better songs on the album! As the album gets ready to reach the climatic end you find the psychotic killer reflecting on his life in this somewhat creepy 'Salvation'. Before ending with killer track 'I am the Spider'. Metals madman Ozzy Osbourne and guitar extraordinaire Slash both make special guest appearances on Alice's new album and for fans of Alice's 'Welcome To My Nightmare' album, Mr. Cooper makes reference to 'Steven' in the closing spoken outro on the CD. The king of Shock/horror rock has outdone himself with 'Along Came A Spider'; by far one of the better albums Alice has released this side of the millennium!
